Biography

He was born in Korriban, but not any of the parts you would have heard of. He was born in the stinking, filthy, waste of space part of Korriban. The part where the poor people live for as long as it takes them to starve because they have no money, and what little money they do have they spend on liquor. Crime is out of control in these areas and no honest policemen have dared to go in there for years. Every city has a section like this; a section that the police and local authorities pretend doesn’t exist. They do this because the section has become so hostile, and so full of criminals, that it is unsafe for the police, and there is no chance that they will ever gain control of it again. His mother died when he was very young. This was fine with him because she never did anything but cuss at him and throw empty liquor bottles at him. His parent’s had never even bothered to give him a name. His house was infested with bugs, bed bugs, termites, mosquitos, any and seemingly everything that was repulsive found a safe haven in his house. His father had killed his mother when he was three years old. He had chopped her up with a butcher’s knife while he watched. He then melted the body down in the family cooking stove, and because the police never came into this area, he was never caught. His father got tired of entertaining the young child and started giving him alcohol and drugs at the age of 5 to try to kill him. When he was 6 years old his father finally got tired of the child and was frustrated that he would not die. He began to beat the boy viciously. He punched him in the face until the boy’s entire face was disfigured, about this time he picked up a bat and started in on the boy with renewed fury. He would have killed him had a Jedi knight not seen the act and decided to intervene and take the boy.

This began a new chapter in the boy’s life. For months he could do little other than eat and sleep as he tried to work through the damage his parent’s had done to him physically and psychologically. He could not be trained at all and talking to him about it only made him cry. For the first few weeks the psychologist was the only one who could talk to him without making the boy sob and stop talking. He worked out his fears and concerns with this psychologist, and, eventually, began to function again. He began to train with the Jedi. He was extremely promising in the area of force usage. About the age of twelve he began to relapse into feelings of guilt, anger, and grief over what had happened to him. His trainer noted his quick temper with a great deal of concern. When he was thirteen he decided to take revenge on his dad and the criminal’s in that area. He flew out to his old home and was preparing to kill the entire section of people one by one beginning with his father when his trainer caught up with him.
“You don’t want to do this.”
“I don’t? I don’t even have a name because of them. They have ruined me I will never be normal I will never stop having these feelings. I am consumed by my hatred of him, of this place, of everyone in this place. But now at long last I will have my revenge. Stand back and do not try to stop me!”
With that the boy drew his saber and rushed into his father’s house. His father was in bed asleep at the time when the boy entered. The boy raised his lightsaber and was about to strike when the knight caught up to him. The two of them fought with the boy always trying to get at his father. Finally the knight cut off both of his hand at the elbow to stop him. The boy was angry for a few weeks. He shut himself up in his room and would not speak to anyone he only came out for two meals a day, and then promptly went back into his room. At the end of three weeks he came out of his room and went to see the master. He apologized for his bad behavior and asked what he was supposed to do now.
“What should I do now that I have no arms? I will have to leave the Jedi and turn to another occupation, but I have no skills and no arms.”
“You will not necessarily have to leave the Jedi”
“What can I do without arms; I cannot even hold a light saber anymore.”
“Who said you needed to hold the saber. You can still be a Jedi but you will have to work hard, very hard, and be very good with the force. In time you might even learn to hold and fight with the lightsaber using the force.”
He could possibly have gotten mechanical limbs, but his trainer, knowing that life would be hard for him, did not even offer that to him. First, he reasoned, he had to get stronger at using the force then, maybe, he could get fake limbs.

He agreed to try it. The first ten times he tried he failed miserably and wanted to give up. Fortunately for him, his trainer was tougher than that. Through many hard months he learned to use force push and pull, and, at last, he was able to control his saber and fight with it using the force. Gradually he got to the point where he could fight using this technique without having to stop and rest. He was not as strong as many men when it came to locking sabers but his force ability made him very quick. His trainer finally offered to him that he could get prosthetic limbs, but the boy, realizing that this would probably keep him from being as powerful in the force as he could be, turned them down. His trainer was impressed by his decision.
“You are now a man. I believe it is time we gave you a name. How would Validus Voluntas suit you? It is Latin for strong will.”
The name stuck with him, and from that day forward he became known as Validus Voluntas.

After he had learned to use his lightsaber he continued his studies in the force. While many other knight hopefuls learned knew forms he stuck with Makashi and mastered it. This left him with more time to study the force. He loved force powers and was always learning new ones. Force studies came much easier to someone who depended upon them and used them so much. He spent the next several years studying the force and practicing with his saber. When he was 35 years old he decided, with the encouragement of his trainer, to apply for knighthood. It was the hardest test he ever took, but he still managed to pass. He is now 38 years old and preparing for what he considers to be an inevitable war.

As a knight, his first taste of combat was extremely bittersweet, they won the fight but lost one of his closest friends. Still, battles must be fought with the forces of evil that would seek to destroy the Jedi. Still, most of his time, even as a knight, was spent in training. Validus always believed that it is extremely important to train Padawans and that much can be learned from promising young swordsmen. That is, until the escalation of hostilities between the Jedi and their enemies. He then began to embark on missions and that is what he is currently doing.

The fact that he cannot easily make new friends makes him a little bit self-conscious but he doesn’t let it him bother him too much. He is committed to the Jedi and believes that he owes them his life because they saved his life. His patience is seemingly endless except when he thinks that he needs to be hard on a Padawan. He tries not to think about his childhood although it still bothers him, and he sometimes has flash backs when he sees a child being abused. He no longer feels anger at his parents for what they did to him. He never wants to see the place in Korriban where he grew up again.

He is all business when it comes to training and fighting. He realizes that whether or not a padawan learns his lesson may mean the difference between life and death, and he does his best to make sure that they all learn everything he can teach them. When he is out on a mission he is exacting, and requires perfection from those who work under him. He always says “This is the real world. If you mess up out here people die.” Off work he is extremely nice to everyone including the padawans. He does not like padawans who try to suck up to him. He gives credit to those padawans who do well, and challenges those who do poorly.
