With the concept, they (we) could use the gunships. Make it seem like the Chiss had hidden some ships from the Hutts and the faction stole the gunships instead of having a frigate and corvettes. Light craft seem perfect for this idea.
It's a shame the Chiss aren't getting love anymore. I had an idea of unarchiving Kith'raku'arius and forming the Chiss Coalition: a faction dedicated to reforming the Ascendancy by eliminating the defunct Chiss Ascendancy and removing the ones that caused the fracture of the Ascendancy. But I doubt anyone would join. (The faction would have 1 frigate and 3 corvettes but would have two other facilities) what do you think? (I'm a big fan of the Chiss and want to see them return)
I figure that the insurgency'd be supplied by a mix of smuggler, sympathizers inside MandalMotors (which, essentially, occupies every single manufacturing facility on Kuat at the moment), and by good old-fashioned theft of Imperial supplies.
Insofar as why the planet wouldn't be glassed, it's both of immense strategic value as a major shipyard world, and with General Sev in more or less overall command of the Imperial Military there won't be any more glassings of civilian targets. He'd rather let a planet break away than watch billions upon billions of souls perish under turbolaser barrages - could even make a thread of it, where he throws out an Imperial governor calling for the planet to 'be glassed and forgotten' or some such, to drive that point home.
I didn't think you'd do it, it's a silly reason to quit but I've seen people do it before... Anyhow glad to hear it. And if it's any consolation, I'm with you on this one. I mean I got what kind of terrain you were going for, just a battlefield with some personality to it, but obviously people's opinions differ. Anyhow, just watched Pulp Fiction... no particular reason for bringing that up, just felt like sharing.
