DESCRIPTION​

The Vigil-class frigate is a small warship designed and produced by Kuat Drive Yards for the First Galactic Empire. Widely considered to be among the smallest vessels to embody the design characteristics of KDY's star destroyer line, although it is itself classified as a frigate under the Anaxes War College System. Made as a "flying troubleshooter" for the Imperial Navy, Vigils were typically dispatched to deal with situations which could not be handled by local forces, but which did not require the attention of larger, more powerful ships.

The Vigil class is 255 meters in length, and is armed with a combination of heavy turbolasers and medium laser cannons. This armament generally enables the Vigil to blast anything it is likely to go up against, and with a top speed of 60 MGLT, it can run from most things that outgun it. Aside from its own guns, however, the Vigil is able to carry a full squadron of starfighters in a long ventral hangar which runs nearly the length of the vessel's keel, and which can also house a pair of shuttles.

Vigil-class frigates have long outlasted the Empire which first commissioned them. After the Galactic Civil War, most were retained by the fledgling New Republic Navy, which used them in much the same role the Empire had, albeit carrying RZ-1 A-Wings instead of the customary TIE fighters. Later, many were distributed to various sector and system defense forces, where they have survived into the present day.

LEGALITY​

Restricted. Vigil-class frigates are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities.

Vigil-class frigates are large capital ships with heavy weapons, and such vessels cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. They may be acquired as faction assets, however.
