A conversation in the caf

[Keinushi]

Kiara sat alone in the caf, drinking some Kaf as she ate a traditional corellian lunch. Nerf burgers. She was halfway through hers as she scrolled on her datapad.

 

[Kian Te'el]

Kian entered the caf and scanned the inhabitants. He was looking for the Jedi Kiara, who was also being trained by the Jedi Cath. He had set out to get to know her other padawans and had heard from others at the temple that this was where Kiara liked to go for food.

Kian walked over to her and when he got to the table lowered his grey hood off of his head. "Jedi Kiara?" he asked clasping his hands in front of him. He had cleaned up before coming here, so that he would make a better impression. Lucky for him he was able to get better looking robes off of the Jedi at the temple, so that he no longer looked so...poor. He wore a dark grey tunic and pants, with a black belt, from which his grey/black lightsaber hilt hung, and a matching grey robe overtop.

 

[Keinushi]

[[she's in the temple caf, as in cafeteria]]

"We are al jedi here," Kiara said lazily . "Jedi-?"

 

[Kian Te'el]

"Te'el," Kian said bowing his head as a sign of respect, "I have recently begun my training with Jedi Cathbodua, who I believe is you master as well. I thought it would be a good idea for us to get to know each other." Kian had not offered his hand, as he had found that some humans were not comfortable touching an alien species, and he wanted to ensure he did not insult.

"May I join you?" Kian asked indicating the empty chair with his taloned hand.

 

[Keinushi]

"If you must." Kiara said not looking up from her datapad. "So did cath scare off your former master too, or did she just choose you from the classes?"

 

[Kian Te'el]

Kian took a seat and eyed the human curiously.

"I had no master to be scared off. I've only just arrived at the academy." Kian said waiving away a serving droid that had started their way.

"Does Jedi Cath often scare away padawans masters?"

 

[Keinushi]

"Wouldn't know." Kiara shrugged. "Just got here myself." She finally looked up at the other padawan.

 

[Kian Te'el]

"Where are you from?" Kian asked, curiosity getting the better of him. He looked around the cafeteria as he spoke, watching the other padawans eating and talking with each other. It felt nice here.

 

[Keinushi]

"Corellia." Kiara said taking another bite from her burger.

 

[Kian Te'el]

"Interesting" Kian said and leaned back in his chair. He didn't know what to make of the Jedi in front of him. She seemed dismissive, but he had difficulty reading human body language.

 

[Keinushi]

Kiara raised an eyebrow. "Was there something you wished to discuss?"

 

[Kian Te'el]

Kian liked seeing all the people in the caf. Among the Baran Do sages, the temple often felt overly empty. Years of hiding from the empire, and the suspiciousness with which his people treated the outside world had left to a decay in their numbers.

Turning his attention back to Kiara he smiled, "Not particularly, I just wanted to get to know you. As both being padawans with Jedi Cath, I thought it would be better to know each other now, in case we were thrust into a mission together."

 

[Keinushi]

"Neat," Kiara said taking another bite. "Why don't you start. Tell me about yourself."

 

[Kian Te'el]

"Of course," Kian said and took a moment to gather his thoughts, "I am not sure how familiar you are with Kel Dor, but like most I was born on Dorin, our homeworld. I was born into a familiy of," Kian paused again, wondering how best to put it. His family was very poor, but he didn't like saying it that way as it seemed to ellicit pity from some and he didn't want pity. "...of working class," Kian said, though in truth his father rarely worked.

"On Dorin, I began my training at a young age with the Baran Do, alongside my sister Dar. Her training was never complete however, as she killed an apprentice there in anger and fled the academy. I don't know where she is now...But I did continue and finish, and once I had I came here."

 

[Keinushi]

"By working class you mean low class?" Kiara took another bite from her burger. "You mean a poor family."

 

[Kian Te'el]

"Yes." Kian said nodding and smiling. It was refreshing dealing with straightforward humans. He had found, through his limited exposure to humans, that many were not as straightforward and rather jumped around the subject.

 

[Keinushi]

"Never be ashamed of your roots." Kiara said finishing off her burger. "My parents killed each other. Not my fault, I made something of my life. You will too."

 

[Kian Te'el]

"I'm not ashamed of them, for if it weren't for them, I wouldn't be where I am. I just have little experience dealing with humans and..." Kian thought of the words he was looking for, "haven't learned the social etiquette yet." Kian said. Kel Dor's were very straight forward, black and white kind-of-people, but had found that that approach alienated some.

"Please, tell me more about yourself?" Kian said, interested in learning more about her.

 

[Keinushi]

"Well," kiara started. "My parents killed each other in a drunken rage. After that my next door neighbor raised me. I went to a private school, then got selected to join here. and that's pretty much it."

 

[Kian Te'el]

Kian considered this for a moment and then said, "I can't imagine that was easy to deal with."
