DESCRIPTION
The XI-7 Sporthopper is a high-performance starhopper produced by Barancar Action Systems, a venerable Outer Rim starship manufacturer based in the Tion Cluster. Designed for and commonly used on the racing circuit, the Sporthopper is considered one of the finest sport-craft of recent years, and like many BAS designs it is highly prized by those who fly it.

The Sporthopper is roughly starfighter-sized, 12.5 meters in length with space for a single pilot. The pilot is augmented by a socket for an astromech droid, the droid being required to regulate certain shipboard systems and perform calculations related to the operation of the ship's class 1 hyperdrive, as well as perform certain limited in-flight repairs. Stock, the Sporthopper's top speed is 115 MGLT, with excellent maneuverability.

Of note, the Sporthopper utilizes wingtip engine mounts atop vertical stabilizers, which can be retracted inboard for a more compact footprint when landed. The ship also possesses no stock armament, qualifying it for strictly civilian licensing requirements, although some individuals have modified their Sporthoppers with weapons, a practice which is considered illegal without significant re-licensing and permits.

Sporthoppers, being a high-performance racing craft, are not as easy to fly as your average light freighter, or even your average low-end starfighter. They are equipped with highly sophisticated, sensitive controls, and are known for being unforgiving toward the unprepared. Many a rich playbeing has wrecked their Sporthopper while trying to treat it as just another expensive toy.

LEGALITY
Legal. XI-7 Sporthoppers are legally classified as starhoppers, and are only subject to civilian licensing requirements.

INTENT
To create a new ship of a category not yet represented on the site.
