I've been wanting to make a Grey Jedi faction for a freaking long time, but obviously there are some rules regarding dark side corruption and such, so I decided to make a proposal...

Why not have a faction where people who are outcasts to the Jedi Order can be a bit more free to do whatever they see fit. It can be optional to take part in the wars of Jedi or Sith, and we are free to do things that are morally grey (i.e. hunt down and assassinate Sith and other bad dudes, collect bounties on enemies of the republic, etc.). When it comes to Force powers, the Guardians of the Balance should stick to Jedi-type powers and no Sith stuff (i know it kinda sucks but rules are rules) to stop them from violating the 'Dark Side Corruption and You' guidelines.

I guess the Grey Jedi order would stick to being for Force Sensitives who don't see eye to eye with the council but aren't completely evil as well.

Anyway, so I'm just wondering what you all think? I know I've wished there was an official Grey Jedi order for a while, so I hope that I'm not the only one and we can make this thing official.

So... what's the point?

No offense intended, but I honestly don't see why this has a reason to exist. If you'll just be using the same powers for largely similar things, then why not just stay with the Jedi-Boiz? The Jedi hunt down Sith and other bad guys, and the Republic no longer exists to offer bounties. You could probably get some missions from resistance groups like Galaf and Guardian (@Fyremage), but if that's all you're really doing then you might as well be independent mercenaries or faction members.

Basically, I think you should stick with the Jedi. The two groups are almost entirely identical. If you want to keep going with the idea, you'll need to give it a new draw. The group i'd point to for inspiration are the Paladins of Mortis (@Oncaro), as they are a light side oriented force sect with an interesting draw and feel to it that separate it from the Jedi Order. Just being 'Diet-Jedi' won't cut it.

ugh. i hate that you're kinda right. but I feel like there should be a collective of those countless indie force-sensitives to give some of us an actual goal and some missions and such... I think that the grey jedi as a whole really needs to be a thing, but the Darkside corruption and you debacle really doesn't help... so bleh. i dunno. I feel like the grey jedi really could help in some of the things that are too out of reach for jedi (i.e. abolishment of slavery in outer rim planets, etc.) and just the ability to be free from the ever watchful eye of the jedi council. to be free. i guess that's the reason it should exist. no more rules about 'no emotions, no passion, no anger, no whatever'.

But.... those aren't things. Jedi are allowed to have emotions. The Jedi are, essentially, your definition of Grey Jedi. @Wit

Perhaps create the character with the story of them falling out of the jedi or whatever and kind of rp it out feel out if people want that and how exactly it could exist with some nice differences to allow it to be separate from the jedi. Nothing is wrong with seeing how it goes and then building the faction along the way sense you need five people to even apply for such and then it would give you a way to feel out the population on what they want and peek interest into it. the idea might take a whole different direction. I mean that is what I am doing with my new indie is feeling it out if no one ends up wanting to rise the faction i want its still apart of her story and mannerisms and she herself is unique and fun to play but i just wouldn't do the faction in the case or maybe as i rp stuff the idea may morph into something entirely new.

they are but they are frowned upon when they do and other Jedi know about it (i don't mean just plain emotions, i mean pure anger for the man who killed your mother, or whatever backstory the RPer comes up with). i mean, maybe i missed something, but unless this jedi order is a completely different one to the one in the movies, I'm pretty sure hate and anger and passion and fear and such are all frowned upon, at least a little bit (yes, i know its like a thousand years before but i think u see my point)... The Jedi are literally fuelled by peace, and lack of intense emotions. I mean Yoda himself said Hate leads to suffering...

It's not at all the Jedi order from the movies. @Wit or one of the other Jedi peeps (@Relent , @Valen Pelora , @Zenya ) can give you more information, but this order accepts stronger emotions, at least to my knowledge.

Just putting this here because I think it'd help.

@Jacob Eden Good luck with the faction idea, truly, if you do manage to swing a few hearts and minds around hit me up, I'd love to explore the deeper aspects of the philosophical side of the star wars universe.

"Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not. Attachment leads to jealously. The shadow of greed, that is.” he basically just said 'if your sister dies, so what?' so i mean that could totally put some people off.

....OK?

That doesn't change how the Jedi Order is this timeline. And if your basis for creating this faction is a false preconception of what the Jedi Order is like, it makes the justification for it existing that much weaker.

lol i don't freaking get this then, the lack of strong emotion is almost the point of a Jedi...

using the force for good is the basis for the jedi. this being in the earlier parts of history can easily cause many different things. Perhaps they haven't locked down so hard yet for the purpose of still evolving or even just being more tolerate due to being in the losing side currently. But yes I believe this jedi being early and given the times is more focused on the doing good bit rather than the 'Love is terrible no emotions or you will surely becoe dark corupt and destroy the universe' stuff

Maybe you should look up some information about the Jedi Order before trying to make a splinter group of them?
