I see it as nothing more than "Singles awareness day". If you don't have a boyfriend/girlfreind, it happens to be the most depressing time of the year, or at least for me.

If i'm single over Valentines day (which i'm not this year for the first time ever! yay! (Most dump me before for some reason...)), then i just ignore it as another day. I see no point in letting it get to me.

Why is it depressing? Don't got a girlfriend, go out and get one. It's not that hard, especially when you're young, there's a lot of immature girls out there who just think it's "cool" to be "dating" somebody. For real couples who love each other, Valentine's Day is just like any other day, because of the cheesy line "I don't need a reason to give you gifts,".

Valentines day is great when you can get into clubs because you have a myriad of lonely girls without a man looking for fun. This year I've got a bird though, God she's great, completely supportive, caring and non-judgemental, everything you'd want in a partner.

Valentine's Day is possibly the worst "Holliday" of the year. Its just an excuse to buy crap just to show who ever your boyfriend or girlfriend that you love them. And if you dont got one, its still dumb.

Over all economy? No. But this is the busiest time for many, many businesses, because we have stressed you need to buy buy buy to show affection, which is stupid.
