DESCRIPTION
The YZ-775 medium transport is a model of freighter in the YZ-series conceived by Corellian Engineering Corporation. Designed as a well-appointed, cargo transport with a relatively heavy armament - ostensibly for fighting off pirates - the YZ-775 was one of the few non-military ships of its type to be openly manufactured under the Galactic Empire, which placed extensive restrictions on the capabilities of civilian vessels. This proved a major point of contention between CEC and the Empire, especially during the Galactic Civil War.

The YZ-775 is a mid-sized freighter, 52 meters in length with a crew of 8, plus space for 14 passengers and 6 months of consumables. Cargo capacity is 400 standard tons. Armament, as mentioned, is heavy for a freighter, consisting of twin medium laser turrets at port and starboard, a dorsal heavy laser turret and a 12-shot concussion missile launcher. The vessel possesses medium shields for defense. Top speed is some 45 MGLT, with average maneuverability. Hyperdrive is class 1, with a class 10 reserve drive in case of the primary drive's failure.

The YZ-775, despite ostensibly being produced for the civilian freighter market, had a habit of winding up in Rebel hands during the Galactic Civil War. This brought it under the scrutiny of the Empire, and its armament was deemed excessive by Imperial authorities, however CEC refuted these claims, citing a valid type certification by the Imperial Bureau of Shipyards & Construction. To be fair, of course, the ship was also operated by legitimate freighter captains, and also by pirates, smugglers, bounty hunters, various paramilitary organizations and so-forth.

In the present day, YZ-775s are no longer produced, but can still be found along the Galaxy's more dangerous hyperlanes...

LEGALITY
Legal. Medium freighters such as the YZ-775 are considered innocuous enough under most jurisdictions, and are not restricted in most systems.

INTENT
To bring a vessel from Legends canon into our site's fanon.
