Yes, yes, I know. Almost everyone hates the prequels. Almost. And a lot of people like to bash the prequels at every chance they get. While George retrospectively did more wrong than right, we should take the time to point out what he did in fact do right. Instead of using this thread to bash the prequels, (I request this thread is bash-free, please. However, that does not mean I don't want you to disagree with someone when you think something was bad and they thought it was good, I just mean don't go around mindlessly insulting every part of the prequels) we should use it to instead commemorate the prequels on what they did right.

I'm just going to write about the first thing that popped into my head, because I don't feel like writing a whole lot right now.

In my opinion, a scene that stuck with me to the end was the scene in ROTS. I think it was actually called Padme's Ruminations, titled after the soundtrack piece which was playing out during the scene. It wasn't very long, I'd say 20-25 seconds, but man did it leave a lasting impression on me. It just laid the inevitable demise of the Republic out there right in front of you, and Natalie Portman did a beautiful job acting out the scene, at least from my point of view. I think Hayden Christensen did a decent job as well, and you could clearly see both characters were under a lot of emotional stress.

What do you guys think? Agree/Disagree with me? What are some of the things you liked about the prequels, if anything?

Mm, yes.

In more serious, written response, I really liked the glimpses into the Jedi Order, the lightsaber fights and I'd be lying if I said I didn't cry at the end of Anakin and Obi-Wan's fight. :<

What scene is this?

I really liked the idea of the Clone Wars and I really liked how they portrayed Anakin as a kid

Just a note: These are by no means my favorite scenes or parts of the prequel movies that would take a bit more thought than I honestly put into this. These are just parts I liked off the top of my head.

For Episode One- I like the scene where Qui-Gon's cutting through the door on the Trade Federation, and Obi-Wan's taking droids down.

Episode Two- Obi-Wan on Kamino was pretty cool, and I thought it was one of the better parts of the movie outside of the battle/fight scenes.

Episode Three- I think I've said this elsewhere, but the opening before Anakin or Obi-Wan start talking, while their fighters are going along the length of the Star Destroyer and the drum sounds in the background. I also liked the parts on Kashyyk, Wookiees are always cool.

To be honest it's the tiny pieces of lore that were added that I love, one such being the different techniques and forms developed for lightsabers and sabers in general. I might be overstepping things to guess that many people don't care about that sort of stuff, since it has little impact on the rp and is such a negligible thing, but I found the expansion of not only lightsaber fighting style but the nature of lightsabers themselves to be extremely interesting. I like there to be a certain extent of realistic logic when it comes to aspects of lore, so having a lightsaber have no variants in application or style, or even in weapon variety, could make me scratch my head at times. Introducing the lightsaber forms and an entirely different type of lightsaber all together was very cool, and I was glad that they decided to go this route as it adds another layer of characterization and insight into character. In my opinion of course.

I`m probably one of the few that likes both the prequel and the original trilogy somewhat equally as, for me, they`ve both got something better the other did not.
For instance, I like the superior lightsaber duels in the prequel trilogy ( battle of the heroes, for instance ) as compared to the original trilogy.
However, the original trilogy seems ... more serious and mature to me than the prequel trilogy ( it shows the Empire as being quite fascist and it`s troops ready to kill civilians without mercy ) as opposed to some of the more, eh, "childish" elements in the prequel trilogy ( most specifically the battle droids, yelling "Ow" every time they`re damaged. No wonder the Clone Troopers mowed them down like they were nothing ).
And lastly, the visuals which are obviously superiour in the prequel trilogy as opposed to the sequel trilogy ( I`m a sucker for eye candy. Sue me ) .

I really like Qui-Gon Jinn.

Obi-Wan was also good in the series.

Battle Droids were cool up until they all started to inhale helium.

Jango Fett I liked and thought was cool, I just like the Fetts though.

The final battles in Episode I and III were entertaining.

Also the music is great.

Even though I know I and others talked about it on how it could have been so much better, and I agree, but I think it was still cool to see Yoda do a little fighting.

There's already a thread for this, in this very section that was started by Mulluns.

The things I liked:

Ewan McGreggor as Obi Wan
I liked the character of Captain Typho in Episode II
I liked Christopher Lee as Dooku.
I like a lot of parallels between scenes from the prequels to the original trilogy. Examples include the Battle of Naboo in some ways feels similar to the Battle of Endor. The ceremony at the end of Episode I feel similar to Episode IV. The ending of episode II feel similar to episode V.
I like the music (Duel of the Fates)
I like Samuel L. Jackson as Mace Windu (Mostly in episode II)
I don't mind the stories overall. I think it's okay. The difference for me when it comes to original trilogy vs the prequels to me is that the prequels are good movies. The original trilogy other hand are great films.

Because Anakin killing children is so aimed for a childish audience. :P

See. I love the lightsaber duel between Obi-Wan and Qui Gon vs Darth Maul. The duel between Obi-Wan and Anakin vs Dooku looked kind of ugly compared to the previous fight but it's supposed to because you're meant to see how Obi-Wan and Qui Gon were a better team than Obi-Wan and Anakin. The fight between Yoda and Dooku was kind of cool but the fight between Yoda and Palpatine was better. I like the Obi-Wan and Anakin duel but at times it just feels a bit over-done. Now with the original trilogy, there is a sense of old school dueling. Especially in episode IV. I love the lightsaber duel in Empire as you can see Vader is just toying with Luke for most of it and then he gets serious as it goes on. The duel in Return is different mostly because Luke doesn't really want to fight. They all have their own flavor but I don't think the fights in the prequels are better than the ones in the original trilogy. Just different.

I like the prequels more than the original trilogy. Why? Well, being a kid when the prequels were new and obsessed over them. Nostalgia factor.

I wouldn't say more than the trilogy but this is exactly why I still like the prequels despite the issue that I now know they have.

I liked the film score more than anything. I didn't like Attack of the Clones. I liked Revenge. Phantom was okay, cause Darth Maul.

I like Ewan McGregor, and I have a lot of respect for the fact that he's the one and only actor to bring a nuanced performance to those films. Some of the score was good (though, probably due to the quality of the films, it started to become uninspired by Episode III). The films had a few interesting ideas. On the whole, though? No, there's not much I like about the prequels.

Also, my hope is that those who enjoy the prequels out of nostalgia can at least admit that the movies aren't very good. There's a difference between enjoyability and quality, and that's something that's important to talk about in fandom.

I agree with both your comments. When I was younger I didn't notice poor writing and things that no don't seem too funny now, did. An example would be C-3PO's head getting swapped. But honestly overall even now I think ep 1 is decent. Granted their are issues with it.
