The Trials of Mastery are an ancient tradition of the Jedi Order, used at various times throughout history. The betrayals of the Hundred Years Darkness and the Rise of the First Sith have pushed the Jedi into action, and the Trials are once again returned to their place of sacred importance in the Order. Jedi Knights face great challenges every day, and when they believed they are ready, they must stand and be judged harshly by their would-be peers, ensuring that only the greatest Knights are entrusted with the title of Master.

---------

The shimmering blue-grey holographic bust of Councilor Rem Shivaaga flickered in the dimly lit chamber deep within the Jedha Temple. Kolto patches and respirator tubes shifted in and out of frame on the periphery of the image, clearly visible. The Chagrian Masters breathing was labored and raspy. He was still recovering from his wounds in a pressurized meditation chamber in his quarters, but this was the first Council of Masters convened to oversee a Trial of Mastery in over a century, and as the senior surviving member of the Jedi High Council, he did not intend to miss it. On either side of him would be his fellow High Councilors, Masters Wyck and Corliss, and on either side of them sat Masters Shai and Master Guleya, rounding out this council.

Before them today would stand Knight Kane. Shivaaga kept tabs on all those Knights and Masters who had joined his crusade against the scattered Exile menace, and knew that Kane had led a much more tumultuous life than most Jedi. The Council of Masters would have to determine how that life had affected to him- where he had failed, and more importantly what he had learned from that failure. The Knight was aged and experienced, but years alone did not make one a Jedi Master, as the venerable Wyck would say.

Rem nodded in greeting as the Knight was escorted in.

"Welcome, Knight Kane..." rasped, his voice distorted by both the hologram and the breathing apparatus strapped to his face, "It's good to see that... you haven't aged a day." The Councilor managed half a smirk before inspecting his former comrade intently and seriously, wishing he was there in person and relying on his fellow Masters to see and sense what he could not in this situation. "Seeing as you are here today on the strength of your credentials as a teacher... I must ask... How go your own studies?"

@Clayton (as Thalia Corliss) @Malon @Zigara @Nightfall096 @One For Sorrow

Master Shivaaga has begun the questioning. Kane should be the first to post, and then Vollen and Bruce can proceed with the Council in whichever way they choose. If any of the Masters require additional questioning or clarification or feel a need to interject while they examine Kane, they may do so. That said, lets try to keep things fairly short and sweet while evaluating the applicant so that this is not unnecessarily drawn out before we vote.

Kane bowed low to the assembled masters, and listened to Master Shivaaga speak. Chuckling at the venerable master's joke.

Thank you master Shivaaga, it is good to see you in such good health." he smirked slightly, though Kane did not know the extent of his injuries he considered the fact that master Shivaaga was not in a coma to be a modern miracle.

Kane looked around at the assembled council, half to guage their response to him firing a joke right back at the injured master, and half making a point to make eye contact with each and every one of them.

"My studies have been on hold briefly as I have been focusing more of my efforts on training my apprentice Tynian, however previous to my taking him on I was looking into balance and the potential to redeem the Exiles -or Sith as they have taken to calling themselves- I never got a chance to but I was planning on looking into the nature of Kyber crystals after recovering one from an Exile girl whom I convinced not to continue her path into darkness and instead join the Matukai. The crystal itself had only been mostly bled and still held a sliver of it's original color, it was my theory that we could use this to determine if a darksiders heart was truly dark." he explained.

"Pardon me masters, I appear to have begun to ramble." he apologized lightly. He was here to be evaluated and -if he was lucky- elevated to the rank of master, not to bore the council with his theories.

The image of Master Shivaaga was a hard one to see. Vollen has been there on Ossus, but had been unable to help the Master in his fight. Another of his own failings to add to the list he felt, though this was no time for introspection, at least, not primarily his own.

Invited now to apply the trials of mastery Vollen felt a new weight upon his shoulders, this ancient and sombre duty had now passed to him. It was a reminder of the weight of his own appointment, the realities and expectations of becoming a Master of the Jedi Order. He could not have known so many were there before he’d found himself in such a role, and indeed had felt unready for it at the time. Though the decision lay not with the knight but with the assembled council, as it did today. He’d grown into the role however, he felt at ease now in his place and purpose. The thought of judging someone to be in that same place was not one Vollen was entirely comfortable about. But that was part of role, and must be accepted and understood.

And so then now stood before him knight Kane, a venerable Jedi near double his age, who it seemed had seen much in his younger days in the Order, and stepped out of the shadows recently, his name on lips around Jedha. Listening to the man reply to Master Shivaaga made him perk up. The figure was soft spoken, with a ramble he even acknowledged (not that Vollen could speak there). It was clear he deeply enjoyed being a Jedi, but that was not enough alone,

“It seems most recently you have spent a great deal of time here on Jedha, Kane, a fitting home for a scholar especially now that Ossus is lost to us” Vollen was unused to the questioning tone he had seemingly come out with, unexpectedly even to himself he had begun to speak, but he felt there was no time to waste. As polite as pleasantries were, today had great purpose, and he felt it best to see it underway,

“And your service during the Darkness does you credit. Though there are few Jedi still with us who did not fight in the war, see its horrors, and feel its losses” Vollen too had been one of those who had lost so much to the Exiles, he knew it could shape a great deal of a person,

“What makes you distinguished in how you served? In what you have done since?” Vollens face had grown serious. He meant no disrespect in his questioning, Kane surely would understand. But such things must be asked, and in his mind he knew the trials, and what he aimed to discover. This question aimed to reflect the trial of the flesh. And so, Vollen waited intently for an answer.

"Well master Shai, during my time as a crusader on the front lines I had an apprentice. That apprentice was killed by the Exiles and to be perfectly honest I still feel like his death was my greatest failure. However, I do not hold onto that and met it cloud my judgement. It took some time but I realize now that it was the will of the force, the death of that boy -though a loss for the order- does not have any detrimental effects to my training of Tynian. Who I might add is progressing at an impressive rate."

Kane paused for a moment in his answering, both to give the assembled masters time to digest the long winded first part ofnhis answer and to focus himself on the second part.

"As for what distinguishes me in how I serve now, I believe I am one of few Jedi these days who simultaneously understands that there is in fact a need to fight the enemy AND a need for us to understand them. Perhaps the latter is less true now with the emergence of this Sith Empire, however for a time the Exiles were simply a ragtag group of those who turned to the dark side and left the order. Their ranks even now are bolstered by some of those who were once considered the finest Jedi in the order. I believe that the knowledge of their origins and the acceptance of the fact that many of them were once Jedi may be key in besting them, and perhaps even redeeming others. If I could I would drag each and every one of our fallen brethren back into the light myself."

The old Sentinel was unsure if his answers would be deemed satisfactory, his whole life he never really thought of himself as distinguished from any other Jedi. He simply served as he saw fit.

"I suppose my believing in the possibility of redemption for darksiders sets me apart from the vast majority of the order, wether for better or for worse is perhaps a matter of individual opinion. However as I previously stated the Kyber crystal I recovered and gave to the late councillor Dan'ela that retained the sliver of it's original color confirms that it Is possible that at least some darksiders can -and perhaps want to- be saved."

Kane shifted slightly, crossing his hands in front of himself as he awaited the next question. He was curious how he was doing so far in his trials and wished that one of the council members would indicate how he was scoring, however he knew thisnwas unlikely.

Jedi Master Bruce Guleya was starting to actually be part of the Masters within the Order. He had been called upon by the high council to join the Master's Council along with other Jedi Masters. Bruce was brought here today to Jedha to fulfill his new duties. Bruce sat in a chair just off to the side of Master Wyck, this wasn't his first time being in good company but Bruce wasn't accustomed to being in such high company; he had never interacted with the High Council until this day.

Bruce was not unaccustomed to overseeing such a situation though, he had grown up living in the gaze of the royals on Bardotta. He was part of the advisors, so to speak, but he wasn't considered an actual advisor, instead he had just witnessed and continued in the shadows of the masters, so this wasn't entirely alien to him, but even so it still made him nervous and sort of uncomfortable to begin with. But as the Knight to be judge was brought before the council, Bruce's feelings changed and he started to sink right into the duty he had been given, to fulfill the honourable wishes of the Order. This was a test to him, a test he didn't take lightly and a test he would think long and hard about before finalizing a decision. Soon, the test began as the first set of questions would be asked and the first interactions began.

Knight Kane.
An older gentleman; one decades older then the bardottan master himself. While he had not been formally introduced or followed the man's career, Bruce knew of the name and that he was becoming a well respected teacher within the temple. The Order needed teachers, but they needed more then that as well. It was curious to the Master, to see such a nonchalant attitude between him and Master Shivaaga, but that didn't mean anything to Bruce; in fact it provided him a sort of comfort to see that the relationships that bind were alive.

The question to be asked was a question of distinction. Bruce watched closely as the Knight answered the question he was posed, as the Knight spoke his answers Bruce wasn't simply watching visually and physically what was going on, but he was also digging into the man with the Force to monitor the emotions and feelings being broadcasted. A person can lie through physicality but the lie through the Force was a bit more of a challenge. He monitored him as he answered, noting the things the old scholar sought; Bruce a scholar himself felt excited and proud of the man as he demonstrated the desire to preserve and to study. These were things the Jedi seemed to forget in times of conflict.

When the Knight finished speaking, Bruce chimed in with the next set of questions. "Knight Kane, your passion is duly noted and I would be excited to sit down and discuss your findings and teachings going forward. For the Jedi need to explore such avenues if we are to rebuild and reinforce. However, while your studies are important we cannot bank completely on such. You mentioned your previous apprentice, one slain by the Exiles. You claim it felt as if a large failure to you, correct? We can appreciate your feelings and we can understand that you do not dwell and allow to cloud. However, you've decided to step back from it all, your reasons are various I am sure. But, as a Master you will need to bring yourself out from the shadows and back into the light - returning to the frontlines, with or without your apprentice. While enduring such a new role you will of course understand and will bare witness to more deaths - ours and theirs. If a single apprentice made you feel like a great failure, how would additional losses? What if your current apprentice, Tynian were to fall? What if you make an Order as a General and that order results in additional losses?" Bruce narrowed his eyes as he leaned forward in the chair, his questions weren't meant to be seen as attacks or accusations of the Knight but rather he wanted to allow Kane to process additional realities that he no doubt already knew. Bruce took a moment to allow his words to linger before he choose to continue.

"Knight Kane, considering these, what would you do? How would you be able to process such decisions?"

It was a scenario Bruce was presenting. Master Guleya wanted to see the Knight's thought process and to see if he would illicit and sort or emotional response as he presented the possible situations. Bruce needed to see, despite his history and his experience, how he prepared to deal with things he may have already witnessed or thought about.

Bruce remained leaning forward to indicate to Kane that he had his full attention and he truly was listening and truly that he cared.

"I feel that I should clarify master Guleya. Though that apprentices death weighed on me for a time and was the greatest failure of my career, I do not consider myself a failure. After a reasonable period of mourning I realized that it was a learning opportunity, and that I could use what I learned to perhaps ensure I do not fail in such a way again."

Kane meant no disrespect and maintained a calm, level and respectful tone. He simply felt that this was a time for absolute clarity in what he said, to properly judge his worthiness of the title he sought the council would need to understand exactly where he was coming from and what he meant.

The old Sentinel stroked his beard for a moment as he pondered master Guleya's questions, they were harder to answer due to their situational nature. Kane could feel the probes from the master as he felt for any duplicity in the old Jedi's answers, a precaution that -though unnecessary- he had to admire. A liar had no business being a master to anyone, and Kane understood well the need to rule out any duplicity. Kane was also grateful for the masters shift in posture, how intently master Guleya was listening actually put him slightly more at ease.

"As for my ability to be in a frontline position, I believe myself to be ready for such tasks. To be perfectly honest I have been wanting to involve myself more in such things, I had been part of the team with Knight Shryke aiming to found a new temple on Teth. I have recently spoken to Dune Tarn about continuing this quest and intend to see it through to the end. As a General I feel that I would make the best descision for the situation, and now I feel that if that descision leads to additional losses I will have weighed all the options prior and in doing so would be confident that it was still the best descision I could make at the time. That is not to say that I would not mourn the losses when an appropriate time came to do so, simply that in a situation such as that I will be confident in my descisions and not let losses stop me from moving forward and completing a mission so long as there was a path to continue on."

Kane then thought on the last part of master Guleya's questions that he had left to answer, how would he handle Tynians death if it came before his own.

"As for the possibility of Tynian falling, I have readied myself for this. Before any mission with Tynian I have meditated and come to terms with the possibility that we may not both return. I also do my best to test and push him farther while not putting him in a situation I do not believe him to be ready for."

A few moments after Kane answered he realized that master Guleya may have had a different type of fall in mind.

"I have also considered the possibility of him falling to the dark side, ever since I met with him on Ossus and was deciding if I would train him. Though I do not believe him likely to fall in that way, I have also come to accept that a young boy could be tempted. If that were to happen I would try to bring him back to the light, If i failed in that I would do my best to bring him before the council and if necessary we could strip him of his force abilities. Failing in capturing him would of course unfortunately mean his death. No matter what I will NOT let that bpy become a Sith."

Kane knew his words were harsh, however he had put much thought into this. Though he truly did not believe Tynian would ever be tempted by the dark side.

Many thoughts ran through Vollens head now as Kane finished his answer. The man had determination this was true, but there something Vollen had to ask,

“Such things are always uncertain to us, even with our best intentions, Knight Kane” Vollen said, as he lifted his eyes from the floor. He had been lost in consideration, turning the mans answer over in his head,

“Self-assurance is fine, but careful it does not border on stubbornness, nor pride” such worries were constant concerns of the Order. Their abilities made them strong, yes, abilities to alleviate the suffering of others. Arrogance could soon follow, and so a Jedi had to reassess himself constantly, hold true to such goals without falling too far into them,

“Indeed, it would seem as if you fear nothing, not totally. That, despite any wrongs or failings, you would be able to stop them before it might slip too far away” his tone was stern, though calm. The trials were not simple, nor were they straightforward. Such tests were meant or challenge, so he reminded himself. And so, looking Kane in the eyes, and reaching out to him in the force, feeling for the mans intentions and answers, he spoke,

“Would that be true, Kane, do you fear nothing?”

Master Vollen Shai's questions were not surprising, Kane had indeed come accross a little overconfident in his answers to master Guleua's questions -even to himself-. He was therefore grateful when master Shai gave him the opportunity to rectify this, weather that was the masters intent or not Kane would try.

"No not at all master Shai. I do not fear nothing, as nobody should. However I am well aware that the path to the dark side begins with fear -as are most Jedi- and that it is an emotion that needs to be treated with the utmost care and respect lest it become anger, then hatred, then suffering. As we know it oft does. I do have my fears, as do we all. However I have come to terms with my fear and do not let it rule me."

Kane hoped his explanation to be satisfactory. Fear had always been a touchy subject among the Jedi, even more so ever since the discovery of the dark side and the fall of the Exiles.

"I can assure you masters that my self assurance is by no means a lack of fear, merely the knowledge that fear can be overcome. As for wrongs or failings, I am always willing to admit that I may be wrong. I admit even that on occasion I can be a little stubborn, however I would never allow that trait to become a risk to those under my command or supervision. And I do know that my being wrong or failing to make the correct descision could very well lead to the failure of a mission, and if such a situation arose where my descision could have caused such a failure I would have to admit that I had failed and fall back. Weather that falling back would be to regroup and begin anew or simply to give up the fight would have to depend on the factors causing the failure and -ultimately- the will of the council."

Kane knew that master Shai had the best intentions for the order in his questions, and he knew that he had mistakenly portrayed himself as someone with no fear or respect for the emotion itself. His attempt to recover from this was solifly done in his opinion, but it was of course not his opinion that mattered in these trials.

He dared not hope for an easy question frim the assembled masters, for this was not an easy matter and a question that could be perceived as easy would undoubtedly turn out to be a question that would test him beyond measure and likely have no room for error.

Thalia had been silent for the most of the tests. She had found herself surprisingly content to simply sit and listen to what Kane had to say in response to some very difficult decisions. Yet, she chose this moment to spoke as it seemed to be leading to a topic that troubled her. "Knight Kane, your dedication to the tutelage of a Padawan is commendable. It is the wise and temperate guidance of a master that will, in the end, allow a Padawan to resist the allure of the Dark Side when it does come calling. However, that may not happen for a long time yet. The Dark Side is clever and dangerous. Like a snake it can wait until the right time to strike. Many in our Order, Masters included, have experienced this long after they've left the ranks of Padawan or even Knight. Our behaviors, the actions we take, the choices we make...they all lead down a path that forks many times over. The progression can sometimes be so slow it seems like just a natural path to take. I've seen that when our attention is focused on an enemy, we can sometimes be blind to the subtle things that harm a fellow master in their journey with the Light. How can you mediate this balance? What can you do to not only fight the Sith, which are a threat that grows only stronger, but also watch out for our own Masters or Councillors that are in moral peril?"

Bruce had shifted his posture back, now resting comfortably in the chair while Master Shai spoke to the Knight. The question being presented made sense, while fear would often be viewed as a gateway to the dark side, Bruce knew that fear could also make someone stronger. The Knight’s response amused the Bardottan Master as he listened - which wasn't a bad thing - but one thing would be certain; there would be no indicators of Bruce's observations. His eyes fall to the other Masters assembled to see their reactions. As Bruce looked the Masters over, it was when there Master Corliss spoke up, her chance to add to the trial. The question being asked was a very good question and the Bardottan quickly turned his attention to the Knight before them.

He didn't mean to be rude, but a question that paired nicely with the councillor's request came to mind, “If I may add councillor Corliss, I must ask this Knight the question we oddly have forgotten to present to him. We all know one thing, age does not indicate any level of experience or power - for you could be as timeless as the Honourable Master Wyck and lack a certain level of control, or experiences. In contrast you could be as young as Knight Jon Atreides - or younger -but have undeniable control of the Force and been through outrageous events in one's life. There is no true degree. With this in mind, why is it you approach us on this day requesting to be recognized as a Master? Surely someone with your years and length of teachings has no need for such a title. Because it is just that, a title, nothing more.” Of course the Jedi Master didn't actually think that. “In fact, what if this council deems it so, you do not receive this title. What then?”

Bruce was leaning forward nonchalantly. His arms resting on his knees while his hands were joined together in front of him.

The Bardottan listened to the Knight as he answered both himself and Councillor Corliss, but Bruce displayed no reactions to what had been said, he simply made eye contact scrutinizing each and every word as they reached his ears. He needed a moment to think about his next line if questions that would be inspired by this man's response to the simple question being presented.

"Well Councillor Corliss, that is a very hard question. Almost as hard to ask as it is to answer I would imaging considering recent events regarding so many of our brightest taking the wrong turn at the forks you mentioned."

Kane began after both masters had posed their questions, he had not been expecting master Guleya's question to come at the same time but he would do his best to answer both properly.

"That said, and as you said. Every descision a Jedi -any Jedi- makes each day is a move in the fight against the dark side. Weather or not we know that we are moving one way or the other I have always believed that we are in a constant state of change. My own personal philosophy is that one should make at least two descisions that are one hundred percent in the light for every darker descision they are forced to make. I hold no illusions that we can all always make the choice that leads is farther into the light, having fought on the front lines taught me that there is not always going to be a good or even right descision, simply one that is less wrong than all the others. I believe that we have to go through these harder descisions to continue getting to ones where there IS a right choice. The path to the light is not always lit."

The old Sentinel paused for a moment to let his words settle on the assembled masters while he thought of how to word what he was going to say, at this point he felt he had at least half answered the question posed by the councillor and he wanted to make sure he got what was in his head into words in a way that it would make sense to those who did not know him.

"As for mediating these choices, I have never been shy to tell someone when I believe they are in the wrong. I know sometimes this can lead to hurt feelings and bruised egos but as we all know a Jedi is not supposed to have the latter. I would mediate these just moments as others went through them the same way I mediate them writhin myself, and remind whoever was going through that struggle that sometimes even though there is no good choice a choice has to be made regardless."

Kane then turned fully to master Guleya to properly answer his question, making eye contact with the Bardottan master as he had been with every master he answered directly.

"As for your -very valid- question master Guleya, I would do little different than I do now if I were not to be granted the rank of master. Save of course to strive to become worthy of the rank regardless of whether I would ever hold it. Perhaps I would re-apply for the rank and undergo these trials again, perhaps I would remain content to do my duties as a knight. As for my age, I do realize that most Jedi who intend to seek the rank of master are much younger when they do. However it has only been recently that I feel I am ready for that role within the order. All of you are of course the best among our ranks, and it would not only be an honor to sit amongst you. But I feel that as a master I would have the ability to really impact things and help the order grow.

The battery of questions continued, as they must of course, and Master Guleya and Master Corliss probed Kane well. The knight shared much, indeed, such reflections only set Vollen into such a mood of his own. Sat upright in the chair, he had long since closed his eyes, listening, feeling his way through the meeting. The loss of one sense only sharpened the others, including his force senses as they reached over the knight under consideration, sharing with Vollen his presence in the force.

For everything the man said, Vollen sensed honesty. Good. Lying before such a council would be a sure way to one's prospects crumble before them, and he knew at least he himself would have trouble if they were to be paired together, knowing they had. But there was more in the mans responses that Vollen would respond to yet,

"It would only then be a worry where we cannot be certain our decision sits within the light. The darkness is insidious at times, as Master Corliss said, even our best intentions may be warped. We cannot always be sure our good outweighs the bad" he offered in reply "But to attempt to is sometimes enough" He finished. But the end of Kane's reply sparked something in him, a memory of what he himself had been asked by his peers. It felt only right he ask it here, in light of the response given,

"And so how do you intend to do this Knight Kane, to grow, impact the Order?" Certainly there was much to be done, but what did the man have in mind.

Master Shai had been listening intently, so Kane was unsurprised when it was him who spoke next. The old Sentinel WAS however surprised that the master seemed to flat out agree with him, not an occurrence he had expected.

"Indeed, I believe that sometimes the attempt to do good can counteract the not necessarily great choice in itself."

He said in responce to the first statement made by master Shai. Then on to the question of how he would help the order grow, what kind of impact he expected to have on the order itself would likely be a major deciding factor in weather or not he was to be made a master.

"As for my intention to help the order grow. I believe that both with the losses of many of our Jedi -both knights and masters- to death and the dark side, we need to work on a rapid expansion. We need new temples on different planets and to rebuild ones that have been destroyed like Ossus. I know this desire for expansion may seem agressive, however I believe it to be the best course of action for not only the growth, but the survival of the order. Especially now with the Exiles forming this Sith Empire and attacking and conquering world after world, the galaxy needs the Jedi. And we need to be strong enough to defend them."

Kane stood straight backed, his hands clasped behind his back as he calmly spoke of his ideas. He was no ferverous zealot, and he knew it would be hard to achieve what he had said.

"I know this is not an undertaking that can be done overnight, and I know that no matter what is to be done to expand the order it will be a long and arduous process. However, the longest journey starts with just one step."

Kane was confident in his answer here, however he thought his last statement to be important to show that he was not power crazy or reckless. He also could feel several of the masters constantly probing with the force to detect any duplicity and knew that what he could not confer with words would be transmitted to them regardless.

Councilor Shivaaga watched the entire proceeding with great interest. This experiment had gone so much better than he could have hoped- the younger and fresher Masters of the Order were rising to the occasion, and doing so much to ensure they made well informed and thoroughly vetted decisions regarding its future. He was also aware of Knight Kane's role in all this- it was surely difficult to be the first Knight in over a century to be subjected to this type of scrutiny. It was a difficult test, and Kane had comported himself well. Rem eyed his counterparts one by one as the questioning drew to a natural conclusion. It was time.

"Thank you, Knight Kane..." Rem rasped through the holoprojector, "This Trial marks a new era... for the Order... Your part in it is no small thing... Please, excuse us while we deliberate."

*****

"Knight Kane..." Councilor Shivaaga began seriously as the Council reconvened, "Though you are upon the right path... The Council of Masters has decided that you are not yet prepared, for the title of Master..." He let his words sink in before continuing, knowing they may be difficult to hear, although he trusted that Kane was strong and would quickly come to terms with the decision. "Your dedication to teaching and guiding our young is admirable, and you bring great value to the Order... However, do not let that dedication keep you from the greater Galaxy. There is much wisdom beyond these walls..." Rem sucked for breath through his breathing apparatus before continuing, his burnt finger rising into frame to wag admonishingly at the elderly Knight, "More concerning, a Master should never rationalize Darkness... Too many have tried, only to be corrupted by the Dark Side..." The Councilors tone softened, and he smiled with his eyes, his mouth hidden by the breathing apparatus, "If the path before you is not lit, you may have to light it yourself."

"We look forward to seeing you again soon, Knight Kane."

Kane bowed low as Councillor Shivaaga finished speaking.

"Thank you councillor, I shall keep that in mind as I continue serving the order."

He kept his voice pleasant and level, it stung a little to have failed in this test but he understood why he did so. He was now resolved to become somewhat harder, and perhaps even take up the mantle of Crusader once more.

"I thank you for your time and consideration masters, and I shall strive to better myself to become worthy of joining your ranks."

He would wait a few moments in case any of the other masters wished to say anything before he left the council chambers.
