DESCRIPTION
Towards the end of the Galactic Civil War, Alliance Naval Command noted that the presence of Imperial Super Star Destroyers in a system effectively removed almost all of their strategic options within that system. While it was proven to be possible to defeat said Super Star Destroyers in battle, it was judged to be a task to which none of their current ships were suitable for - it was during this time that engineers from Mon Calamari Shipyards, working within Alliance Naval Command, started brainstorming ideas for the class they called the Star Defender.

After the destruction of the Second Death Star and the death of Palpatine, those same engineers were free to return to Mon Calamari Shipyards openly and began creating such a class of ship to help the New Republic field ships capable of standing up to Super Star Destroyers that may yet have remained in the hands of Imperial splinter faction members. During this time a smaller-scale prototype was created as a proof of concept and the senate official greenlit the project.

During the next several decades, no more than five Viscount-Class Star Defenders were ever actually completed and only three ever saw active service against their fated foes - Alderaan's Last, Corellia's Fire and Dac's Defender - and they performed admirably against them. Though it must be noted that said Super Star Destroyers were run by ragged Imperial remnants who could not fully maintain them. In the hard-fought peace after the Galactic Civil War, all but one of the Viscount-Class Star Defenders were decommissioned and stripped for their materials.

In the current age, the only Viscount-Class Star Defender currently in operation is Dac's Defender, which has been maintained, upgraded and celebrated as the flagship of the Mon Calamari Navy.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Like the Super Star Destroyers of the Sith, the Viscount-Class Star Defenders are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons, making them difficult or impossible for civilians and even small factions to own. Currently this is not an issue as the only working example is owned and operated by the Mon Calamari Navy.

INTENT
To bring a Star Defender from old canon to the site to fill a reasonable gap in early Republic naval might to be used against the remaining Super Star Destroyers in the Galaxy in the immediate aftermath of the Battle of Endor, while also giving other factions a ship within the same tonnage/class to aspire to take/make.

RESTRICTIONS
The Viscount-Class Star Defender is a massive warship and it's usage is heavily restricted in line with tech/rp rules and in numbers. At time of writing there exists only one working example of the Viscount-Class Star Defender, Dac's Defender, which currently serves as the primary defensive flagship for the Mon Calamari navy.
