DESCRIPTION​

The XR-85 Tank Droid was created to help the Empire cover it's vast territory and protect as many different important installations as possible without stretching their available manpower to breaking point. As the demands of the Empire made manned tanks steadily more impractical as the Galactic Civil War ramped up, the XR-85 came along as the alternative. They were used to guard key targets due to their heavy firepower, heavier armor and the droid brains allowing them to work without rest.

As demand increased, the XR-85 had it's integrated droid brain upgraded to be the same model used by the R7-Series of astromech droids. This allowed a greater degree of flexibility and learning on the part of the XR, making it more effective in battle. During the fall of the Empire, many of the units 'went missing', only to end up in the hands of pirate leaders, warlords and Hutts the Galaxy over.

Production continued at Arakyd Industries however, the XR series of droid tanks being open to all military buyers once the Empire fell. During the rise of the First Order, the XR series was sold to both the New Republic and the First Order through several back-door deals brokered on planets such as Canto Bight. Once the First Order was defeated, Arakyd Industries lost their lucrative deals with them but opened up to selling to the planets of the FWA individually, as well as to planets within corporate space and the Outer Rim.

Because of this, the XR-85 series of Droid Tanks can be found in many different places around the Galaxy despite being an old design. Improvements have been made gradually over time but none big enough to be called a new model entirely, leading to the XR-85 keeping it's designation despite internal improvements to keep it up to date with modern technology.

LEGALITY​

Restricted. As they are developed purely for warfare on a large and destructive scale, it is classed as an armored military vehicle so civilian ownership is illegal. Only recognized military and private military contractors are able to buy and operate these legally in most areas of the Galaxy.

INTENT​

To bring a canon battle tank over to the site so that factions can have tanks/self-propelled artillery that isn't in Walker form. Some of the canon stats for the weapons have been changed to better fit the level of weapon scaling seen on the site (Heavy Particle Cannon changed to Heavy Laser Cannon etc).

RESTRICTIONS​

As a very destructive military vehicle/droid, the XR-85 cannot be owned by individual characters, but can be acquired as a faction asset.
