Rules

This timeline we are introducing several new concepts like plots and levels; our site rules will reflect these changes. Though many rules have remained the same over the years, we may have altered, added, or clarified some of the sections. Be sure to give them a read through, especially before submitting plots or participating in combat or espionage. If you have additional questions or need clarification, using the Discord Help channel is a great place to start where admins, mods and members can help you out. The rules can be found in this link.

What hasn't changed is the site's terms of service. If you're a new member, please be aware of the TOS, as violation of these can result in severe consequences. More information on the SWRP terms of service can be found here.

Main Factions

An ancient, monastic, peace-seeking organization founded long ago on the watery world of Ahch-To, the Jedi Order once flourished in the galaxy as a group of scholars and warriors intent on learning all there was to know about the mysterious cosmic energies of the Force. Jedi Knights are known to observe a strict code of ethics that forbids the formation of material attachments and individual bonds (ie. romantic relationships or marriage). Violating these doctrines can be grounds for being exiled from the Order. A century ago, a schism of doctrine split the Jedi between the servants of light and darkness, beginning a long a bloody conflict, known as the Hundred-Year Darkness, which decimated both sides.

Now, the Jedi teeter on the brink of extinction. Across the galaxy, their former temples and safe-havens have been mostly abandoned as the majority Order's survivors retreated back to the holy moon of Jedha to seek the Force's guidance. However, some Jedi, such as the mysterious Jedi Shadows, refuse to give up the fight against their former brethren, and continue to wage a deadly shadow war with the intent of eradicating the dark side once and for all.

Specific information on the history of the Jedi can be read it this write up. This will also include details on the specific sects within the order as well as ranks. The Jedi leadership will be run by NPCs; if members wish to have characters to achieve faction leadership, they must work for it by completing plots and participating on the site. Please be sure to read it carefully and no harm in reading it a couple times, there definitely is a lot of information.

Once, they were Knights of the Jedi Order, but experimentation with the dark side of the Force separated them from their brothers and began a century-long conflict that decimated both sides. The exiles lack the cohesion of the Jedi Order, serving under various lords and warlords in their search for ultimate power and galactic domination. After one hundred years of fighting, their numbers too have been diminished, but their hatred for the Jedi remains powerful.

Like the Jedi, they too have retreated into the shadowy regions of the galaxy's Outer Rim, searching for worlds to conquer and places strong in the dark side from which to rebuild their numbers. However, some, like the dark assassins among them, continue to strike from the darkness at the surviving Jedi in the hopes of obliterating their brethren and establishing themselves as the dominant force in the galaxy.

A more specific write up on the Exiles and their origin and history can be found in this write up. The write up will also include information on the sects found in the Exiles as well as the ranking system. The Exile leadership will be run by NPCs, in order for a member's PC to achieve rank in the Exile leadership, they must earn it through completing plots and site participating. Be sure to read through it carefully, there is a lot of additional information.

For centuries, the Hutts have been forced to keep their elicit activities out of the sight of the Jedi Order. However, with the recent civil war within the Jedi Order, their cartel has emerged as a major power in the galaxy—holding an influence over vast swaths of the Outer Rim and the galaxy's overall criminal underground. Capitalizing on public distrust of Force-users as a result of devastation from the war, the Hutts have placed bounties on Jedi and exiles alike to rid themselves of the threat of the Jedi, thus allowing their criminal empire to expand.

The Hutt Cartel is ruled primarily by the Hutt crime lords for which it is named; however, criminals of all sort thrive within regions of space dominated by these gangsters. They continue to make use of the lack of Jedi policing in the galaxy to spread their criminal enterprise and maximize their profits.

More specific information on the Hutt Cartel can be found in the write up. In addition to the history, the Hutt Cartel write up will have detailed information about the different sects that exist and the corresponding ranks in relation to them. Just like the Force Sensitive Main Factions, the Hutt Cartel leadership will be run by NPCs. Members within the faction must earn leadership ranks through plot completion and participation on the site. Be sure to read through it carefully and don’t hesitate to ask questions for clarification.

The Kingdom of Alderaan

A flourishing utopia of culture and knowledge, Alderaan has long been the jewel of the Republic. With the war passing the planet by, Alderaan has maintained its position of wealth and influence within the Republic, unspoiled by the conflict of the Hundred Year Darkness. As the Republic rebuilds, the Kingdom of Alderaan finds itself in a prime position to expand its already large influence on the trade alliance.

An opulent jewel that appears perfect to the casual observer, one need only take a deeper look to spot the flaws at its center. A young Queen with many political rivals feeling spurned by her ascendancy to the throne, there are rumors of plots against her personage. A slowly growing drug trade that begins to consume the lower class, has led to harsher laws and increased penalties, driving dissatisfaction with the government among the underprivileged of a highly privileged society.

The Kingdom of Onderon

The Kingdom of Onderon is sometimes considered culturally primitive compared to some of the greater civilizations in the core of the Republic, still retaining a hereditary monarchy that most civilizations look down upon. However it cannot be denied that they exist as one of the more prominent Human civilizations on the edge of the Republic. With a history of recent civil war which kept them distant from the war of the Hundred Year Darkness, focused on internal struggles, Onderon is one of the most militantly prepared Kingdoms in the wider Republic. With the galaxy rebuilding after nearly a century of war, nearby systems eye the planet cautiously.

Considered to be ill-refined by some of the more "civilized" coreward systems, Onderon retains the death penalty, a practice considered barbaric by more progressive systems. It holds strict punishments for crime, keeping it free of the worst of the insidious corruption that has slowly been spreading along the Republic border. Harboring a deep seated distrust for force users that dates back centuries, the war of the Hundred Year Darkness has only confirmed this belief that those using the force cannot be trusted. For this reason Force traditions are outlawed on the planet and those who use the force regarded with great suspicion.

The Republic of Serenno

An Aristocratic Republic existing well outside of Republic space, Serenno managed to remain neutral in the war for most of its duration. Ruled by six Great Houses, Serenno was once a hotbed of political intrigue, competitive trade, and military might. The dominant civilization of the Sector, many systems pledged allegiance to the planet and its ruler, The Grand Count of Serenno.

When the war made its way into the Outer Rim, Serenno sought an alliance with the Jedi. Things did not go as planned however and a brutal three way war broke out between Serenno, the Jedi, and the Exiles, devastating the Sector. Weakened by the war, and mistrustful of the Jedi, Serenno seeks to rebuild to its former glory. However, many of the systems that formerly looked up to the nation now seek to undermine its return to power.

The Republic

The Republic stands as the largest governmental entity spanning the galaxy. Little more than a weaving of trade deals and alliances, it has stood for over four millennia. Starting off as a union between systems in the Core, its influence spread as hyper-routes began to replace the antiquating hypergates, more and more breaking down over the centuries. The Republic reached a recognizable state as it spread into nearby regions, encompassing the Inner Rim and bleeding into the Expansion Region.

However, the near-century-long war scarred much of the Republic South. Shipyards and manufacturing capabilities had been damaged over the years, allowing several Core corporations poaching manufacturing niches, such as Kuat courting formerly Fondor clientele. With the Republic picking up the pieces of the war, resources trickling in to aid the wartorn planets began to dwindle. As poverty grew, so did the Hutts’ ability to entice planets…

NPC factions are not limited to what is listed above, members are welcome to have their characters participate within NPC factions. However, it is important that creating an NPC faction doesn’t make someone faction leader, much like creating a species or planet, anyone can participate. Its best to think of them as a sandbox for everyone to play within and to create stories to involve others. Its also important to keep in mind that NPC factions can have just as much influence and it all depends up to you as members to start those stories!

More information about the NPC factions can be found in these write ups:

Its important if you are interested in creating an independent faction to familiarize yourself with the rules. This Timeline has changed in the fact that everyone starts out with nothing. Everyone must building from the ground up. The success of an independent faction is dependent on its members. More information can be found in the rules which explains more in detail about how to create an independent faction.

In this timeline we will be introducing levels in addition to rank. It is important to remember that level doesn’t equate power, though it does hold a significant factor in a character’s skill and mastery in their chosen field. However, this doesn’t mean that a Master automatically will defeat a Jedi Knight without breaking a sweat and it doesn’t mean that a level four exile apprentice be at the same power level as a Jedi Grandmaster.

As far as the Force is concerned, higher level characters will generally have more stamina, power, and/or finesse in the Force than characters of a lower level than themselves. The scaling of this will be a gradual one, with level 2 characters being only slightly more powerful than a level one character, and so on. This does mean a level 1 character would be fairly outclassed against a level 4 character, just as Asajj Ventress was easily disarmed by Yoda in The Clone Wars. This does not mean, however, that being a higher level than another character will be an automatic win; a well-written Jedi Knight could defeat an Exile Master, and a well-written Jedi Knight could defeat a poorly written Exile Lord. Inversely, the Jedi Grand Master could probably hold their own against two Exile Apprentices.

Ranks
  • Jedi: Knight > Master > Councilor > Grand Master
  • Exile: Apprentice > Master > Warlord > Overlord
  • Hutt: Basadi > Vigo > Lorda > Supreme Mogul
Each rank requires you to reach the associated level (i.e. Level 2, Jedi Master) before achieving that rank. However, just because you reach a level does not mean you necessarily earn the corresponding rank. There can't be multiple Jedi Grand Masters, for example. You must complete necessary plots and your rank will be dterminded by the staff.

In order to move up levels, members earn credits by posting on your character sub-account(s). Every 100 words equals 1 credit. In order to advance to level 2, you must achieve 750 credits (75,000 words). Level 3 will require 1750 credits (175,000 words). Level 4, the highest level, is 3000 credits (300,000 words). These credits are cumulative, so you won't have to start at 0 every time you reach a new level. This is the reason why we are bringing back sub-accounts and making them mandatory, as they will be used to track the credits for each character.

Earning credits will not only be based on word count, however, as there will also be bonuses to earn additional credits. These include: willingness to engage in PvP, minor and major plot completion, and more. Additionally, the staff will be issuing capstone perks for those reaching level four. In the event of character death, a new character made to fill that newly-opened character slot will receive 50% of the total credits earned by the dead character, plus the remaining experience earned from that character's remaining threads. Character death will be the only means of removing a character from play and retaining some of the credits earned. Archived characters cannot have their credits transferred to a new character, and those credits will be lost forever.

It should also be noted that the staff will not tolerate any post fluffing to unreasonably boost word count. Fluffing includes copying and pasting to hide extra unnecessary words within a post, adding or quoting entire IC verbal conversations from previous posts into current posts, taking 30 words to describe a salt shaker, and more. Staff will take the time to review posts, so this will be caught. Members caught doing this will earn a warning, and any action taken afterward will result in infractions and bans.

Level 1: "Knight" level characters, the most common group of people seen within the orders of Force users, are capable of harnessing the Force with effectiveness for combat purposes. Although they must be careful not to wear themselves out or lose their concentration lest they find themselves vulnerable to attack and too weary to keep going. Extended explanations of the expectations of knight-level Force-users can be found here.

Level 2: Considered masters within their respective sect of the Force, such masters have the means to understand and manipulate the Force at a deeper level than knight level characters. Through extensive practice, they have increased their attunement, which allows them to tap into the Force with greater duration. Maintaining powerful Force manifestations for a longer period of time or tapping into the Force more often does not drain such a master as quickly as it would a knight.

Level 3: Among the most powerful Force users in the galaxy, these individuals are most often found on the leading councils of their orders. Their mastery of the Force is matched by few, which can be seen in the way that they fight. Their ability to maintain concentration in even chaotic situations makes them a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. With the ability to produce intricate manifestations of the Force while simultaneously engaging with their opponent using saber or other weapon, they are often capable of engaging more than one opponent at a time and holding their own. Such focus also allows them to execute more powerful maneuvers that a knight would usually be too easily distracted to even consider attempting, though doing so can still pose risk to the councilor.

Level 4: Rarely seen anywhere in the galaxy, these individuals often head the most powerful sects of Force-users in the galaxy. Without a doubt the most knowledgable masters of their orders, there are few who can claim such an understanding of the Force as these. Their attunement in the Force allows them to use the Force in two different ways at once or maintain concentration on a single powerful use of the Force even while protecting themselves from attack. Easily the most dangerous and powerful individuals in the galaxy, these warriors are typically capable of engaging with at least two of their knight counterparts at once. Although wit and cunning can fell them, they are not to be trifled with or taken lightly.

More information about the Force can be found in detailed here.

Level 1: These individuals are commonly seen throughout the galaxy. Soldiers and bounty hunters are regular sights and are capable of holding their own against diverse enemies in a wide range of situations. Overall, these individuals are comparable to the limitations placed on non-Force sensitive combat this TL.

Level 2: Considered experts in their fields with years worth of training and real-world experience under their belts, these individuals are capable of more than their level 1 counterparts. These skills manifest in a variety of ways depending on the individual's area of expertise. For instance, a bounty hunter at this level may find that years of experience and training has made him more mobile in his armor and he no longer suffers as extreme of limitations to his movement when he is on the hunt and discovers that his reflexes are more honed than they were when he was first starting out.

Level 3: Those who have survived this long in their profession are some of the best in the business. Often on the verge of becoming truly famous - or infamous - those that have come this far are capable of holding their own against nearly anyone else in the galaxy in a single fight. They have practiced for years to push the limits of the body. They are capable of holding their own against even masters of the Force and are truly a force to be reckoned with.

Level 4: Individuals who have made it this far represent the peak of physical abilities. Capable of pushing body and mind to the maximum limits, their intellect and physical conditioning make them the deadliest the galaxy has to offer. Sometimes the actions they take seem to defy the limits of human ability. Having become the most powerful and dangerous men and women in the galaxy, they are also capable of picking a single "capstone perk." This is a special ability to be worked out with the staff upon reaching level 4. An example of a capstone perk would be the ability of a level 4 bounty hunter to enter an "ask" thread if his or her target (listed on the bounty board) is present, though limitations to metagaming may still be in place. Capstone perks must be explicitly approved by the staff before use.

A plot is a story comprised of a series of threads that gets a character and its supporters to a specific goal. The goal can range from something small (i.e, buying a warehouse) to something large (i.e., overthrowing the existing Exile Leader). The thing that sets plots apart from regular threads is that at the completion of the plots, staff will review the threads and reward credits as warranted. Rewards will always vary on a case-by-case basis, so no two stories will have the same outcomes.

The concept of the plot is being introduced to encourage members to submit stories for their characters that have goals and would like to grow as individuals. Complex plots, where a character wants to take over a faction or have extensive fame, will require other PCs to be involved in the plots so the ascension is realistic. The character will not rise without the aid of actual support.

While members can RP just fine without ever submitting a plot, rising through the ranks in the main factions will have plot requirements to show that the member can lead stories and truly make an impact in the faction with supporters who’ll back them. Members are not required to do plots, but its a great way to have a bigger impact on the story. You may gain higher levels with never submitting plots, but to have a greater impact, to interact with high ranking NPCs and to be recognized, plots are important in this aspect.

Plots differ from personal stories, as mentioned above as plots are used to complete goals that may impact the story, personal stories are great for fleshing out your characters. They offer opportunity to develeop in depth relationships and evolve your character on a more intimate level. Personal stories will never be discouraged.

top

Before starting a plot it will need to be submitted for approval. A template will be required as provided here and be submitted to the Espionage, Character, or Faction Plot Boards. Plots may not begin until approval is given. Starting a plot before approval can result in disciplinary action.

Once a plot is completed, it will need to be submitted for staff review. Please be sure to include links to all threads in the plot, a summary of the events of the plot, and a list of all characters involved (supporters and opposition), with links. Threads will need to be completed and clearly marked it is completed before plots can be submitted for review.

Plots that don't achieve the starting goals will still receive credits for the members who participated. Bonus credits will be given based on the number and type of risks taken by characters.

Please note that Admins and Mods will not be giving members plot ideas, we will give feedback, but its up to the member base to come up with stories to drive the plot forward. This may require you to work with new members and trying different ideas.

A main faction plot is a main faction's current story, to be told by the players. These are not drafted step by step by administration beyond the introduction of overarching goals, but rather a plotline that the players will chart and progress. Main Faction plots will be presented as an overall goal or mission statement that the faction has at the time, the completion of which will progress the factions storyline. After a Main Faction plot goal is completed, the story will progress and a new goal will be presented.

Contributing to Main Faction plots is an easy task that anybody who has a character in the faction can do. Grab a fellow faction member and do a thread, or plan and submit a plot that contributes to the overall goal of the main faction. Once a main faction plot thread is completed, it can be submitted for review. Threads may be given more weight in the evaluation process depending on how risky they are, with higher risk threads such as a single OPEN or PvP thread being able to accomplish more than a single ASK. A player could even indirectly contribute by participating in main faction plot threads as an outsider to the faction, or NPCing for the Main Faction plot.

Members are able to influence the Main Factions through participating in the threads in relation to the plot. The outcome of the story is dependent on character actions and can impact plots in the future. Larger plots will have more influence on the story, but its not to say individual threads can't have an influence. Members who participate and influence the determination of its outcome, their actions will be taken into account in following faction plots.

It should be noted that Main Faction plots are not immune to failure. If the faction is inactive or the overall story becomes disorganized in the pursuit of the goal, plot failure is possible and can serve as a disadvantage for the Faction in future plots.

Battles will still be present in the new timeline, but will develop more organically such as if factions have overlapping plots or if players develop a plot to trigger conflict between factions.

top

Members will be allowed four (4) characters this timeline and sub-accounts will be reintroduced. The purpose of sub-accounts will be for posting ICly only in the story in order to keep track of credits. Sub-accounts will not be used to post OoC comments on the site. Members can follow this link in order to learn how to create their sub account for their character. We will have character Mods to assist with approving characters before you begin RPing. Please be open to feedback of your character, everyone is encouraged to become better writers and the only way we do that is to accept constructive criticism from others.

As mentioned earlier, there will be several NPCs involved in the NPC factions and the Main Factions. Special circumstances will be required to interact with such NPCs, such as involvement with Main Faction Plots or if a thread takes a turn that requires intervention. NPCs will still be required for opposition in plots such as for PvP or espionage.

As promised, the Tech team has been hard at work creating a whole bunch of new content. This would not have been possible without tremendous help from everyone involved, so give them a big hand. The rules have been heavily updated with a lot of technology defined, notably ship systems and weaponry, as well as armor, hand-held weapons, and explosives. Give them a thorough read as it is an extensive addition. We've also adjusted the generic tech guidelines to better define what generic tech is, and the rules of posting to that board. When submitting tech, we've created a new set of official templates with a brand new section: Legality. These templates must be used for submissions, as always. We also have a handy list of pre-approved functions to make armor creation easier. Take note that restricted functions are not openly available, your PC will have had to earn them. More on that in the rules. We also have, thanks to Loco, a very handy astrogation and hyperspace guide. Violating the laws of hyperspace travel may carry consequences this timeline! And last but certainly not least, we've created a ton of pre-made stock tech. Head on over to the Tech Boards to take a peak and get an idea of what tech is supposed to look like this timeline!
