So something curious has happened. I decided to watch the teaser again, from youtube and on my tablet, and it somehow looked much better, than it did via the itunes feed. The shots blended together much better, and stuff like the X-wing cockpit, that originally looked cheap, suddenly went intense for me.

I hate that the dumb lightsaber was practically a focal point of the trailer, that worries me too in terms of the direction they're taking.

I'm going to have to disagree with Keab for the time being. What if the Force wielder is going for the holy crusader vibe? And he built his lightsaber to reflect that, essentially being an extension of himself. Maybe he was part of some cult that mimicked ancient warriors who used long-swords as their main weapons.

Of course we just have to wait and see. The Directors could just be adding a little more spice to the movie.

As for the black cloak, I don't mind because he's in a forest.

Although it looks like the quality of a fan film, I liked everything but that ****ing dumb lightsaber.

Also, that's a shit load more CG than I expected but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

But yeah, black cloak with another stupid red lightsaber is disconcerting.

soccerball droid was cheesier than the lightsaber.

Droids come in all shapes and sizes though.

Well, if Dooku had crossguards, his hands wouldn't have been cut off by Anakin.

And I bet that blade's instability is due in part to those crossguards.

But we're talking about plasma swords here. It isn't hard science or anything.

Welp, just confirmed. The trailer in general just looks better on youtube for some reason, compared to itunes. I dunno, maybe its to do with how quicktime plays video?

Sure, from a narrative standpoint you can justify the inclusion of just about anything, my problem is with the actual concept itself. We know nothing of its potential implementation, we know nothing beyond the aesthetic, which I believe is trite. You can make up whatever shit you want, my problem is that we have another black cloaked evil dude with a gimmicky red lightsaber to add to the thousands that have already come up in the franchise.

It's dumb.

One notion I've read that I wouldn't mind I guess but it's still sort of lame, is that it's not simply a cross guard, but the lightsaber itself is unstable and those are actually exhaust vents allowing it to function. That's kind of alright by me.

soccerball droid was cheesier than the lightsaber.

I disagree actually, he's silly and he looks far less industrial than he should as part of this universe, but I wasn't put off by his conclusion tbh.

As a guy who really likes the armors of the storm and clone troopers: I was drawn in by Boyega's look-around, but then I was put off by the design of the rear half of the trooper armor. I think that adequately describes how I felt about this teaser. It has things that are genuinely interesting, but then something about it just doesn't feel Star Wars.

Tumbledroid.

I find myself agreeing that that newer light saber looked... stupid. Unnecessary beams on the handle. So unnecessary.

It's unnecessary...unless you value your fingers. Honestly hilt guards aren't exactly unimportant for a sword, considering they're the only thing that keeps an opponent from sliding their blade down along your own and cutting off your digits.

On a lightsaber though I feel conflicted. It was already in existence before this trailer for sure. A more obscure part of the extended universe that I'm glad to see is being used. But at the same time, I do feel the design if not done right will look quite stupid.

Discussing the general framing of everything... the trailer seems like its having its various elements, save the Falcon, in search of something. Likely unrelated in the film itself, but the impression seems made - with the lightsaber wielder the one then going 'come out and face me' by drawing his weapon. Makes me think of the theory that's been floating around regarding Luke.

I ******** loved the trailer. Every minute of it, from the trooper to the dumb looking saber.

Then again, I'm still sad they are taking a huge dump in my dear expanded universe and kicking it away like it never happened.

Am I the only one thinking that the crossguards, while kinda tacky looking make a lot of sense?? They're not impractical as some people have said in here.

You're the only one, but it's still impractical and dumb.

How is it impractical?

He presumably means the gap in the cross guard that is still metal, and thus, a vulnerable point. On the other hand, that gap would let someone have their hand up to the guard without it being seered off like if it were all saber edge. We'll have to see how the fight choreography plays it - ie, if people should be rightly able to aim straight for it, or if the owner's fighting style makes that too difficult.
