Primula Peyvand sat along side senator Pax from Corulag, someone she knew fairly well, and someone she hadn't met before, a Jedi master by the name of Vollen. They were here to resolve a rather bloody dispute between the inhabitants of the planet and call for a ceasefire on all sides. She was slightly nervous about the proceedings, as both sides seemed rather hostile towards each other, but she did still feel confident they would be able to reach a peaceful resolution to the whole thing.

For one, the Jedi were known to have been well versed as diplomats, and she had seen him give testimony about the events of Alderaan not long ago. Thus she concluded he would be more than helpful in this endeavour. Not to mention senator pax who was a skilled orator in his own right.

Together the three of them sat on the couch on one side of the table, while two separate ones, a bit spaced out for obvious reasons, were on the other. She stood as both parties began to enter the room and crossed over to them before nodding and smiling politely to them all.

Thank you all for coming! We are all very pleased that you have agreed to at least try to settle your differences with words now. Please, we'd be honored if you would join us.

Numenius was both "ok" and "not ok" with the company he was keeping right now.

For one thing - he was ok with Primula Peyvand. She was a decent enough politician, didn't seem to be a warmongering heel and she was a big enough person to allow others to change her mind if their arguments, their logic, was compelling. These were things that he rather enjoyed in a person he was going to be spending any amount of time with professionally.

And then there was the part that he wasn't OK with.

Jedi Master Vollen... Numenius really didn't like the Jedi Order and that much was rather well documented. But he wasn't going to let that get in the way of what they were here to accomplish because he would be damned if he went down as the Senator who messed this whole arrangement up just because he detested the Jedi.

None of his annoyance showed on his face,

"Yes, as the senator of Taanab says, thank you so very much for meeting with us and, far more importantly, with each other." he greeted them with a bright smile, "This is the first step towards a deep and lasting pace I can just tell."

The system of Vaykaaris was at war. It was a very classical role of the Jedi Order to assist in the negotiations that would help it come to a close, keep the peace. It was to that end Vollen had joined a Republic delegation to assist in these talks. While his heart went out to the peoples of those worlds, he meant now also to not only practice his own diplomatic skills, but see that of others in the flesh, use them as examples for his own learning. So recently he'd identified within himself so many failings, failings that could cost the world. He meant to be better, and they only way to do so was to try, learn from others.

And what better example to follow for diplomacy then that of Senators Peyvand and Pax. He knew of Pax's oft hard anti-war stance. Commendable, if the man held to that today it was a good ideal to look to as a Jedi. And in the presence of the two he felt again like student, ready to learn. Though he knew that could not be his only role. He acted today in his capacity as a Master, and so despite his wish to sit back and watch, he represented more than that, and would act as such. Though, he would take note of the proceedings, see what he could pick up,

"A lasting peace that will ensure prosperity for each of you. Thank you again for being with us" He would add with a smile, standing alongside the other senators as the representatives gathered. Even as they entered Vollen would bathe the room in an aura of calm. The saying 'cooler heads prevailed' was often so true, and he would try to assist that. It would not affect their minds at all, but hopefully help put them at ease as they went into these tense discussions. But with it all underway now, it was time for negotiations.

Primula asked them all to please sit then sat down next to the others. She didn't have anything to sat at the moment and let the older more experienced ones talk.

There were thirteen representatives between the two sides and didn't that just speak volumes about the amount of luck they were going to be having here huh? Thankfully, despite being in open combat with each other, the representatives of said moons were rather civil as they sat down on sofas across from each other. They half-glared at each other but that was, honestly, better than Numenius had expected.

"Everyone in this room today..." he began, standing so that everyone would be able to see him, "Is going to be a part of history and do you know why?"

There were some grumblings but otherwise it was silent.

Huh.

Tough crowd.

"You're all going to go down in history as the people brave enough, strong enough, to stand in the face of a war and come here. To give Peace, a chance!" he smiled a little bit, "And that is just... wonderful, it truly is and I hope you'll find that yourselves when we get to it, when peace is discussed."

One of the representatives scowled,

"There'll only be peace when those scum surrender! WE have the right of it Senators and Jedi - WE are in the right and WE will take what we deserve!"

Easy to organise and harder to make succeed, peace talks were tough, painful endeavours that took a lot from all those involved to be ready to make it. build it together. And the litany of failed attempts to prevent war across the galaxy was testament to that. Pax's first move made sense. Their egos had been hurt in this war, they wanted to be right, to know that this hadn't been for nothing. But so often it had been, and even now it seemed that were true, Vollen could read it on the faces of those present. They were ready to be angry, hopefully there was a to calm them all,

"Please, representative, only calm in this situation will do either of you any good" He offered as politely as he could moving his arms out in a gesture to 'bring it down' as it were. The man seemed to take his advice, for now atleast he went back to quiet grumbling, his arms crossed in front of him. The dozen more delegates that had been sent still kept stern looks upon their faces, glancing and glaring between eachother even as they sat on comfortable couches and sipped tea together, they were not willing to go so easily,

"Wax and Wayne have long been in conflict this is true, though do any of you know why the fighting even began?" Vollen asked the room. His tone wasn't judgmental, but curious, hoping to draw out answers that wouldn't result in a fight,

"It's because they tried to seize our refineries!

"Only because they claimed our manufacturing was poor"

"Because they snubbed our representative"

"Because-" they bickered before Vollen cut them off,

"An endless stream of insults. But do any of you know, really know why you started all this? Generations ago? What caused this animosity in the first place? For if not, it is so long in days past that to have your people die for it now... I shouldn't imagine any of you would want that. Or want to try and explain that fact to your populations" it was an appeal to their better natures, and to their popularity as politicians, hopefully they could all find something in it.

And it seems they could, a general nod and noise of assent with the statement seemed to follow, a slight calm over the room,

"Even if we were to try and end it however, there are a great many territories and facilities that lie unclaimed now, how would this be dealt with. Because, Master Jedi, your spirit of generosity may not work so well there" He asked pointedly, but at least the talks progressed. However, this would be a delicate issue he was sure.

Primula sat and watched as both the fellow senator and the Jedi tried their best to convince the two sides of a peace settlement. While the senators proposal hadn't gone over so well the Jedi seemed to be making some good headway. That was until the last of the representatives piped up with a comment that was clearly going to lead to the vast majority of them bickering back and forth doing their best to claim as much land and natural resources as possible for themselves and their respective houses.

Well she hadn't attended law school for both g afterall, so she supposed that it was finally time to interject.

Representives, Ladies and gentlemen of both houses, this is an old conflict. So old that like the master Jedi has said generations have come and gone since it began. If the land and resources are what are really what is the main concern here, let's have a look at the original deeds. And I do mean the original, the ones still on parchment. We can't try resolve this issue with so much grey area, we need to go back to the source
.

With that she nodded towards the representatives of both sides. They all seemed rather eager to try that idea, and all began pulling out papers and documents that would prove their side correct.

As they did so she stood and cleared a few of the cups out of the way off the table as they began to lay them out and attempt to squabble over who owned what. She quickly silenced them with a finger she held up to let them know she needed a minute of silence to look over everything.

Once she was done she looked at one of the representatives from Wax. She smiled at him before handing him the documents from his side back. She then did the same to the other representive and then explained everything to them.

It would appear that the territories to the east and north are in fact property of the Wax house, while the Wayne's do indeed own the vast majority of the facilities there. The land the facilities sit on are in fact in their possession as well so according tongue documents you both have presented this should be a non-issue. As long as the Wayne's cease their land grab, and no ridiculous infractions are raised against the facilities they operate and own, this should at least settle this dispute amongst you.

She said politely but sternly. The vast majority of them seemed to agree as well, nodding and approving, albeit with some murmuring among them again.

Numenius could see that his allies were doing a great job of convincing the representatives and that was good but it was his turn now - he couldn't just sit back and let them make the decisions after all. He was going to need to be a key player here because he refused to be anything less. A combination of ego and confidence he would say, though he was certain that others would have some kind of retort to him had he voiced that out loud.

As far as he could see, Vollen had done a damn good job of getting them to stop bickering and Primula had done a good job at getting to the root cause and working hard on that.

But Numenius knew these types of people - they weren't happy with being set back to where they should have been because they were always looking for something more, always looking to get something for nothing. To push the envelope of the deal. They wanted to walk away from this table immediately better off.

"And what about all the credits we've missed out on while they've had our property?"

Numenius stepped forwards.

"And how much money is that?" he challenged the speaker immediately, "How would you begin to quantify that? You wouldn't be able to. None of us would."

The man grumbled but backed down as Numenius made a suggestion,

"But reparations need to be made to help mend old wounds..." he allowed before making his proposal, "If this peace agreement is agreed? Corulag itself shall match 20% of the yearly incomes of your recently re-acquired properties... for the next five years."

There was some impressed mutterings at that... they were almost ready to sign, he could feel it!

A buzz seemed to fill the room. It seemed with even the gentlest of prodding these representatives were coming to an understanding far faster than he might have expected. It was a beautiful reminder of the effect of diplomacy, when done right. And Vollen was no stranger was to doing it wrong. Helping here, now, it was almost like an act of penetance for the Jedi master, reminding him that he still had good work to do. That, somewhere inside, he could be the Jedi he had meant to, though there had been so much to change him along the way.

But the ease of the talks also reminded him of the clearly senseless losses the peoples of Wax and Wayne had suffered at the hands of those who had set them against each other. If so much could be settled in one afternoon of mediated conversation, then why had it ever managed to make it to such a level in the first place?

He shook the thoughts from his mind, he did not doubt the others felt similarly anyhow. For now, their task was still ongoing. Any agreement had not yet been signed formally, but there seemed an ease now that had been missing at the start of the talks, one that could build a firm, and hopefully lasting peace. Numenius’ offer had been a good one, as was Primula’s legal mind, he looked to build upon both their offers and efforts, hopefully securing their gains,

“And of course we know that no single talk will end all such conflict for your people’s, the land rights discussed and assistance from Corulag are but a beginning for a greate effort, and undoubtedly more conversations to be had. But, the Jedi Order affirms it’s position that, should you wish to host further talks, we are ready to step in as both mediators and security should you feel the need. That is our role” he offered the fathers representatives. Perhaps it could be assurance that such talks would be successful again when there were undoubtedly further disputes,

“You have friends outside yourselves that you can look to, the Jedi Order and the greater Republic both are ready to help” he confirmed with a smile. And the planetary representatives seemed to be assured by this, offering their thanks and confirmation themselves. It felt damn near time to offer a formal agreement, given the mood of the room. And Vollen was proud he could play even a small part of it.

It would help him sleep.

To say things had gone extremely well was an understatement. As far as she was concerned they had most certainly taken full advantage of these people's greed and apparent lack of knowledge in deed restrictions and used it against them very well here. The Jedis offer seemed to go over extremely well also, which always was a plus she guessed.

Excellent, I'm so glad you all can come to an agreement. I have a copy of the peace negotiations you all agreed to being debated before this hearing, if you all could please, go ahead and sign them now and we can get underway with relief efforts.

She said with her usual polite smile, handing over the datapad that the representatives would be signing. Once that was complete they had everything in order and could consider the mission a success.
