Actually, on a similar note Chris Pine would have done a good job, but then he'd never have been in Star Trek.

Yes, there would have been a great war between Trekkies and Star Wars Fans, Klingons and Fandos, and it would be beautiful.

Well, Anakin is supposed to be straight up badass. So LOGICALLY the only person who fits is Chuck Norris. But Anakin isn't from America, so it was out of the question.

One thing I think we all need to realize when saying who could have or should have been Anakin is that while Hayden Christensen is not a good actor (no matter how enjoyable the following films were, he just wasn't that good in Shattered Glass or Jumper) George Lucas is also, self-admittedly, not a good writer. People can call me a bad fan for that, but he proclaimed himself to be the "King of Wooden Dialogue" while accepting the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award. No matter who was cast, it would've been hard for them to pull off the character.

This is especially true in Episode II where Anakin just had the worst lines out of anyone, and was written as a spoiled child. When he reverted back to that in the second half of Episode III, it also would have been hard to do. Notice that Hayden's best acting (comparatively speaking) is in the first half of Episode III? Yeah, that's because Anakin was written the way Anakin should always have been written (that nightmarishly bad scene with Padme on the balcony where they're all I love you more, no I love you more, NO I LOVE YOU MORE aside...).

In the first half of Episode III, he was written as the hero without fear, a brave Jedi Knight and war hero who looked into the eye of a stupid evil robot and said "you're shorter than I expected." Why is that good? Because it translates to "You know what? You just captured me and I'm surrounded by a room full of people who want to gut me like a fish, but go **** yourself."

Lucas said that Hayden Christensen had some James Dean qualities to him, which I agree with....so long as he doesn't talk. He has the James Dean look, and the emotions he's able to convey with his eyes are great and he has a great intensity as a fighter, but when he starts to talk he just sucks. Save for the look, he was really nothing like James Dean. He was a whiny child.

I'll take "BUT I WAS GONNA GO INTO TOSCHE STATION TO PICK UP SOME POWER CONVERTERS" over that any day of the week.

And that is why Bac should have facial reconstruction surgery to look like George Lucas, kill George Lucas, and then take his place.

Genius.

My socks are on the other side of the room. Bac=epic win. Your understanding of the SW galaxy as a whole, separate entity, with universally understood characters and themes, is beyond belief. I bow to your unvarnished wisdom.

That would've been epic, especially later when Vader says "Luke, I am your father" and it's the same guy.

Indeed. Just do what they did with Arnold in Salvation and it would have been awesome.

If he was younger when the movies were made I would have said Ethan Hawke.

River Phoenix would've been good if he wasn't, you know, dead.

I don't blame the fact Anakin was annoying to watch on hayden Christensen's acting, I blame it on Lucas' atrocious' screenplay and had direction which is even worse.

Leonardo DiCaprio, who was in consideration to play Anakin.

Would have ruined DiCaprio's career. Lucas might have wanted him, but I would have lost so much respect for DiCaprio if he had agreed to that.

DiCrapio? He screwed up his South African accent so much in Blood Diamond I couldn't figure out which part of the globe he wanted his character from.
I'd assume that he "screwed up the South African accent" because his character was from Zimbabwe.
Scarlet Johansson.

Strange, I know. But think about Scarlet and Natalie Portman kissing.
...I guess it's true what they say about hot lesbians.

Superior actors can pull off crap. Just look at Ewan McGregor. He had some of the dumbest lines ever in Episode III, and yet he was a badass.

I thought that his role in Star Wars could well have ruined his career too. Lucky for him that he's just that good that shite direction, shite screenplay and the general nature of Star Wars didn't overshadow his actual talent.

Sam Riley or Ryan Phillipe maybe. I dunno, what's done is done.

The thing that ticks me off is when they changed anakin to Hayden in ROTJ. Why the hell does he change into a twenty year old when he dies? the others didn't.

Honestly, I've been kind of annoyed by everyone bashing the prequels, I mean they told the story, and yes Jar Jar was annoying, and Anakin a bit whinier than he shoulda been, but Luke was whiney as shit in the originals, and I think Hayden did a great job, and sure I could think of better actors that could have played the part, but why waste a shot to start another career, I mean it was Star Wars the movie was gonna sell itself you didn't need Depp DiCaprio and Deniro in it to push it to the box office. Biggest stars of the time in there were Ewan, Natalie, and Liam, and still I dare most people, without IMDB, to name me 10 movies between the three of them (minus 3 star wars for ewan and nat).

So yeah to answer the question I think Hayden shoulda played Anakin, it worked.:CAbove:
