DESCRIPTION​

The infamously lethal Verpine Shatter Rifle is an extremely expensive sniper rifle known by rifle aficionados and professional assassins throughout the galaxy. Custom-made by hand for select well-funded clients by expert Verpine gunsmiths, it serves as a rare example of a 'practical' magnetic weapon without a drastically shortened range.

Shaped from vacuum-molded duraplast and precisely tuned tungstoid steel magnetic coils of the highest grade, the rifle uses magnetic fields to fire small slugs at high speeds unattainable by typical slugthrowers and produced a distinctive, audible crack as their metal-alloy projectiles break the speed of sound. While their rounds were relatively small, the speed with which they impacted a target inflicted great kinetic damage. Still quieter than the average heavy blaster, shatter rifles are an assassin's overtuned dream weapon.

This performance does come with downsides. Shatter rifles can only cycle to fire once per second, and doing so back to back risks overheating the coils. They're also notoriously fragile. Dropping the weapon or strong impact has been known to result in it failing to fire, keeping it off of battlefields and relegating it to high-paid wetwork. With proper instructions and practice, the weapon can be disassembled for self-service and concealment stored in a briefcase with its tools.

These legendary rifles can only be attained by clients with both the money and connections to contract Verpine gunsmiths and come with a lifetime guarantee of maintenance and quality. The cheapest examples ever purchased were still as high as 30,000 credits, a price tag that rises exponentially for customizations and tuning. Verpine have great pride in their work, and their work does not come cheap.
