Why is everything [ASK] these days?

That's not what this was about though. I don't want my ego, nor any part of me stroked.

As a newcomer I will agree that I would like to see more open threads. I certainly understand why threads would start or move to the [Ask] designation but it seems that many of the open threads don't get any attention or if they are active, it's with new characters attempting to get a foot hold. For me, its difficult to feel like I can or should ask to join a thread. I think it just takes time to make OOC/IC friends and that makes posting easier.

Just find a few people you wanna write with and VM them. Easiest way to get involved.

When I first joined I made an open thread. The first page went alright. By page two everyone was shooting rocket launchers at each other and blasting people away from their star ships. The purpose of the story (getting a bounty) was soon abandoned and it was a get-out-alive situation. That's why I don't do open any more.

Thanks for the tip Bee. I thought about it a few times and never did it. I get stupid shy sometimes.

Lol. That was how I was when I started. What got me really moving in the beginning was PM/VMing and making friends with the GA AFL Gaja, and from there to Cassanova, then TAC and GABA and so on. Quickly enough, not only was I getting a LOT of rp time, but also random requests from people who were referred to me by my activity IC and OOC. Having Skype to make friends then helped immensely.

Personally, I think the whole viewing of ASK threads as CLOSED is a very valid point. That said, people get afraid of joining something as potentially random and dangerous as OPEN threads as they're VERY worried about IC death. I know that I was until I realized the sheer rarity of PvP killing, which is exceedingly rare at best. Not that it couldn't happen, but, if you're clever enough, you can get out of it.

Yeah, I wish they would return the CLOSED prefix. Then people will know which ASK threads are actually Ask-to-get-in.

Indeed. All of mine are ask to enter. I would make it open, but I prefer everyone having a basic understanding of the plot/who is already involved.
