"The danger is twofold," Nescius replied, "firstly, there's the danger of you becoming overcome. You said that it felt to you like being plunged into a pool with the ocean within your grasp. You can control it when it's in your grasp, but if try to grasp too much, you'll end up drowning in it's cold depths."

He paused for a second to allow that to sink in before continuing, "and the other reason is because for those who use it unnecessarily it becomes a crutch. It becomes their handicap. There are ways to lessen somebody's abilities in the force. If you weaken the walking stick of a cripple then it will shatter and the cripple will fall to the ground. Sometimes you simply will not be able to use the force to achieve your ends, if you face somebody more powerful, or you face something for which the force has little affect on. If the force is all you hold, you will be beaten."

"If you use the force to help you on a journey, to improve your speed so you can show off or because you're impatient, to help you climb a rock fact that's difficult, but not urgent, you won't know your limitations. You'll end up finding them out when you're pushed beyond them, and that will not end well. Limitations are not a weakness, but assuming you have none, or just not being aware of what they are, is."

"Part of becoming Bogan," he said as they began to walk up steadily inclining and rockier terrain through the dimly lit wood, "is to to understand, and be proficient in combat. The weapon utilised by members of our order is one that is unique those with the force on their side. It's a weapon that to many Bogan is personal, something that is specific to them, the inner workings are personalised, linked to them. It's called a lightsaber, I'm sure you've heard about them before. Even though they're quite rare, they've attained an almost mythical status of fame in the galaxy."

As they went further through the rocky paths, they came to a much steeper set of mountain slopes and cliff faces, reaching out of their green tree bears and far beyond the sight of the two. Nescius seemed to close his eyes for a minute, as if remembering a memorised picture. He turned sharply, walking up to an extremely steep cliff face, rocky and uneven. Leaning deep into the wall, Nescius began to feel with his hand, as if searching for something. He smiled, his hand on a small rounded piece of stone jutting out. He pulled the stone and it moved, quite stiffly, across about five inches, as if attached to an unseen lever beneath, and came to rest, just as invisible to the naked eye as before it had moved. As he moved it, rather than just the scraping of the rock, as though coming from inside the rock face, was the scraping of metal on metal, and an oily creak. He removed his hand, and began to push against the cliff face, hard. A bead of sweat rolled down his face, as he used his entire bodyweight to do whatever it was he was doing. Finally, the section of cliff he was pushing seemed to give way slightly, with a crunching noise, as if the section was on a hinge, a passage opened. The section of rock he was moving was at least ten feet tall, and twice as wide as Nescius, but as it moved inwards, it was possible to see that it was thin, and that this section of the cliff was hollow.

Once he had made a gap about a foot and a half wide, he stopped and moved the stone under his hand to where it had been, breathing deeply, and motioned of the apprentice to move inside, him following. Once inside, he turned back to the door and flicked a metal catch, which appeared to be the inside of the rock-handle he had moved, and with a loud slam, the door closed, leaving the pair in complete darkness. He made his way forwards in the darkness, feeling his way, through what seemed to be a passage, the same height and breadth as the door they had just entered, although it was difficult to know for sure in the pitch darkness.

Making his way down the corridor, Nescius felt the end approach. An apparently dead end gave as he pushed, flicking another concealed lever, and a crack of light entered the pitch black cavern. Making his way in, with Xasha in tow, he closed the door behind them. They were now standing in a dimly lit chamber, perfectly circular with a domed ceiling that seemed to give the room a vast quality. About fifty meters across at its diameter, and lit with what appeared to be flaming torches, the room seemed large, cavernous and intimidating. Doors, like the one they had just entered, seemed to line the walls at regular intervals, the only difference between each one being a small numeral carved in the centre of each. The one they had just entered was labelled 'I'.

Nescius walked briskly to the next door, motioning for Xasha to wait, shrugging of his cloak as he walked, letting it drop to the floor. In the room, which looked as pitch dark as the passage they had just entered, Nescius rummaged around a little, before exiting, the door closing behind him, carrying a short sword in each hand. One sword he offered to Xasha, hilt first. It was remarkably light, obviously shining with the force magic that had been inlaid upon it at it's creation. It was about a meter in overall length, including the hilt, which could be used for a single or double handed grip. The other sword, seemed identical, except it was in a flimsy black sheath, which had a dangling belt attached. Nescius flicked the belt over his shoulder and tightened it over his black tunic, so the hilt stuck out at a slight angle over his back.

"Use the sword. Force me to draw mine," he instructed. Before Xasha had a chance to question it, before she could even react, he aimed a strong kick at her chest to send her reeling back towards the now closed door, as he retreated to the centre of the room.

As the strike swung across, Nescius allowed his legs to buckle. He dropped in a flash as the blade whipped harmlessly over his crouched form, his drop seamlessly moving into a counter, his right leg whipping around in a sweep designed either to knock her off her feet by taking her legs out, or force her out of range with her dodge. He said nothing, moving quickly, his movement fast and strong, both designed to impress upon the acolyte that she had a long way to go but it was attainable, and to force her to up her game.

The swipe was quick and true. Nescius had little time to be impressed, however, pushing off his left leg, using his right to guide his leap, away, the blade of Xasha's sword barely an inch from his back as he committed to the dodge. He barely had time to land, let alone counter, as he spun back to face the apprentice, the gap between them little over two meters. He would let her make the next move, she had to be the aggressor, she had to force his hand.
