Tython Jedi Academy - Training Yard

While they had never used the word prisoner and his quarters wasn't a cell perse, it was quite apparent what he was. They had questioned him and Silas had been very cooperative, having nothing of real value to hide.

He had snuck into this very Academy a year earlier, this was something he didn't deny. They would know that he arrived, attended the funeral and left. He had not been on the world for more than a few hours. They could verify this easily, and yet they insisted on treating him like he was some great threat.

It had been a couple of days since their arrival. They had been largely keeping Loa away from him, deeply concerned on the influence he had over the girl. No doubt convinced he was teaching her the darkest of arts. Silas had been patient but even his patience had limits. When he had started to make a scene about it they told him they could meet in the Temple’s training yard but under heavy guard.

His small contingency of guards had escorted Silas to a secluded training yard to ensure he could not corrupt any of the Jedi who happened to be training at the academy. Loa was not far behind.
He smiled as she approached. “Hope you are staying out of trouble.” He said glancing over at the six temple guards. “They said we could train for a bit. My quarters were beginning to feel a bit cramped.” He said stretching.

They had taken his staff when they had arrived, deemed too deadly an artifact to be carried but they had provided with training staves here. He tossed one to Loa. They had fought in search away hundreds of times. Its familiarity was comforting to Silas as he prepared to spar with the young woman.

Loa was woken bright and early much like her training sessions on Andara she groaned unhappily as she got ready and was escorted by a couple unlucky Jedi without any mention on where they were going or who she was meeting with. However, as she neared, she could feel Silas' presence grow stronger and a grin widened on her face. She found it hard to pinpoint him in a sea of many Force users and wondered if he didn't do that on purporse. He greeted her cheerfully and Loa couldn't remember when the last time it was he looked relieved to see her.

The girl smiled back as he inquired if she was staying out of trouble, "No extra laps this time, Master." she replied; he stretched and then tossed her one of the temple's training staves. Loa rolled her wrist, feeling the muscles stretch as she took a couple steps back, she knew what this meant and she'd been eager to run drills lately.

She took a few steps backwards, readying her mind and body, still rotating the staff some more with her wrist, then her elbow and shoulder, warming up her joints from a sleep she had just left recently. Loa centered herself, her feet planted flat, her body shifted slight for greater maneuverability either defend or attack. And then there was the Force, just like her first day of training, it was ingrained on how she could access it, to trust it and it would lead her astray. She had yet to tell Silas about the skirmishes she faced on Chalacta, but they showed her a lot on where she was the weakest. Loa brought her staff around, "Ok, Master, which drill today?" she asked, signally she was ready.

A couple of captives had been brought in for intruding on Tython. Grug heard they were exiles who tried to sneak in to maybe cause trouble. The Gamorrean had fought the exiles and the Sith so he wanted to see who these were. He was on the world awaiting his trial of mastery anyways so it was not out of the way to sniff out these guests. It became obvious that part of the training grounds had been set side for these guests. Grug approached and waved to the guards.

"Hi." He grunted, peeking at the guests but being shocked to see he recognized the girl. "TRUFFLE GIRL!"

One of the temple guards stared at Grug but said nothing. It seemed to consider the big guy before surrendering to letting him through. The fat Gamorrean waddled into the area. Grug waved to the girl but eyed the man. They did not seem like evil Sith or exiles. The girl was even someone Grug had met once in the recent past. He wondered what was going on but he wouldn't dig too deep. Thinking did hurt after all. For now he would watch what looked like a training session or maybe even help.

Jubba had been excited with the news of Grug's trial of mastery taking place on Tython and naturally came to support his bestest friend in the order. The opportunity to meet other Jedi and study in the large Jedi halls was a welcome one after all their recent ordeals but today Grug had invited Jubba to go on a stroll. The Jedi didn't often take captives and fewer still would then be permitted outside even under guard whomever the pair were, the order clearly didn't consider them as big of a threat as the Sith.

After Grug managed to get the pair handwaved past the guards, Jubba pulled a pickled rabbit foot sandwich from his robes many food pouches and took a hefty bite out of the scrumptious morsel. Grug startled him with the surprise realization that the imprisoned exiles were, in fact, someone they knew, well at least one of them was! Jubba could hardly contain his excitement as one of the pickled rabbit feet fell out of his mouth.

"HI Loa! good see you, here for join Jedi?" Jubba asked excitedly, hoping she had.

He stretched as well, noting subtle popping noises as he stretched out the stiffness. He was too young to feel this old. "Why am I not comforted by this answer?" he said as he shook his head slightly. It was likely she just hadn't been caught yet.

She moved the staff around her hand, getting a feel for the different weight than the one she normally carried. He had hoped to begin training her with the blade but it seemed that would have to wait for another time. For now, they would stick to the weapon they knew. At this point, they had been sparring with staves for years and she was quite good with the weapon. He wouldn't have even bothered mentioning the lightsaber but he knew his apprentice and her near mythical ability to be stubborn. She would have found a way to get her hands on the weapon somehow and would likely sever all of her limbs before realizing she was wrong.

He had hoped to spar for a time alone, or at least as alone as one could be when constantly escorted by so many guards but Jedi began making their way over towards them.

"We can just spar for now." he said unsure of how long we would be granted to be out. Spinning the staff several times he quickly moved towards her and swung low at her legs as he attempted to sweep her legs from underneath her. The two approaching Jedi were now calling to Loa. Perhaps they would distract her, but she was too advanced a student for Silas to pull back of she was distracted. They fought so she could protect herself, and getting distracted meant getting killed. If she let her focus slip for even a second, she would find her self on her back.

Regardless of whether she fell or not he would then jab the staff towards her midsection.

Two temple guards flanked her. Not because she'd done anything wrong, more because she'd asked them to come along while she and her sister went to the training yard. She was probably pushing it, letting Kathry walk around with the legs she'd bought her, but if there little meeting with Lucian was any indication Aliyah was making progress.

It was small progress, little by little, but Venatus had been the same way. The Vahla were slow to trust, she knew that, and this entire little thing was to prove to Kathry she could open up to the Jedi. "And this is the training yard. We actually don't really have cells, it's not what this place was built for. Loa and Silas, they're basically stuck here like you. Except they didn't fight. Lesson to be learned there, Kat." Today was going to be a little different than the last time they'd talked. She wanted to know why Silas was here, but the real reason she was outside was to understand Kathry. To get to know her. The guards where... insurance.

The Jedi could offer her a lot, just like they did her father. She doesn't have to be perfect, but she'd already shown that she was willing to try and be better. So today Aliyah wanted to find out the cause of all this anger inside of her, where it came from, and how they could approach and come to terms with it. "So, Dad told me that you lived in a Basilica. That you were, uh, supposed to be one of the Chosen like him. See that's where I get a little confused, because we both thought you were dead. He was actually torn up about it, and I couldn't ever convince him it wasn't his fault. So... how are you here?" Aliyah paused and turned to the dark haired girl with an eyebrow raised. She could see from the corner of her eye that Jubba was watching Loa and Silas spar, and it almost caused her to smile. She remembered when it was her on the receiving end of a stick, because Ven never pulled his hits. She either blocked, or she learned, one or the other.

And the cycle of life continues. I wonder if anyone is going to have a problem with me being here.

Her talk with Vollen, and her disagreements with Master Zeerda and his Knights had opened her eyes to something she hadn't seen before. The Order had a lot of flaws, and there really wasn't anything she could do to help fix them. She wasn't allowed to. But, she could prove that anyone has the potential to come back from the Darkness, and that's where Kathry came in. If Kat, like her Dad, chose to live the life of a Jedi, then she could say without reasonable doubt that anybody could. She was going to double her efforts, and if Kathry didn't want to join the Jedi then maybe she'd at least stop hating herself. She was good at pretending to be strong, but, Aliyah could see through the disguise. "...and why didn't you tell us sooner? Instead of going to them? They killed him, Kat. You have to know that by now. You have family here. You could have asked for help." Aliyah was actually kind of happy that they had other forced guests here. It would help the young girl understand she wasn't alone.

"Mmmh, indeed. So the mock cell you made in the higher parts of the Academy was... just for me? I'm flattered. I do apologize for fighting your boyfriend, Aliyah, you've really been harping that point for a while. I have already told you that was not why I had gone."

The boyfriend part was every much as sarcastic as the rest of the sentence. Part of the Vahla appreciated what Aliyah was trying to do here, it was obvious that she believed somehow the Jedi would accept her as she was. But that was something that would never occur. The Embers could not accept her, the Sith did not accept her, why in the name of the Goddess would the Jedi accept her. Though, her sister's assumption was most correct. The vast majority of the anger and hatred that tainted her connection to the Force came from the deepest of self-loathing, the belief that she could never attain the impossible expectations she strived for. The mention of two others did put her slightly at ease, however. Her dignity would remain intact, though a slight fear existed within her that a Jedi might simply have enough of the Sorceress' presence and cut her down. Even the Temple Guards regarded her with some level of disdain, to the point the Vahla could not help but laugh slightly. How were derision and intolerance any different than hatred? As Aliyah mentioned the Basilica, the girl paused, leaning back on her new legs.

So. Father talked about me.

"The Basilica, yes. It was no different than one of your temples here. Though I think you would find that failing a lesson of the Jedi had far less permanent consequences. Supposed to be, and became, in fact. In all rights, I still am one of Vahl's Chosen, like Eiric was."

Kathry stopped responding as Aliyah mentioned that her father could never truly get over her death. Those words rang true, and the Vahla began to feel a muffling swarm of nothingness wash over her, guilt for the pain she had caused. At the time, she believed her father a traitor and wanted nothing to do with him or his name. Her grandparents had strived to kill her, she assumed he would act much the same way. But this Twi'lek, this outsider, knew the truth. An outsider no longer, then, as Kathry had begun to respect the Jedi.

"...father was much too strong. He would not have shed tears on my account."

Despite herself, she could see much of her father's conviction in the girl, standing by her truths and doing her duty despite what those around her believed. In many ways, it is what the Sorceress had been forced to do her entire life. Her eyes began to turn lavender again. She wanted it to be true, but Vahla could not help but feel that it was simply what she wanted to hear. Her father had hated the woman she became. It was no guarded secret, the Chosen had paraded it over her head for years.

"I went home one day, to tell my grandparents that father had betrayed our people. But, instead of listening to me, they decided to try and kill me. They were strong and powerful, but I was stronger... and I was unwilling to lay down and die. I left my armor there, scorched and battered so that any who would hunt me down believed me dead. Perhaps it was for the best he did not follow me."

Kathry inhaled hard. She felt nothing, this was not pain, she refused to accept guilt for saving her own life. If what Aliyah said was true, and she came to believe it, then perhaps she should have come to the Jedi for help. But the Sorceress had been told in no uncertain terms that her father and everything he had come to stand for was against her people's way of life. After taking on the name Venatus, he waged a war alone against the Chosen and killed many of the ones she considered colleagues. Though they had been cruel to her, Kathry had never wished death upon them, for together they led the Vahla. But when her mother had sent her away, something inside the girl shattered. It was not a kind farewell, and it was not done to save Kathry's life, it was done so that her mother's legacy could live in some form or another through the next era. She had been all but abandoned by her former Master, her position stolen by the remaining Chosen, who now worked in secret to rebuild. The Sith had found her, rescued her from her slumber, of course, it was they who drew her attention. But only three among their number had treated her as anything more than a weapon. Kathry did not want to leave them, to leave her, behind.

"I did not know you existed, and when I found out I could not help but feel... like you were my replacement. It did not help that you beat me so candidly. I truly did hate you, because I believed you were everything I could not be. You had the only person that was yet alive from my old life, my father adored you like you were his own. I was jealous, I suppose, of all that you were."

Knight-Commander Reddeck made his way toward the training grounds with a quartet of experienced Temple Guards in tow. He was indistinguishable from his counterparts aside from the silvery filigree on the edges of his robes, but none could mistake the air of authority that swirled around him. When the Jedi Temple was restored he had argued for a bank of old initiate bunk rooms to be restored into a proper detention block for the holding of particularly unruly Jedi or wayward prisoners, but the Council had decided against it. That had been reserved for... other facilities. Now that those were complete, the Temple Guard officer could finally get rid of some of the undesirable sorts that had occupied his temple. Approaching Knight Phoenix and the Sith, he motioned for his squad to fan out and surround her.

"The Sith is being transferred to another facility," Reddek announced stoically, "One where she can be kept under closer watch."

He didn't like the freedom the Sith had here out of necessity- the proximity to vulnerable young Knights and trainees. She need to be kept far away, where she couldn't do any damage- at least until the council figured out what to do with her. The Guards- all experienced veterans- would surround the Sith, put her in stun cuffs, and escort her to the hangar for the journey to a new holding area.

Kathry is a prisoner and needs to follow the rules for captured characters- namely getting permission to be used in any capacity. Silas and Isola are being allowed to thread here under very strict conditions and are being monitored. Kathry and Aliyah will both be removed from the thread by Temple Guard.

"Go with them. Don't fight. If you really want to change, Kat... do this for me."

So this is how it was going to be. Aliyah was done with this place. Demand faith, give none in return, enforce it with blade in hand. Kathry was making good progress, and maybe with some like minded guidance she actually had a chance of being redeemed. She was here with permission from the one who captured her.

This would only undo everything she'd managed to accomplish so far. She was close to actually proving people could come back from the Darkness. Was this... an attempt to make sure that knowledge never came out? Aliyah didn't go for her weapon or anything like that, hoping Kathry would do the same. If she was allowed, she'd plead a case for her, but for now there wasn't much she could do. Reddeck, of course, had an issue with this. As she had an issue with his shortsighted views. What about the effects the Knights and trainees might have on somebody who was lost and finding her way.

If she was not threatened, Aliyah would just watch as Kathry was escorted off before approaching this Knight-Commander. His words where mighty, but his disgust was pretty obvious. It was obvious she wasn't welcome here either, but before she left, she had to say something. "She can come back, Master. Consider giving her the opportunity to do so, please. Am I going with you too, or should I be on my way?" Aliyah figured she would ask. Enough rumour existed already that she would be exiled. Her faith in the Order was pretty much gone at this point, this would just force her hands. If not, hopefully she could still trust the people within its ranks. Though even that didn't seem like enough.

I tried, Dad. Let's see where it got me.

No drills, just a spar, which allowed Loa to use more options to get out of tricky situations. She nodded in understanding, still ready for Silas to make the first move, if he decided to make the first move. It had been a while since she sparred with Silas, not since she had left for Chalacta, though while there, she had to focus more on drills and meditation, the Adepts did not believe in using violence to achieve their enlightenment to the Force. Regardless, relying on her instincts and trust within the Force, she could feel what she needed to do. Loa had tried to explain it to some of the other children at the Sanctuary about the feeling, but it was hard to describe the pull, but she knew it was more than that.

Silas made the first move, swinging at her legs, it was an easy block, pointing her staff downward to hold his swing from taking out her legs. It was enough of a hold to allow herself to step into Silas and reaching out to grab a handful of his robes, however, there was a familiar presence, followed by a familiar voice. It was a rookie mistake as she looked up, smiling and Silas had continued with his offense, catching the girl in her unprotected midsection. She knew she was going to get hit before it came and the narrow jab was enough to send her stumbling backwards with a loud "Oof!"

Loa held out her staff defensively, knowing she messed up, but she also knew Silas has been relentless in the past when she has, to keep to more realistic situations. However, this was still training and though she looked to put some distance herself and Silas until she caught her breath and refocused. She wasn't sure if Grubba were just passing, but she wanted to show off what she has learned so far in her training.

"Stay and watch!" she called out to them, realigning, the Light continued to burn through her veins, fueling her resolve and strength as she slowly approached Silas, staff still raised to her side. When she was close enough she swung it across his hip and then up his torso in one smooth motion in order to connect with his unprotected chin from beneath.

Grug watched the temple guards take a couple others away with curiosity. He almost was distracted enough not to hear Isola speak to them. When he heard her voice his focus snapped back to the girl and the odd man with her that she was fighting. She took a hit due to their distraction. Grug felt a bit bad about that but she seemed okay. In fact, she seemed eager to push ahead into the fight. The Gamorrean was happy to watch. He took a seat nearby, but not too close as to be in the way. These captives were technically prisoners of sorts but he did not feel too endangered by being here surrounded by guard and his friends.

"You am best, go win!" He grunted loudly before quietly whispering to Jubba, "Am bet one truffle she win."

A firm nod sealed his gamble with the Hutt Jedi as he turned back to watch. Grug was a warrior himself of course and would offer to join, but he did not want to interrupt. The girl had seemed nice once before and even helped them find truffles. Maybe her master was in trouble and Grug would get to train her instead. He had heard that the main culprit was the older man rather than the girl herself. The Gamorrean wondered what they were doing here at all in such a weird situation.

He didn't pay much attention to the small crowd that was growing. Collectively, The Jedi had treated him as a villain since he had arrived. He thought it best to limit his interaction with them until this was all over.

He gave her space after his staff connected. It was training after all, he let the lesson sink in as the sting faded. She gathered herself and then slowly made her way towards him. She swung towards his left hip and then began to swing the staff upwards, but Silas' staff caught hers as he swung downwards, intercepting the attack before it connected with his body and pushing her staff towards the dirt.

In the same motion, he turned sidewise and kicked with his right foot. The kick was directed at Loa's thigh. He would then withdraw again, whether it connected or not. They were still just getting warmed up, there was no need to press an attack.

Loa though was pressing the offense.

She wanted to show the other Jedi she was a readied warrior, to fight the dark side and its supporters while defending those who could not. He caught her staff, interrupting her attack, but the girl knew from her relentless practices she had to keep following her motions, rely on her instincts as she wanted to win this duel. As his staff came down, Loa stepped closer, his kick coming around to still hit her, but the impact would not be as great as if it were a direct hit on her thigh.

It didn't seem to phase her as she pressed onward, releasing her staff as she shot her fist in an uppercut sweep at his chin. Her other hand reached behind her, the Force beckoning at her needed aid for her weapon as she pulled the staff back to her opposite hand and swung it around, looking to land a hit into her Master's unprotected side. With his interception cutting into the ground and the focus on balancing his body with a rounded kick, Loa knew her Master would have a difficult time to dodge her attack.

Once she made the hit and if her Master distanced him from her, she would follow the same, breaking away before she went in for another assault.

The little truffle girl was a great friend to Grug. He had hoped to meet her again so watching her fight was a great joy. Grug had an idea though. He had bet Jubba one truffle that she would win. The Gamorrean had to make sure that was the case. Jubba would likely notice and try to counter it, but that was most of the fun for them. A slight twitch of the nose came as Grug faked a sneeze. The horrid acting skills were attempting to cover up a force move of sorts. He manipulated the dirt beneath Silas' foot while the other was in the air for a kick. It would attempt to make the ground loose so he would trip and land on his butt. Loa would be able to make a nice hit or win if the other guy was in the dirt.

"Scuse me. Am has big sneezes." He grunted, in an amused tone.

As if Jubba was about to let Grug win a truffle without doing something himself. He waited patiently hoping to assist Loa's defeat although he would have to be careful not to hurt his little friend! Jubba snuck sneakily behind his bigger friend Grug and drew upon the force to make a light force push into Grug, not enough to move his beastly friend but the wind would definitely carry the smell of the Gamorrean toward Loa.

"Sorry Grug, am gassy."

Silas was impressed when Loa stepped into the attack instead of back away. The kick was solid but wouldn't be anywhere near enough to drop her as direct contact would have. As he shifted his weight, to recoil from the kick he felt the tug of the Force, not from Loa, but from somewhere nearby.

The instant later the ground shifted underneath him unnaturally. Given his already off balance state, he fell, his ankle twisting painfully. Loa's punch would miss as he tumbled sidewise but her staff strike would have hit. He raised a hand, freezing the attack mid-swing.

He didn't blame Loa for pressing the attack. That is what he had trained her to do. Avoid combat at all cost, but when it comes time to do so, be relentless. "Enough." he said finally releasing his grip on the staff. His ankle throbbed duly as he pushed himself to his feet. He found it unlikely to stoic temple guards would play such games, which left the two Jedi on the sidelines. He would not remain to be toyed with. "It seems your friends share the same respect for guests as the Masters of this Order." he said disapprovingly. He was nothing more than exiled to these people. He put a hand on Loa's shoulder "Be mindful, Loa." he offered as he stepped off the field, favoring his other leg.

"I am ready to return." he said. He would very much have like to remain but it was time to act out his teachings to Loa. It was always better to walk away from a fight, even when someone commits wrong against you.

Loa felt a wave of confusion as her fist flew through air, but still had pressed onward with the attack from her staff. As it came to make contact with her Master, she felt sudden resistance as her staff froze mid-swing. "Hey! Using-" she stopped as her eyes locked with Silas, she understood as he ended the session. There was a subtle breeze and the girl twisted her face in disgust realizing either Grug or Jubba were gassy or they were in especially need of a bath. However, she didn't let her distract her as Silas seemed annoyed by the Jedi's interference. Loa glanced at Grubba before turning her attention to Silas, her head bowed.

Silas placed a hand on her shoulder and reminded her to be mindful and she looked up at him, nodding, "Yes, Master Silas." she told him. He limped off to the guards, noting he was ready to return to his quarters.

Loa frowned, spinning her staff slowly between her fingers as her mind turned with her thoughts, trying to better read her Master's reaction. He had always not liked the Jedi but never knew why he was exiled from their Order. They had done something to hurt him and it was what she concluded from his resistance and sharp words with the members of the Order. Loa watched Silas until he disappeared into the temple, her mind creating theory after theory until she exhausted her own ideas. Loa walked up to Grubba, careful not to take too big of an inhale while in their presence.

"What did you think of my attack?" she asked.

Grug watched as the grumpy man went to the guards and asked to leave. He was however relieved to see that Truffle Girl stayed behind to talk to them. She was someone who seemed to want to become a Jedi. The force had brought them together once and it seemed to bring them together even now. This Master she followed was not on the best of terms with the Jedi it seemed. Even Grug could gather that much about the situation. The Gamorrean Jedi hoped he could help her move to the Jedi and away from this path she was currently on with this... man.

"Am liked attack. Was good. Think simple attacks ams gooder most time than try be fancy." His tone was serious but had a very happy tinge to it. "Grug thinks could do good as Jedi. Learn with lightsaber, be good protector of galaxy."

It was true that Grug had considered taking on pupils recently. He could lead classes, groups, or even an individual almost like a padawan of old. The large Jedi was unsure exactly how he would do it, but the force would guide him as always. Loa seemed a good candidate if she could get out from under this Master. The Jedi could use people like her. A good truffle hunter could never be truly evil.

Now that the fight was over, Jubba looked relieved. He was never very fond of fighting and tried to only do so if he was forced to defend himself, something that occurred often when traveling with Grug for some reason. Loa's fighting ability was certainly better than his own but that wasn't really hard to do as most force users tended to be. While Grug tried hard to recruit initiates for training, Jubba was a little bit lost on what direction he would take within the order for himself.

"Is gooder than Grug! yes." Jubba playfully jabbed his friend while smiling in front of Loa. "Loa okay?, Grubba not seen much."

Like a scotched egg in lasagna, Jubba felt out of place on the field of battle but the Jedi had many other ways to serve the order. Perhaps he would finally find some time to learn how to read basic despite being fluent in the language.

Grug mentioned learning the lightsaber and Loa frowned, recalling how they got into this mess to begin with; she had still yet to find her crystal, let alone handle a lightsaber. She had only seen it on holos and when Galahad had taken her on tour, but nothing else. Doubts begun to crumble around her thoughts as she quickly shook her head to think of other things. She caught the eye of a guard who seemed to think she too should return to her quarters and Loa frowned but glanced at Jubba when he asked if she were ok.

The girl gave a small smile, "I am okay, Jubba, don't worry, I am strong, and even stronger with the Force." she said raising her arm and flexing her bicep in jest.

"Though, I should get going too, I don't think they like it when I stay out for too long here." she frowned in a slight pout; Loa waved to her friends and ran off to join her Jedi escort back to her temporary quarters.
