BIOGRAPHY
Zafara was born as one of the latest generation in the Mandalorian Clan Yoh, a relatively new clan formed following the Great Purge of Mandalore. Both of her parents were full-blooded Mandalorians of the Clan Yoh as well, so they raised her following not only the Mandolorian code but also the way of the Yoh. See, the Yoh were minimalist in life and approached everything with simplicity, absolutely hating technology and saw it as a crutch for the weak and the reason for the purge. To that end, when the planet Mandalore fell they ran as far away as possible and isolated themselves from the modern age, returning to a place that connected them to what they saw to be the roots of the Mandalorian.
So Zafara was born and raised on the planet Askaj, a planet that was full of tribal clans. By this point, the Yoh started to fit in with the people of the planet, and by proxy so did Zafara. Growing up, she spent most of her time with her father learning how to be a Mandalorian at its core, while her mother often taught her the skills in which she would need to survive everyday. Out of the subjects learned, Zafara had a knack for hunting and smithing, finding a simplistic pleasure in using her arms to beat things into submission. Besides this, life for her as a child was pretty tame as life could be on Askaj.
By the time she was a teenager, she had heard almost all the warnings her parents could give. “The dunes of Askaj show no mercy.” and such were often beaten into her head as a kid, but for the most part Zafara didn’t take them seriously. Having her parents and clan to protect her meant that most of the dangerous things were kept far away from her. However, like most teenagers, eventually she had a rebellious phase and began to defy her parents and their wishes. Sneaking out from their enclave one night, Zafara ran into a large and destructive beast. By herself, she was no match but leading it back to her clan, they were eventually able to take it down, though not without casualties. Sixty percent of the clan died, along with both of Zafara’s parents. Killing the beast earned her the right to be considered an adult among the Yoh, but many were not happy with her. Out of respect for her parents, none of them said anything vocally, but many of those whom she would consider family started to be more and more distant.
The next step in her life was to acquire her beskar armor, but there was a large glaring issue: no ships. Because they detested any sort of technology, none of the Yoh had ships to go off the planet and there was no beskar on Askaj. The only alternative was to just melt down her parents’ armor and forge it into her own, but their armor was the only thing she had left of them and Zafara couldn’t imagine parting with it. Luckily for her, however, eventually a ship did land on Askaj; a bunch of bounty hunters looking for a target. Approaching them, at first she asked them for a ride but when that ultimately failed Zafara killed all but one of them. Still needing a pilot, she took the last one hostage and forced him to basically be her chauffeur.
That was recently, and since then Zafara has been on the hunt for beskar to mold into armor of her own.
Personality
At the forefront of her personality is her calmness. It’s nothing supernatural as she still freaks out like most people, just that it takes way more for her to actually lose her cool. Even when she does start to crack, Zafara is the kind of person who cracks jokes rather than trying to fully acknowledge whatever problem is currently happening. To that end, she could be considered a witty person, though due to her sheltered childhood she doesn’t understand most jokes.
There’s a lot of things foreign to her out in the galaxy, but Zafara likes to take an open-minded approach to almost everything. Everything except what it means to be a Mandalorian. She’s not the kind of girl who would shove her ideals down other people’s throats, though when it comes to others like her that aren’t Yoh, she approaches them as if they were ignorant. It’s condescending, that the ones with technology don’t know how much they use it as a crutch. How strong they can be without it. These thoughts rarely bleed out into her interactions, as she tries to treat everyone with respect, but there does seem to be a clear difference between how she speaks to them versus other non-Mandalorians.
As far as culture shock for her goes, there are often times where she comes across something she’s almost certain she knows about just to be proven wrong mere seconds later. Being too prideful to admit she was wrong, she just tries to make a joke and act like she knew all along. It’s a real flaw of hers that Zafara can’t take criticism and has a hard time communicating her feelings to others, this often coming to her detriment, such as what happened to her parents.
Skills
Gunsmith: A skill taught to her by her mother, one that she has developed a knack for. Basically, with enough metal and materials, Zafara can craft guns. However, this is a lost art as the guns that she makes take bullets rather than making the normal blasters of the modern day. That being said, these guns have weird effectiveness in the galaxy as on one hand, the knowledge of tending wounds by bullets is hard to come by, but on the flips side armor has evolved way past bullets so it’s anything but effective.
Swordsmanship: The fallback for when bullets don’t cut it. With a sword by her side, Zafara is as deadly as any other Mandalorian with a blaster, maybe even better if they have horrible aim. While not exactly trained underneath any single style or form, Zafara has been shown to be able to hold her own against most rank-and-file people who also have very little formal training. When it comes to actual trained fighters and jedi, though? She’d most likely get a few cuts in but may barely get away with her life. For now.
