"You measure the strong as being strong enough to survive," said Cain, "yet most people are strong in one field or another. And if they use that strength effectively, be it intelligence in a certain subject, proficiency with certain tools or anything for that matter, then you may have a point. But I would hardly want my rulers to be brutish oafs who have got power as they've managed to kill everyone else. I'd rather someone intelligent. Your way of thinking promotes tyranny, and I think most people can see the ills of that."
"You believe that those with only raw strength are strong? Being strong is not just about physical ability. Knowledge and intelligent is also strength. These cultists your students are fighting have the power of the Force, but that is useless if they don't have the knowledge to wield it correctly. They don't have the intellience to know when they are outmatched."

"To survive in this galaxy takes more than skill in the battlefield. The greatest warrior can be poisoned in his own home. One needs strength, cunning, knowledge, skill, and the will to use them if they wish to rise above the masses."

"No, I don't believe those with raw strength are the only who are strong, and if you'd listened you'd have realised," Cain said, a tone of ice creeping into his voice, "Every field and talent takes a degree of strength. Sometimes, strength away from a fight is the most important. A great fighter can die of old age, a great leader will live for eternity in the history books."

Blade clashed on blade. Light... silver light danced in the shadows. Death struck, another dark figure collapsed to the floor.

The man in the gray-orange robes had lost himself completely now. Immersed in the force, following its guidance. His blade flickered as if possesed, striking out about him.

Stone creaked. A pillar was severed... a thunderous crash as the dark figure rolled clear. A gasp as the waiting saber finished him...

Derek blinked slowly, staggering. A sudden burning was spreading up his side, and he began to feel warm, and dizzy. Frowning, he looked around. All of his enemies were dead... Putting his lightsaber away, he glanced at his side, and was met with a jarring rush of pain. There was a long, wicked, gash. He could feel the blood staining his robes now, and grimaced. He turned away, thinking he would return to his ship and try to contact his master, when he felt a fain whisper in the force.

It was his only warning.

A dark figure, hands wrinkled by age, shrouded in a black cloak, stepped out from its concealment up on a second story balcony. Its hands raised, and a burst of blue lightning Derek knew only too well erupted from them.

He smashed against the far wall, howling in pain as the wound on his side reopened. The lightning was burning him, unrelenting. He couldn't breathe....

Then suddenly, it had stopped, and the figure was approaching him. Derek could barely move, his whole body had seized up, and was burning with a dull ache. His vision was blurring...

He was sure he must be radiating the pain all over the planet.... Maybe, someone could help... him....

He couldn't die... here... not... now.....

The figure was smiling, the lower half of its face now visible. It was an old man, radiating dark power. Why didn't he just finish it?

Derek groaned... he couldn't... move....

*There was no reply. He had already come to the conclusion the this man could not comprehend his way of thinking. Thus there was nothing to gain by remaining here and speaking with him. Perhaps one of his pubils would be more inclined to listen.*

*Where his Force presence had once been, that cold crashing sea of darkness, suddenly vanished. Clearly he had been noticed only because he had wished to be. Now he was shielding his Force presence. Moving quickly, quietly through the night. Toward those who battled the cultists.*

All around Adrion the groups of Shades and cultists had disintegrated into a jumbled mess of steel, light, blood and death. Men cried out as they collapsed into death throes faces writhed in pain they died struck down by the ravages of force and blade. Adrion had fought the strong cultist and won the man had harnessed great power but failed to use it skillfully in a matter to defeat the seasoned knight. Now he ran through the battling groups assisting his fellows where he could. Just as he finished healing one of the fallen shades who had suffered a grim wound he felt a great dark presence silenced but from its void rose another to replace. Following his heightened senses he pushed towards this new presence removing any who dared oppose him from his path.

Entering a dark temple he followed a trail of bodies until at last he saw their creator a wounded padawon of the shade order who lay stricken by dark energy. By him Adrion saw the creator of the dark presence an old man radiating a malevolent darkness that choked the very air around him. Though the young shade needed medical attention his greatest risk would be this elder cultist "Leave the young one alone and face my blade if you have the steel old timer." Adrion was prepared to protect Derek with his life he just hoped the old man would face him instead of attempting to kill Derek.

Cain felt the impression snuff out, but felt no need to look for him. If this being felt he needed to hide from Cain, then he was fleeing, or up to no good. And given what he had felt from him before, he would have guessed the latter. And with his pupils about, Cain felt it his responsibility to remain vigilant. Out of the corner of his eye he saw the man slip off into the shadows. Cain trusted in the Force though, and he had confidence in his apprentices. This person was no real threat, especially with Cain about.

Derek heard the voice of the shade knight, cutting through the haze of pain. The old cultist said nothing but turned slowly to face the newcomer. His hands remained hidden in the depths of his sleeves.

Derek had to warn him... Pulling himself upright, reaching out to the force for strength... As he stood, he gasped.

"Be careful... he is... as powerful as Master Cain..."

The effort made lights explode in front of his eyes, but he forced himself to stand, and immersed himself in the force. As he was swept into the welcoming flow of thoughts and emotions, he felt the pain fade, and his saber flew to his hand, igniting with a sinister snap-hiss.

He would NOT die here.... not with so much left unfinished...

Cain felt the dire feelings from one of his followers from down in the shadows of the city. Quick as a flash he leapt towards where he felt it from. He kept his prescence shrouded and remained hidden in the shadows. He was close enough to help should they needed, but he wanted Derek and Adrion to fight and win themselves, they were both strong enough, Adrion especially. And for a padawan Derek was talented, without doubt. He had faith, but he chose to be on hand, just in case.

Ja saw Derek struggling to his feet, grabbing his lightsaber, but Ja hardly noticed the old man radiating dark power was his focus right now.

"Who the in the nine hells are you?" Ja asked incrediously as the man raised his hands shooting lightning from his fingertips slamming Ja into the far wall.

"I am the prophet. I have no need for your crude weapons." A smile tugged at the corners of the old man's mouth. He spoke, slowly, measuring each word. "Though you have made many mistakes.... you too might yet serve the darkness... you have that power in you.. I could make you great..."

His voice was deep, beguiling, promising power... untold knowledge and dark secrets were there in his voice...

"Shut up!" Derek leapt forward with a roar, a splatter of blood falling on the stone floor. He winced, but landed evenly, blade leveled. The old man sighed and swung a hand idly, throwing him backwards into a pillar.

Derek coughed, faint drops of blood hitting the floor. He stuggled to rise, his breath ragged, as the old man spoke again.

"You should not be so foolish boy. As you can see, I am the only way for you to truly become powerful... join me, and we shall do GREAT things..."

Derek shook his head weakly, his lightsaber still glowing within his hand.

Basilak had followed Ja away and he too came across Derek and cultists. But he had turned his lightsaber off.

"Back away from the Shadow. Don't allow this fool of a man get in your head." Basilak had crept around and made his voice seem everywhere. "Follow as Master Cain set forth and your name shall be forever known to history."

Basilak pulled his knife from it's sheath. "Allow me the pleasure of introducing you to your death."

((Just gota ask, a 17 year old Arkanian offshoot who is apprentice level is able to withstand a Master level Force Lightning?))

(you may have noticed, but he is getting his butt kicked. And yes, he is still standing only through the force.)

A laugh echoed from the old man's lips. "Do you truly think you can best me, minion? You should remove the blinders that your master has laid on you. See the force for the way it truly is... then you might share my power."

Derek tried to step forward, to attack again, but a racking cough shook him, his whole frame jerking. Blood splattered the floor, and Derek gave a rattling wheeze.

Slowly, oh so slowly, he fell backwards, to slide down the pillar, leaving a bloody smear on the stone. His hands clutched at his side, and he closed his eyes, trying to reach out to the force for strength.

The old man just laughed.

Derek was starting to fade, he could feel it... but... he would hold on, just a little longer...

Adrion quickly rushed to Derek's side gathering upon the force and letting it flow through the young mans body healing the damage within to the best of his skill. Looking down at Derek "Take a breather friend you've put yourself in a through hell." With venom in his voice he spoke to the older man. "You entice others with power yet you would kill the man before you had corrupted him a foolish way of recruiting for your cult don't you think?"

"He had to truly understand his weakness before he could see my power. As all of you now see my power... Besides, he refused to listen and thus paid the price."

Lightning flickered around his fingertips as he stood in the center of the room, waiting.

"Step away from the boy, he isn't going to die now. He needs to learn his lesson."

Derek gave up on standing up, and merely lay at the foot of statue, trying to let the force stop the bleeding he could still feel, as his vision became more and more blurry.

(I nearly said "Over his dead body!" and then picked your char up and used him as a shield.)

"Damned if I will" Standing in-front of Derek he stared the old man straight in the eye as he channeled the rage he felt over the harm caused to the Shade apprentice. His own hands immersed in a crackling nexus of electricity twitched slightly as he converted his emotions for the raw power needed for the force technique. "Try harming the kid one more time and you'll regret it."The strength and truth in his words were undeniable Adrion wasn't messing around.

The old man frowned. "It is true that you have power, but be wary of thinking you can match me."

His hands lifted, and lightning flickered at his fingertips. He waited.

"You have one last chance to join me, or you will all die."

(this guy is a force master. Really deadly. He's been goofing off up to now. So, strength in numbers if you want to take him down. My character is down for the fight.)

Basilak saw a moment of oppurtunity and jumped for it, literally. He jumped from his hiding spot, unleashed a medium strength force lightning burst, and pulled out his lightsaber at the same time. He was screaming like a maniac the whole time.

The old man stumbled backwards as he deflected the lightning away, a grimace on his face. Lightning burst from his fingers to fly towards Basilak. The old man was obviously off balance, but from the ferocity of his attacks, he was still dangerous.

Derek had lost so much blood... he was beginning to lose conciousness. He had little time left...

(the old geezer aint a pc. You are allowed to kill him you know, unless you want me to rp him all the way.)

((These guys are crazy cultists. I doubt they know Force powers in the sense we do and should be fairly easy kills for Knights, even if they are Masters of the cult))

From his hiding place, Cain felt sympathy for Derek. He was struggling, even with two Knights against the master. Looking around, he saw Basilak struggling against a burst of blue white electricity from the evil man. A little surprised one of neither Jedi or Shade origins was able to do that, Cain reached into the Force and blocked the man's throat. He squeezed down so he was in pain, and his onslaught stopped, but without revealing himself, he dropped his own attack a moment before the master would fall unconcious. He had weakened him, and his knights would both be occupied with him, so he then reached out to Derek and pushed the Force into him. With a combination of revitalisation and healing techniques, the best he could pull off at this distance without being seen, he ensured Derek would live, and more remain conscious.

Basilak got hit with the lightning, but he had control of his pain. He used it against the old man, creating more lightning and aiming at the old man. He walked ever closer as well. "Look into my eyes and see you death." Basilak lifted up the viel covering his eyes to show scarred face, no eyes, but a strange green fire where the eyes should have been.
