DESCRIPTION
The UT-1300 droid freighter is an automated transport manufactured by the venerable Corellian Engineering Corporation. Based on the hull-form of the by now antique YT-1300 light freighter, the UT-1300 essentially replaces the old design's organic crew with an integrated pilot droid brain, allowing the ship to fly itself under most conditions.

The UT-1300 is identical to the YT-1300 in most respects, retaining the drive systems and most of the hull profile, although there have been some noticeable changes. Chiefly, the twin forward mandibles - iconic on most YT-series freighters - have been removed, as have been the weapons systems, with the dorsal sensor array having been moved to take the place of the dorsal laser turret found on the 1300. Internally, all crew and passenger spaces have been removed and repurposed as cargo space, granting the UT-1300 an extra 50 standard tons of capacity. Now unnecessary systems such as emergency escape systems and life support have also been stripped out of the design. The twin port and starboard docking rings have been retained to facilitate cargo loading and unloading, as well as customs inspections in space.

The UT-1300's droid brain is sourced from Industrial Automaton, and is equivalent to the cognition module of an R6-series astromech droid, although it does not share the same part number. As such, UT-1300 pilot brains have roughly the same cognitive capabilities and personality quirks as an R6. Like any droid, they are prone to develop new skills and personalities if not subjected to regular memory wipes, although many shipping companies who operate them will incorporate this into post-voyage maintenance cycles by default, as developing sentience can make the droids unpredictable, a trait not appreciated in the shipping industry.

Light droid freighters such as the UT-1300 fill an important role in the shipping industry, serving regular, predictable routes which are not high-volume enough to warrant one of the giant, high-capacity drone barges which transport bulk goods along many major hyperlanes.

LEGALITY
Legal. Light droid freighters such as the YT-1300 are considered innocuous enough under most jurisdictions, and are not restricted in most systems.

INTENT
To create a standard light droid transport.
