DESCRIPTION
The Vari-class boarding skiff is a model of "combat utility" spacecraft manufactured by Nal Hutta Hyperworks Incorporated and primarily utilized by the Hutt Cartel. Small ships, they are about the size of a light freighter or shuttle, and vaguely resemble sub-surface vehicles used on aquatic planets, with their bulbous hulls and conning tower-style cockpit. These craft are typically used to deliver small boarding parties to other ships, and are usually equipped with extendable docking tubes with hull cutting attachments; they can carry up to 6 passengers and up to a standard ton of cargo.

In their secondary role, Vari-class skiffs are sometimes employed as heavy starfighters, mounting a forward-firing light and medium laser cannon, as well as a turreted light autoblaster which can fire in a 360 degree arc. Their maneuverability is not quite on par with dedicated starfighters, but they can be difficult for light freighters and other vessels to shake, especially when flown by a skilled pilot. Though their weapons are relatively potent, these vessels are only protected by civilian-grade deflector screens.

The Vari is typically flown by a crew of 2, although technically only 1 pilot is required, with the other serving as relief crew, an extra pair of eyes on the sensors and an operator for the ship's navicomputer. Operating the navicomputer in flight can be achieved by a single pilot, but requires juggling two different crew positions and the use of the limited autopilot to fly the ship.Vari-class skiffs are a common sight in Hutt space, and in the service of pirates, mercenaries, slavers and smugglers employed by the Hutt Cartel.

LEGALITY
The Vari-class skiff is not generally seen outside the service of the Hutt Cartel. This association means that it often raises red flags in civilized systems, leading to investigations by authorities, and even by the Hutts themselves. These vessels are also extremely difficult to register for civilian use in most systems, owing to their armaments and other equipment.

ADVANCED TECH
Yes. Vari-Skiffs are Hutt military equipment, and aren't just lying around for anyone to take off with.
