Republic Senate Vote
Securing the Border, Assessing the Threat
This will be the first of two motions brought to us once again by the lovely @Prudence and will hopefully amp up the Republic's interaction with the other main factions of the galaxy, as well as independent factions. This vote can have some serious implications, and we implore those involved to consider the stances of your various senators, and the likely opinions of your planets, as this vote takes place! The second will be far more important, but we hope this will engage you Senators just as well!

Our current rules:
1. The Chancellor (@Beta12) will convene, or-reconvene, the session of Senate with the opening post. In that post they set the roleplaying scene (i.e., the Senate), alert the Senators to the topic, and invite the sponsor to the floor to begin the discussion.
2. The sponsor, i.e. Senator making the motion (in this case, @Prudence's character, as the Ranking Member of the Jedi hearing), will post second. In their post they will include their motion and their own justification and speech about why the Senate should do what they want.
3. From the time the sponsor posts and for 6 days (148 hours), the members of the Senate (in no particular order) will have the ability to post their opening speeches. This will end when A) all the eligible Senators have posted; or B) when the time expires, whichever comes first. Senators should not debate one another, but simply make clear their own thoughts and beliefs and reasoning. The 6-day limitation shall be posted here so all are clear. OPENING STATEMENTS WILL CLOSE WEDNESDAY, APRIL 13TH, 2016, AT 9:22 PM MDT.
4. After opening speeches have been made, all eligible Senators will have 6 days (148 hours) to make closing speeches and cast their vote. They can now address their peers if they feel it necessary, or they may simply cast their vote with an affirmative vote, a vote in the negative, or an abstention if they feel they should remove themselves from the vote. This period will end when A) all the eligible Senators have posted; or B) when the time expires, whichever comes first.
5. The Chancellor will make a final post announcing the result and adjourning the session.
Eligible Senators: Alderann, Andara, Akrania, Balmorra, Bandomeer, Concord Dawn, Corellia, Coruscant, Dathomir, Empress Teta, Fondor, Humbarine, Kuat, Kashyyyk, Mandalore, Nubia, Obulette, Raithal, Shili, Taris, Thyferra, Trandosha. Senators not on this list may not participate in this Senate vote. With 22 Senators eligible, 12 votes in the affirmative must be cast for the order to pass. A tie will be broken by the Chancellor.
