This was not a good idea

The thought kept rolling around in Telly Udon's mind as his fingered hovered over the "send transmission" button on his ship's holoprojector.

The Hutt Cartel had formally declared war on the Empire and what to do about it was plaguing the Pau'an Resistance leader. Of course, Nor'baal was not doing it out of any sense of righteousness - the slug saw weakness and opportunity. And, Telly suspected that the oppression under his reign would be similar to those under Sith or Imperial rule.

But that didn't mean there wasn't something to be gained from all this. Telly saw it as a calculated gamble. Either the Empire wiped out the Cartel, which meant that Nor'baal wouldn't be a problem in the future and the Imperials would have wasted precious time, resources and money stamping them out. That could open up a lot of possibilities for Telly and his resistance cells.

Alternatively, the Cartel could end up winning. If nothing else, the Cartel leadership might be a dictator but one without Force sensitives bolstering their ranks and far less military discipline. If Telly had to pivot enemies in the future, he very well might have an easier time fighting Nor'baal versus fighting the Empire. And, of course, there was the 0.00001 percent chance that Nor'baal may actually be good for the galaxy.

Probably not but who knew? Plus there was the chance that both factions took each other out. It was a risk worth taking. Telly hit send and sent a holoprojection of himself to Nor'baal's Tatooine palace.

"Greetings powerful Nor'baal. My name is Telly Udon. I'm with the Resistance. I believe we share a common enemy."

This was, unexpected.

Nor'baal was woken up by his Majordomo to find that he had an incoming holocall. And from who else but a self-proclaimed rebel! The Hutt was perplexed from the off, unsure as to what could be gained from speaking to a 'freedom fighter', yet his curiousity got the better of him, and he decided to accept it anyway.

Soon, Udons image would be projected into Nor'baals throne room, and the great Hutt would listen to what the man had to say. A common enemy? The alien must have meant the Empire. He nodded <Indeed. But tell me exactly, why should that commonality be of any interest to the Clans?> he asked, cutting to the case.

"Your forces are vast but so are the Empire's. You both need allies. I'm a veteran of the Galactic Civil War. The Clone Wars too and because of that, I know that the key to victory often lies in unexpected allies. If Emperor Palpatine was still around, you could ask him how ignoring the native Ewoks on Endor worked out for him." Telly answered the Hutt with his signature diction and perfect posture that centuries of etiquette school and military training had forced upon him.

"But he's not. I am. I'll be frank. I don't want to trade one dictator for another. If you want to invade an Imperial planet, only to take it over yourself, I can't help you. But if you're looking to sabotage Imperial shipyards, take out Imperial Knights, or make certain enemy generals disappear, I can offer you my help. Does this strike you as a deal worth pursuing?"
