THE MANDALORIAN DOMINION
(Sign-up page link)
HISTORY
For years, Mandalore was a steadfast member of The Republic. For years our legendary warriors were thrown to the front lines of Republic conflicts. When the Sith attacked, again, it was we who held the boarder; defending the opulence and sloth of the core worlds from an enemy that seemed impossible for them to be rid of.

No more.

For years, sons and daughters of Mandalorian tradition drifted from their home to ply their trade for credits, The oldest and most infamous of these mercenary groups, known as Ha'rangir's Chosen, once served the old gods of battle with unmatched devotion, but time had waned their resolve. While the culture around them deviated from such ancient religion, so to did they, becoming more focused on credits than honor or tradition. According to the old law, the war god Kad Ha'rangir executes his will through his chosen people, Ha'rangir's Chosen; but during hours of great darkness in the galaxy, when The Chosen have turned away from their Lord, he will intervene through one of his priests, and intervene he did. Ha'rangir spoke to his proxy, War Priest Mikha'el, and instructed him to anoint a new leader for the group. That leader was Prudii Kyramud, of clan Kryze. He lead a coup against then Chosen leader Caedryn Vizsla, and the coup led to a divide in the Chosen, some choosing to follow Vizsla in exile,

Death Watch rose from the ashes of the fractured Chosen. The origin of their name traced millennia back, further than recorded history. The Death Watch were not mercenary in the way the chosen had been, they fought with purpose, committing themselves to the radical fight for a free and powerful Mandalore, above all else. They were ruthless, crusading through the Galaxy, seizing territory Outer Rim, before staging an invasion of Mandalore itself. Once they took Mandalore, the glorious mission of the Death Watch was complete. Mandalore and her sister worlds, Concord Dawn, and Kalevala, once again joined under one flag, and the Mandalorian Dominion was born. Free of the Republic, free of the Sith. Free.

Prime Minister of the Dominion, Veryc Almec, censuring Mand'alor Prudii Kyramud, leader of Death Watch, for allying with the Sith in their campaign for independence; particularly for his recklessness and stupidity in aiding their attack on Coruscant, seized power and immediately set about securing Mandalorian territory, promising safety and security to any worlds that would join Mandalore in its new sovereign government. Upon Kyramud's death at Coruscant and the rise of Mand'alor Talia Al'saif, Veryc welcomed the new Mand'alor with open arms, supporting her as a leader worthy of the title.

Since the death of Kyramud, he has again been hailed as a hero to the Dominion, known forever as Manda'lor the Reclaimer. Questionable as his actions may have been, he freed us from the Republic with his life, and from the Sith in death.

DESCRIPTION
Though the name has changed, and they are now a sovereign nation, the ferocity of the Chosen & Death Watch has not been dulled in the Dominion. Though they may be seen as less fanatical, the sons and daughters of Mandalore are still hell bent on glory in their crusade across the galaxy. Their numbers are still primarily human, the primary race of Mandalore, but they accept all species - so long as they embrace Mandalorian tradition and pledge their allegiance to the Dominion.

True to old tradion, the Dominion promotes the use of iconic Mandalorian armor. Even non-humans are expected to respect this rite, and will have custom sized armor forged for them out of Mandalorian Iron, referred to as beskar - a durasteel like alloy with identical properties. Members of the the Dominion have free reign with their armor, as it is to them Beskar'gam, or Iron Skin, and may paint it in any color scheme or pattern that they like, each color having a traditional meaning or symbolism. This right is one passed directly to them by Lord Ha'rangir and is not one that any true Mandalorians would encroach upon. Many pragmatic members find themselves wearing darker toned armors, or armor painted in camouflage - though younger members often enjoy bright patterned armors or designs. Either pleases the god of war.

CULTURE
Resol'nare:

The Six Actions, when translated to basic, represent the basic expectations of one who wishes to be considered a Mandalorian. While modernity has allowed for some wiggle room in interpretation, these are still expected in some form by members of a the Dominion. These fundamental tenets are, in no particular order:

  • Wear Armor: Beskar'gam is implied, but not specified. Contemporary sensibility might interpret this to mean a show or display of ones pride; a truth of Mandalorian identity impervious to assault.

  • Speak the Language: Mando'a. If you want to be Mandalorian, know how to speak Mandalorian. (you do not need to do this IC, and if you do, include translations). This really applies to the culture at large, as well. Respect and observe the history and traditions you wish to live among.

  • Defend Oneself, and One's Family: Personal responsibility is very big here. Don't start fights you can't finish, and finish the fights that threaten what is most precious. To live is to fight, and family is one of the only things you are truly connected to. Do not take that for granted.

  • Raising your Children as Mandalorian: Mandalorians are expected to raise their children as Mandalorians, teaching them the art of warfare and the ways of the clans. If you truly believe in our ways, you should accept them, and wish them for your offspring.

  • Contribute to the Clan's Welfare: Responsibility again. Be an active part of society. Contribute. Care for. While individual clan culture is still very much alive, this is widely understood to encompass the larger "clan" idea of all Mandalorians, and by extension the Dominion.

  • Rally to the Mand'alor: The Mand'alor is the singular example of what it means to be Mandalorean. They have proven themselves the strongest, and (hopefully) wisest warrior among a people of warriors. When they call, you come.

Professions:

It is true that Mandalorians are famed for their warrior culture, however they are still a thriving modern society, and should not be confused with barbarians. The discipline they learn as combatants is reflected in their many diverse vocations, and breeds some of the finest artisans, engineers, diplomats, scientists, farmers, etc. in the galaxy. Indeed their are few professions and lifestyles unavailable to a Mandalorian, provided they can defend it.

There are, however, some occupations deeply frowned upon in Mandalorian culture. For example, while mercenary work is considered an honorable use of one's skill, bounty hunting is decidedly not. To act alone, and strictly for one's own benefit is an affront to clan mentality; not to mention an underhanded form of engaging a foe, unfit for a true Mandalorian warrior. There is also the matter of how frequently our own warriors find themselves with a price from a vanquished foe with something to prove, which can build some dangerous conflict of interest. While nothing strictly prohibits a Mandalorian from pursuing this way of life, and many have, there will be no small amount of shame and reproach awaiting them back home.

Another black mark for Mandalorians is the force. The culture is almost universally in agreement that those who use it are little better than cultists, and not to be trusted. While throughout our history Mandalorians have fought alongside & against both Jedi & Sith, the respect for them as warriors does not extend to an acceptance of their mysticism and dogmatic obsession with one another. Most Mandalorians have no desire to tarnish our traditions and disciplines with it's use, and at best consider it a crutch. If one cannot ignore it's presence and it helps you a little, fine, but Jedi and Sith will only try to use you if discovered, so best let it be.

Beliefs:

Mandalore, and it's sister world's, are fully modernized societies; and as such have grown more and more secular over the years. While this may separate them from the extremely literal dogma of the Mandalorian Crusades, the belief system and its values are the heart and soul of their society. The unifying of the Mando'ade as one people, the glory of seeking challenge and facing conflict head on, the commitment to discipline, and the rite of the strong are as relevant as ever to Mandalorians. Even if an individual does not believe in the literal Gods of old, it is more common than not to casually refer and attribute these ideals to them as a show of reverence for that which is greater than oneself.

Pantheon:

Akaanati'kar'oya—the "War of Life and Death", creation myth once taken literally revleaing the Old Gods:
  • Kad Ha'rangir: The destroyer god, represents change; often praised with ritual combat
  • Arrasuum: The sloth god, represents stagnation; Ha'rangir's natural opposition
  • Hod Ha'ran: The trickster god, represents the fickle nature of fortune

Manda: the more contemporary concept of the "oversoul" or collective essence of Mandalorians. Manda is very representative of the shift away from the Old Gods, and into a more allegorical understanding of their beliefs.

INTENT
This faction serves to provide a continuation of The Chosen, & Death Watch for Mandalorian players. With a Mandalorian background and core player group this will allow the exploration of cultural, religious, and political ideas within such a group, and how they interact between themselves as well as outsiders both on and off the battlefield. By allowing non Mandalorian characters into the faction, under the moniker of the Mandalorian Foreign Legion, players will be able to explore the concepts of brotherhood between warriors with varied cultural and religious backgrounds, and how such interactions affect and motivate changes in character’s view and beliefs.

Due to the nature of this faction it will give players who enjoy 'plots' and 'schemes' as this faction's main goal will be the expansion of Mandalorian power. This expansion will take multiple avenues, be they espionage, economic, or military conquest.

ASSETS
Rising directly from the remains of the Chosen, and later Death Watch, the Dominion retained control of their resources and assets. Their numbers swelled after the Battle of Mandalore, their new legitimacy as a government drawing more soldiers from the Mandalorian Civilians.

Reorganizing the armed forces of Mandalore into the Mandalorian Legion, the Dominion is poised for war. While comprised mainly of Mandalorians, The Mandalorian Legion accepts all who are willing to fight in the defense of Mandalore and its territories. Members of the Legion bear the rank of SuperCommando, and they are skilled in a broad range of warfare, ranging from guerilla tactics and infantry fighting, to space combat.

The Mandalorian Protectors as a whole haven't fully joined the forces of the Mandalorian Dominion, biding their time while they await the arrival of a worthy Mand'alor. However, several individual Protectors have taken it upon themselves to join the Dominion, serving as the elite of the Dominion's armed forces, a position of incredible honor and prestige.

HISTORY
The history of the Mandalorian people is one nearly as ancient and deep as the Galaxy itself. Hailing from the planet of Mandalore in the Mid-Rim, the Mandalorian people have always been an agrarian society of skilled warriors. The people of Mandalore remained relatively secluded to their sector until the rest of the galaxy stumbled upon them. Upon discovery of the Jedi, the Mandalorians began to dedicate their research and design into a way to combat the Force, and neutralize the disturbing threat that the Jedi posed.

This ultimately led to the birth of Mandalorian Supercommandos, the most fearsome and professional warriors in the galaxy. During the war with the Old Sith Empire the Mandalorians remained largely independent, but they suffered greatly as a front line between the Empire and the Republic. In the aftermath of the war the clans were in poor shape, and eventually under the rule of Mand'alor the Conformer Mandalore was brought into the fold of the Republic.

For years, Mandalore was a steadfast member of The Republic. For years their legendary warriors were thrown to the front lines of Republic conflicts. When the Sith attacked, again, it was the Mandalorians who held the border; defending the opulence and sloth of the core worlds from an enemy that seemed impossible for them to be rid of.

During this practical slavery by the Republic, Mandalorians drifted from their home to work for credits as mercenaries, bounty hunters, and hired security. Such work is dishonorable according to traditional Mandalorian values, but these people were left with no other course of action under the yoke of the pacifistic Republic. The oldest and most infamous of these mercenary groups, known as Ha'rangir's Chosen, once served the old gods of battle with unmatched devotion, but time had waned their resolve. While the culture around them deviated from such ancient religion, so too did they, becoming more focused on credits than honor or tradition. Kyramud led a coup against the then current leader of the Chosen, Caedryn Vizsla. The Warriors of the Chosen were split in two, some choosing to follow Kyramud's regime, and others following Vizsla into exile.

From the ashes of the fractured chosen came Death Watch. The fighting for Mandalore was intense, and pitted Mandalorian against Mandalorian. At the end of the day, when the dust settled, the Death Watch invaders stood victorious, and the Republic forces ran like scared dogs from the newly claimed Mandalorian soil. Once they took Mandalore, the glorious mission of the Death Watch was complete. Mandalore and her sister worlds, Concord Dawn, and Kalevala, once again joined under one flag, and the Mandalorian Dominion was born. Free of the Republic, free of the Sith. Free.

Immediately upon formation of the Dominion, Prime Minister of the Dominion, Veryc Almec, censured Mand'alor Prudii Kyramud, leader of Death Watch, for allying with the Sith in their campaign for independence; particularly for his recklessness in aiding their attack on Coruscant. He seized power and immediately set about securing Mandalorian territory, promising safety and security to any worlds that would join Mandalore in its new sovereign government, while also disbanding the old Death Watching, and disowning its actions and leaders. Upon Kyramud's death at Coruscant and the rise of Mand'alor Talia Al'saif, Veryc welcomed the new Mand'alor with open arms, supporting her as a leader worthy of the title. Since his death, Kyramud has again been hailed as a hero to the Dominion, known forever as
Manda'lor the Reclaimer. Questionable as his actions may have been, he freed us from the Republic with his life, and from the Sith in death.

Following their establishment, the Dominion continued its growth at a rapid pace, expanding to control the entirety of the Mandalorian sector, as well as the nearby Eshan and Prackla sectors. This rapid expansion was not without growth pains, and as such strife began to brew between the Prime Minister's office, which desired alliances with the galactic powers, and Mand'alor, who argued that the Mandalorians would simply be enslaving themselves all over again if they allied with the Sith—and that an alliance with the Jedi was out of the question (as the Mandalorians and the Jedi had always been enemies). During this period of strife, Ral Vizsla returned from his exile and made a bid for the position of Manda'lor. In the end, his warring faction won out, and the Prime Minister's office was abolished in favor of a more militaristic leadership to the Dominion—which would rely upon the clan-rule of the ancient Mandalorians.

At the same time, the Mandalorian Dominion continued its growth, expanding to control the entirety of the Mandalore sector, along with the nearby Eshan sector and the Prackla sector, which was in the Expansion Region. As the Dominion grew, strife began to emerge between the Prime Minister's office, which desired alliances with the galactic powers, and Mand'alor, who argued that the Mandalorians would simply be enslaving themselves all over again if they allied with the Sith—and that an alliance with the Jedi was out of the question (as the Mandalorians and the Jedi had always been enemies). During this period of strife, Ral Vizsla returned from his exile and abdicated the position of Manda'lor. In the end, his war faction won out, and the Prime Minister's office was abolished in favor of a more militaristic leadership to the Dominion—which would rely upon the clan-rule of the ancient Mandalorians.
