World War II: Take Two!

If starting two diverse rps is against some rule that I did not locate, I apologize in advance.

I recently watched Saving Private Ryan (1998) with Tom Hanks, and I have to say: that is a very good and inspiring movie. Inspiring enough that I was reminded of Wing's attempt to start a WWII rp. I'll try to do my best to pick up where he left off, in a different mindset.

I'm also in the middle of taking exams, so I will not be able to do much online until Friday the 25th.

Background
Operation: Overlord was a costly success. Uncounted Allied fatalities line the beaches of Normandy, their blood still staining the shores. But the war is still far from over. There is the matter of retaking France, and then marching to Berlin, the heart of Nazi Germany. Although pathfinders work their hardest to help ease navigation, the Allied forces are hard pressed in fighting on the unfamiliar, French terrain.

Unless people dislike the idea, all PCs of the same faction will be part of the same company/division/whatever (depending on the number of participants). Leadership can be decided through popular vote. Our characters are deployed on Omaha Beach to start.

Equipment: First aid equipment, M1911 "Colt", binoculars
Appearance: Wearing the standard-issue American combat uniform, he is designated as a combat medic with the Red Cross on a white background painted on his helmet, abiding by the terms of the Geneva Conventions. He has dark brown hair and brown eyes, and stands about 5ft. 10in. Rivers carries a backpack that holds his first aid supplies, and some ammunition for his only firearm. His pistol, the M1911 Colt, remains in a holster on his right leg.

I have researched World War II and I'm sorry: You can't have any weapon. Army Medics could not carry weapons.

If the medic had a pistol that would be considered perfidy. Medics are protected under the banner of the Red Cross, which makes it a war crime to engage the enemy or otherwise act in a non-neutral fashion. In turn, it is a war crime to attack a neutral party bearing either a white flag of surrender or Red Cross. So, no, the medic shouldn't have a gun.

Appearance: Marcus is 6'2" and has a very strong athletic looking build. He has perfect blond hair cut short just like all other soldiers, sharp piercing blue eyes, and is a bit pale. He does not seem to have any flaws on his face leaving with the appearance of one of the Reich's perfect Aryan soldiers.

Appearance/Background: He is tall a well built, with short dark hair and a stony face. A battle hardened veteren, long serving in the BEF in both France and Africa before partaking in the liberation of mainland Europe. He is brave and quite clever. He comes from a good background, going to a good school and deciding when he was eighteen to apply for the British Officers Academy. The same year he married his sweetheart and carries a picture of her everywhere. She is pregnant, he having a few months leave after his service in Africa. He was accepted, attaining terrific scores on the physical side of his application and well above average on his mental tests. He graduated when he was twenty one, passing out in 1938 as a 2nd Lieutenant. Since then he has excelled, earning a medal for bravery at Dunkirk, almost getting himself killed helping other soldiers to safety, and numerous commendations, from mentions in dispatches to medals, in Africa for sterling service. He is a confident leader and clever tactician, succeeding when the odds are stacked against him becasue of his ability to utilise his men almost perfectly.

Actually, I am Agnostic as I have not been initiated into a Christian faith. Even when I was Jewish, I'd still do a German because I would want to give you a PC opposition.

I've read the information of the Geneva Convention. The information suggests weapons are allowed by medics, but only to be used for self defense (like the UN Peace corps - fire only when fired upon). Any offensive weapons, like bazookas, machine guns, etc... nullify the "automatic protection" provided by the Convention's terms.

EDIT: I'm not concerned when it comes to ranks, although you probably won't find a 5-star general charging on the front lines.

I didn't know that, sorry. But if you are going to be a Medic, a semi-automatic rifle (M1 Garand), I would consider an offensive weapon.

That basically ruins the purpose of having popular vote for a leader... If people desire it, we can have just a British and American-Canadian military group bunched together.

Yeah but some people need to be Privates and Corporals, not all Captains, Lieutenants, and Sergeants. Grunts are needed.
