A long time ago, in a place far away, before the peak of power, it was just another day, if so very different in this distant landscape. Verdant forests, brown trees covered in green crowns, as deep in the earth as the sea perched further at the flanks, golden sand on the banks, curling inward. They can't be seen from one person's position.

One might wonder how warm her toes might feel on that sand, gaze peeled to an ocean blue as gems; as sapphire as an emerald forest. The latter, though, is where she was: one girl all alone in the world.

If not quite so alone. There was another at her side. A boy. A bit of an idiot, sometimes, but she didn’t mind it. She liked him. He liked her. They were friends and there’s your story, friend. The beginning. Not the end. Not yet.

Blue sky high above her head, like painted glass, a mosaic, maybe. She was never much of a painter or a poet even when it came to gazing at paintings or reading comics or whozitwotzit. Yet, across that there welkin, as some idiot waxing poetry might call it, clouds ruffled in ripples; big bags of fluffy white, puffing by bright sunlight, golden amid heavens beholden.

They had a witness. They had an observer. It was her. That girl. A fragile thing, really, our skinny little Togruta named Leh’Min’Ayd, but you’d be a fool with a fat face to mistake her for being some simple tool. No, she had strength, and it wasn’t just at the behest of the light side of the Force. She forged her own course by way of the blade as much as the brain.

A hand on her forehead, shielding her eyes from bright light, no hat or visor on her head, no messin’ them tendrils, no sir or ma’am. Other hand on the strap of her backpack at her shoulder, she came prepared for the mission, the exploration, the vacation.

Dressed in a yellow tanktop and grey hiking pants with brown hiking boots, too. The planet of Sonos had a temperate climate and right now it was summer and it was warm and the girl had purple skin and there’s your Togruta, miss.

Surrounded by mountainous forest, she lowered her gaze, scoping a volcano in the distance, far beyond on the horizon. Before her a stream or river, whatever, stretched dead ahead, flanked by rocks and stones and other rocky and stony and jagged things amid hills blanketed in grass. Pretty… Leh’Min’Ayd breathed easy. Good...

Lowered her visor of flesh and bone, both thumbs beneath her backstraps, adjusting one. Her bag wasn’t that heavy if packed full of goodies like survival stuff and this one dead bug she caught cuz it looked funny. Earbuds in both ears, listening to music, drums and a woman’s serene singing, she blinked at Lin who had been trying to get Leh'Min's attention for a second or a minute.

“HUM?” She spoke so as to hear her own voice, never mind this guy making his own noise. “Sommat sommat yes and what the hett?” She pulled one bud out of her ear with a satisfied sigh. “Alrighty, buddy. Speak again and, pro quid pro, you have this purple girl’s attention!” And an insect on your head. She grinned.

On days like this, Quin was reminded that Jedi training wasn’t the only way to feel at peace. The occasional melody of songbirds accompanied by the quiet murmur of the river brought him serenity just as well as passion did, or a lack thereof. The crunching of pebbles under his boots and the ruffle of the breeze in his shirt was better than any feeling meditating in a room could give. Hopefully Master Mirror wouldn’t be offended if he ever voiced that thought.

Tugging down the rim of his cap to filter out the extra light piercing his eyes, his companion who had just been a dark blur beside him shifted into focus. How she had earbuds on on a day like this he couldn’t fathom. To each their own, I suppose. Either way, he was glad that she’d come along. A journey was all the more gratifying if one had someone to share it with. Speaking of which, he remembered that he’d noticed something on the map that looked quite interesting during their last break. Maybe it was too late to make the offer, but it was worth a shot.

“So,” he began, but her gaze remained fixed straight ahead as they marched. “I was wondering…” He cocked his head, opened the map. Still no response. “Lemon? Hello?”

There popped out one earbud. “Oh, thanks.” A sudden grin spread across her face, and Quin instinctively looked down at his shirt. Surely none of that sandwich sauce from earlier had dripped on there— he’d made sure of it! “Is there something…?” He stared at her for a second before glancing down at the map again, his cheeks bright red.

“Well, erm, I wanted to ask if you maybe wanted to check out this volcano. Apparently it’s got a mini beach and a hot spring, but it’ll be a long walk if I’m reading this correctly. Might take us a day or two. What do you think?” With an awkward grin, he offered her the device.

Unfortunately, the six-legged bug sitting atop his head chose that exact moment to hop down onto his hand. Without thinking and in a fleeting moment of panic, he flicked his wrist as hard as he could and practically threw his hand to get the thing off. “Kriffing— what IS that?” Looking around wildly, Quin realized that now it was just him and Lemon, and that the bug was long gone. But so was… “the map!”

Looking down, the thing lay shattered at his feet, broken at the force at which he had thrown it. His heart dropped as he picked up what remained— so much for the path to the volcano. He looked up at Lemon, a grimace on his face. “I am so sorry.”

There was the sound of the breeze, wind whistling between the trees, the rushing of a bubbling brook, the chirps of birds, the murmurs of insects, the breath of beasts close and distant and the sound of the mountain in all its breadth.

Leh’Min’Ayd sure did appreciate all of this, no mistake, but music was just as majestic, so at one point she had decided to complement the forested noise with the voice of her earbuds and see here, bud!

Blinking at buddy boy, with the insect on his head (and no giving it away, kay) on his cheeks bright red like what the hett, idiot. Past the remnants of a sandwich, keeping one earbud in her ear and then some, Leh’Min looked at that map in Quin’s hands.

“Hum hum hummm.”
Stroking her chinny-chin chin. Volcano. Check. Dumbo. Check. 'Apparently it’s got a mini beach and a hot spring'. She mocked him with a Quin’s speech check in her head, playfully teasing.

Quin offered Leh’Min the device as she debated whether to come clean but found the moment too funny. She of course had her thoughts on the course forward toward the volcano and given the map-datapad wotzitcallzit well she— “JIMMINY KRIFFINY”

Leh’Min’Ayd all but thought that her companion was attacking her at that very moment. It was all she could do to flail her arms like a purple peacock with no wings so get lost and there’s your shattered map, lad.

The Togruta blinked down at the broken remnants of the device. Looked up at the simple guy. No smile. No lie. Look into my eyes. Feel the bite of my grimace, kid.

“That was a ladybug…ya big baby dug…”
Lem shifted into a grin the next second.
“No worries and that is too funny, buddy!”
She pulled out her backpack that minute.

“A good camper-hiker-adventurer-explorer-whatever always brings a spare!” She held her backup device in her hands. “I shall summon thy map! Mweeheehee!”

Lem smiled wide. Pressed a button. Drummed her fingers. Heard a beep. Watched a spark. Machine broke. Arms spread. Back arches. Convulsing.

“NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!”

For a second, Quin all but thought that Lemon was about to attack him. The grimace on her face was all too familiar— he’d seen it all the time from his parents— but never from her. Who knew that her disappointment felt infinitely worse? He opened his mouth to apologize again, but the girl’s face suddenly broke out into that grin he was used to seeing.

“Yeah, yeah. Just a ladybug.” He sighed, shaking his head at himself. “But—” He saw the device in her hand. Oh. “Thank the Force! You’re amazing.” A relieved smile broke across his face. It was a good thing Lemon had decided to come along on the hike, because otherwise he would have been completely lost without a map. Except for when she tried to open it…

Lemon’s anguished cry matched exactly how Quin felt as his heart sank. Unlike the coffee machine he had no tools, and he doubted the age-old technique of hitting it a few times before it started up again would work on a sparking device.

“So much for ladybugs bringing good luck,” he muttered before he looked at the glimmering river in front of them. It wasn’t too late to turn back… but what would be the point in that? They had come here to relax and enjoy themselves, and it would be a waste of a trip to let a broken map ruin it. Plus, it would make him look like even more of a coward if he made the decision to go back to the ship. He couldn’t have Lemon thinking that after what she’d just witnessed.

“You know what, who needs a map? We’re Jedi. Let’s keep going. We’ll find our way back just fine.” Flashing her a grin and beckoning for Lemon to follow along, Quin pocketed the remains of his map and pushed forward towards the river, ignoring the gnawing feeling in his stomach at his gamble.

Coffee. Yes. Maybe that’s what Lameonade needed this very moment. Either that or a glass of lemonade. And, though time was as fluid as fluids, and there was a volcano in the distance, it wasn’t yet that mountainous peak of power further in the future. But whatever!

At present and in the present, Leh’Min’Ayd came to her senses a moment later. “So much for donuts, yup.” Whatever that was. Moving on, Lin Queonki had moved on from running from unlucky ladybugs to sharing momentary wisdom. Hummm. Bright kid despite being an idiot.

He had her attention. “Indubitably, buddy.” Lin flashed Lemon a grin as she slapped a hand on his back hard enough to make him stumble like a bumbling baboon before advancing forward in front of him to lead the way as smoothly as the sudden end of a run-on sentence.

“THINK FAST!” An apple would smack him on the head if he didn’t catch it. “Best eat a snack to keep your energy up, kid!” Or he could pocket it like he did the remains of his map.

The river bank at her flank wasn’t that wide, its water not rushing that fast, and the Jedi was fearless as she took a bite of her apple and hopped upon a rock. “Catch me if ya can! Unless Lin’s a chicken!” With that, she hopped across the rocks, hoping Lin might slip and land on his ass so she could laugh at him. Maybe. Not really. Hum.

Donuts? Before he could wrap his head around what Lemon had just said, he felt a sudden force on his back, sending him reeling forward towards the river. Once he regained his balance, he swiveled his head around to look for Lemon, from whom the push had without a doubt come from.

“What was THAT for?”
he exclaimed, an indignant expression on his face. That kind of dirty trick was uncalled for! But foul play or not, Lemon had gotten herself a decent head start and was already at the riverbank. Game on.

Feeling the competitive spirit rush into him, Quin picked up his pace, making his way toward the river as he attempted to catch up to the other Padawan. Despite the sudden comment about a snack or something, just as he made the first jump to cross the water, he hadn’t been expecting to see an apple flying at his face. Instead of looking at the rock he’d been aiming for, his gaze was drawn to the blur of red, his hands instinctively reaching up to catch it. Unfortunately, it meant that his foot landed nowhere close to his target. A second later, all he could see was a blur of green and gray before ending up with a clarity brought by freezing cold water suddenly coming into contact with his skin.

“Kriff!” Scrambling to his feet, albeit with some difficulty given how his boots had completely filled with water, Quin realized that he was drenched and his shirt and sleeve covered in pieces of apple. He’d fallen on his side, managed to catch himself with his hand holding the apple. However, when he took his pack off to see how it was, he didn’t even need to open it to realize that any food he had in there was probably as soaked as he was. Well, Lemon couldn’t complain when he would inevitably have to take some of hers. Speaking of which, he had to find a way to get back at her.

With a mischievous grin, he reached forward with his hand and attempted to concentrate the Force around one of Lemon’s ankles as she continued ahead, yanking it backwards in the slight hope that she would trip. He wouldn’t be the only one who was humiliated today, oh no.

Suddenly Leh’Min heard a splash at her back and laughed. “No time to swim, Lin!” He looked like he was having a bubble of trouble with his current condition in the river’s currents.

“Guess that ladybug really was bad luck, huh?” Feeling pleased with herself, Leh’Min decided to give into a bit of a jig, skipping on her feet. “BUG BUG IT RHYMES WITH DUMB— FUUUUU—”

Just then, Leh’Min slipped. She didn’t land on her ass but on her backpack. Fortunately for her she knew to protect her equipment by bagging it and whatnot, especially her food. Her clothes, on the other hand, got just as soaked as the dude.

“MY BOOTS” Getting your feet wet especially sucked. “WHAT HAVE I DONE TO DESERVE THIS” She asked as she got up, shaking her fist in Lin’s direction. “And you call yourself a Jedi, sir?” Trying not to grin.

Quin couldn’t resist a smirk when Lemon made just as big of a splash in the river as he had. Finally she’d gotten a taste of her own medicine— though it was a good thing that her bag hadn’t gotten wet, he noted with some degree of relief.

“Who’s swimming now?” he retorted, hardly managing to hold back a snort of laughter as Lemon shook her fist at him. “I think you know what you did. Besides, you started it!” The barely suppressed smile on his companion’s face was definitely mirrored on his own as he waded over. The pressure around his ankles as the water flowed around him was much more comfortable than he’d anticipated, but he figured that the worst part would come later when they were out of the river and walking in wet boots.

“Jedi or not, now we’re even,” he declared with a grin before offering a hand to Lemon. “Truce?”

With Lin’s grin and extended hand, Leh’Min hesitated as if to slap that hand away as she made him wait. “Ehhhhhh…” Then it was the Lemonade who broke into a grin! “Truce, my dude!” Hand in hand, eyes into eyes, Leh’Min moved, slipped on loose rock, fell back in on her backside and dragged Lin with her along for the ride. “WAAAAAHHH!!”

Moments later and they were fully out of the river. However, Leh’Min’s earbud was wet and spent so she had only one as she listened to some suitable music on the move. “Sabada! My boots and my socks are SO SOAKED”

Leh’Min proceeded to walk across the grassy river banks, step of -squishy!-, step of -squashy!-, and honestly she didn’t really like it. Though she wasn’t alone.

Sticking to the river was a good idea to reach the volcano yonder since some idiot had destroyed his map and— moving on from that.

“Hope you brought spare clothes, amigo.” She spotted some logs and stones. “We should stop, dry off and swap socks.” Leh’Min promptly plopped down on a log and yoinked her footwear off. The sock was heavy and wet and suitably proven to wack Lin across the back with. “That’s for slippin’ in to begin with!”

Lemon had a firm handshake, but maybe it was a little too firm. Upon grasping her hand, Quin’s eyes widened as he once again felt himself tipping forward. This time around, he made sure to not fall on his backpack again, though the splash wasn’t any less than his previous. At least any food that might have survived wouldn’t get even more wet if that was any comfort at all.

Quin couldn’t help a sigh of relief from escaping him once they finally made their way out of the river onto dry, well, mostly dry, land. Not that he could tell from all the squishing and squeaking of his boots, at any rate. At Lemon’s complaint about wet boots and socks though, he couldn’t help raising an eyebrow.

“Alright, let’s change. But no more tricks near that.” He pointed to the river before settling on a stone next to where Lemon was. He took off his shoes and his socks, tossing those aside before he rummaged through his bag. “I really hope my spare socks are d— WHAT THE— that was GROSS!” Before he knew it he had already jumped to his feet, trying in vain to wipe off the sock water from his back.

You were the one who threw the apple! How was I supposed to know?” Quin shot an accusatory glare in Lemon’s direction. The shock from the sudden attack didn’t stay for long though, and once he recovered Quin sat back down, scooching a little more to the side away from the Togruta. Looking down, his bare feet were covered in dirt and grass, and it would be a while before they would be dry enough to put on new socks without getting them dirty. His boots didn’t look that comfortable to put on either.

“Kriff it. I’m going barefoot,” Quin announced, ignoring the feeling that he would regret it going forward. “If you hit me again, I’ll hit you back with my sock and see how you like it!”

Gross? This quackin' kid didn’t know his up from his down, left from his right, and never mind a wet sock to his back, all right. Oh, Leh’Min would show him ‘gross’ if he kept up his antics, but not yet.

“I threw an apple so you could CATCH IT ya DIMWIT!” She corrected. “Not my fault you’re worse than a blind bantha at Huttball!” She interjected because, at this point, they were arguing over one another. In a less than serious tone, granted.

“And, pro quo pro…quo quid…Lin—” Leh’Min held up a finger.

“Kriff it.”

Then came the kid’s mention of going barefoot of which the other kid just glared at him kind of like this: 😑

“How ya gonna slap me with a sock if you’re goin’ barefoot?” A fair question? Surely? “Like, hum, ya gonna carry around a wet sock beneath your backpack strap or what, buddy-bud?”

She wasn’t terribly interested in his answer as much as the music in her one earbud. Moments later, the pair were up again, heading forth for that volcano yonder, following the river, and no more tricks, kid.

“Gotta admit,” Leh’Min admitted, skippin'. “It’s a really pretty environment!” Towering trees in the distance, spires like cone-shaped knives or something, crawling up the mountainside like moss on rock, and the volcano on the horizon.

“See that cloud, Lin?” She sniffed in place of pointing but better not call her a kitten. “Don’t it look like smoke is billowing from the volcano or sommat?”

Well, I would— well, put it… I don’t know! I’ll figure it out.” Quin rolled his eyes at Lemon, ignoring the blush appearing on his face once again. By the Force, she was humiliating him in every possible way today. But by the time he had finished his flustered rant, he realized that she had already gone on, forcing him to catch up once again. He picked up his dirty boots and socks and shoved both into his bag before running over to catch up. As soon as he did he felt the sharp stones and twigs poking his feet and knew that this was going to be a bad idea. But there was no way he’d stop now and admit that to Lemon lest she make fun of him again.

As Lemon skipped ahead, Quin lagged behind, staring intently at the ground to avoid stepping on any sharp sticks or splinters. Whatever pretty environment there was, Quin wasn’t seeing any of it.

“Yeah, it’s pretty pretty,” he mumbled, dodging a worm or caterpillar or something crawling toward the river. He felt something slimy on his foot and grimaced, but looking down, he realized it was just mud. He was almost wishing for another Lemon sock slap instead of this.

“Cloud? What cloud?” Quin didn’t look up, delicately stepping over another thorny branch. But his eyes shot up when she mentioned it coming from the volcano. It did look quite suspicious.

“You’re right. It does.” He took advantage of Lemon’s stop to catch up to her. “...You think it’s going to erupt?”

Leh’Min pinched her chin between finger and thumb and wondered at Lin’s question as to whether that volcano yonder would erupt. Wastit even an illusion the two were seeing? Was it a cloud or smoke? Hard to tell from their distance and then some, hum.

“I think if it erupts then we’re gonna have to get back in that river.”
She gestured to the water beside both of their drying hides. “Ya know, it’ll prolly be quicker to swim away from the ash and smoke and lava like a couple of fish, I reckon!”

With that, she flapped her arms up and down as if mimicking a fish but maybe she looked more like a dying bird who can’t fly to the sky or whatever.

“Only one way to find out, my friend!” Leh’Min grinned, slapped a hand on Lin’s shoulder, no wet sock like a heavy rock or wotzamacallzit, not for him. He was her friend, shenanigans aside—or because of them, right?

“We’re goin in’, Lin!” She beckoned, directed, promised, wouldn’t take any hesitation and no mistake, Linny-Lin-Lin. “So hold onto your wet sock or your bare feet between the leaves, buddy!”

With that, Lem snatched Lin’s hand, forcing him into the skip across the banks of the river at their flank, for the Force was with them.

Volcano or no, the adventures of Lem and Lin would not end just yet, as the Togruta sang beside the Human, with makeshift lyrics, to the drums and lyre and lute of a liquid river, bagpipe and hiya, my guy!

“Far onward, to a volcano so unknown.
To the peak of a mountain O so deep.
We venture, hand in hand, both Jedi.

An adventure, a dance, side by side.”

Quin looked hesitantly at the river. If it were to erupt, he doubted that being in there would provide much protection. But it was best not to think about that, no?

“I suppose so.” He couldn’t help grinning back when Lemon began flapping her arms though. If they could fly, it would be helpful in getting up to the mountain or to see if it was a volcano about to erupt. He was taken out of his thoughts by Lemon’s slap on his shoulder, bringing him back to the present.

“Going in where?” Regardless of her answer, Quin had no choice but to follow Lemon as she practically dragged him over. His feet were already starting to get sore from his impulsive decision to take off his boots earlier, so it was a little difficult to keep up at first. However, he soon fell into rhythm with his friend, letting the Force and the beat of her improvised song be his guide. It didn’t get much better than this.

As the two made their way down the river, the forest around them seemed to get denser. Over Lemon’s singing, Quin thought he could hear something. A rustle, a whisper, words? Something other than Lemon, if he wasn’t imagining it.

“Lemon? Do you hear that too?”

If Quin didn’t already connect the dots, he was dealing with a person who loved to play pretend.

Lemon had once pretended to be a curator in a museum for no real reason, befriended another Togruta named Ruzaan, met a Pyke named Helmet Head, and they all got lost in a maze. Yay!

Today? Trees could be a maze most certainly. Burning alive in the river or not, flying like a fish or swimming like a bird, seemed like those might just be clouds above that mountain, but a bit of imagination went a long way when it came to staying entertained.

Like singing to lyrics that were made up on the spot, skipping hand hand with someone you were coming to call your friend more and more with each beat, Lem keeping Lin off his feet, swinging into the breeze.

The boy’s voice interrupted the girl’s. “Hum?” Leh’Min didn’t hear a thing but she did have her earbud in. She pocketed it and listened.

Wind. Curling around her lekku. Water. Curving over the stones within the river. “What the hett..?” She looked into the thicket, a bit perplexed. “Lin…is it…a music instrument?”

A lyre? Leh’Min might like to play pretend but she was no less curious in this instant. A lute? “Let’s check it out.” She walked off into the trees, twisting her lips, trying to determine the sound and its source.

Oh. Yeah. She course-corrected. You’re a Jedi, girl. Use the Force! So she paused, closed her eyes, and pointed forth. “There…maybe…” She opened her eyes. “What do you think, Lin? That direction?”

Music? “It could be.” Trying to pinpoint the source of the sound, Quin followed Lemon as she started for the trees. However, just to be safe, he took a quick moment to take his still-damp shoes out of his bag and put them back on. Though wearing them again was uncomfortable, it would be worse if he were to cut his foot on something, especially if they were to encounter something hostile.

Once he’d caught up to Lemon, he saw that she had closed her eyes and was pointing forward. Though he couldn’t tell if it was coming from there or not, he trusted Lemon’s abilities enough to go along with it.

“I have no idea. But let’s try it out— we’ll come back if we don’t find anything.” With that he moved ahead of Lemon, peering through the trees and bushes to try to locate the origin of the sound.

There didn’t appear to be anything at first glance, but then Quin spotted something odd up ahead. It was large and metallic, a rugged corner pointing up at the sky. He moved closer to get a better look, and then he instantly recognized the shape of an old imperial AT-AT walker. Better yet, the door to it was open, and the sound that they had been hearing earlier was clearly coming from within.

“Nice going!” Quin grinned at Lemon, but he instinctively kept his voice low. Who knew what, or who was inside?

Well, so much for combining both Jedi’s powers and prowess with finding stuff with their senses. Seemed like only Leh’Min had an idea of what direction that ‘music’ was coming from. Then again, Lin spoke with wisdom.

Best way to find out? Try it out. The search might be unyielding but the trip back to the river shouldn’t be too difficult. “Bet!” Lem let Lin go ahead as she expressed the vigor of adventure. This is it, kid. She thought about him. She thought about her. The adventures of Lem and Lin!

This wasn’t a mission, but this wasn’t just some vacation. These weren’t just two Padawans bonding. They were— What the hett? Lem didn’t know much about the planet they were on, to admit it.

Yet it wasn’t a shock to find some Imperial remnant. The Galactic Empire had a habit of leaving their trash just about everywhere.

“Hummm…” Leh’Min tilted her head right and left, wondering if anyone or anything was in the cockpit, or the belly of the beast, then maybe it’d be a bit mean? She didn’t sense any entity yet her senses weren’t exactly the best.

“Let’s take a peek!” She whispered back to her companion, tiptoeing closer. Gotta go easy! Stealthily. Discrete. Sneaky-sneaky.

A flutter of wings as birds burst from the trees above the AT-AT. “Shhh!” Finger over lips just in case Lin might squeak.

Reaching the door, Leh’Min hugged a wall beside the hole, just listening for a moment. Music. Yeah… It was strange. Strings. Bells. A bit distorted in a way, like an echo from a cave. A live musician? Or a recording?

“You go first!” Lem gestured. “I got your back!” And won’t be eaten as a snack!

As he stealthily followed Lemon to get closer to the AT-AT, Quin flinched when a flock of birds suddenly appeared from the trees. What had startled them? He turned to Lemon, about to voice his concern when she shushed him. Alright, that was fair.

He stood near the door and listened more closely. There didn’t sound like there was any movement in there, but then, where was the echoey music coming from? It appeared that he wasn’t the only one who was wary of entering first because of it.

“What happened to ladies first?” he quipped back in a whisper before shaking his head and reluctantly stepping inside. He could hardly see a thing as his eyes transitioned, but he soon realized that he was in the room right before the cockpit. The music seemed to be getting louder the closer he got to it.

He slowly made his way over, gingerly stepping over the branches and leaves that had blown in over the years. Here and there on the ground grew patches of grass where a few rays of light managed to reach the floor. It’s actually nice in here. Suddenly, he heard a crunch come from under his foot. The music stopped, and Quin froze in his place.

He looked over at the cockpit, where he saw the end of a squirrel’s tail disappear through the paneless window. Right underneath it was a paused hologram of… Quin’s eyebrows shot up.

“Well. That’s not appropriate.” Quickly making his way over, the Padawan switched it off before turning around with a wide grin on his face. “Lemon? It’s safe to come in! It was just a squirrel.”

“This lady is telling you to go first!” And there’s your crazy little lady whispering at the young man’s back.

As Lin went inside to investigate, Lem kept hiding behind the wall of the AT-AT just in case there was a giant mynock waiting within. Vicious beasts, those things!

Truthfully she was as curious as to what that music might be when she was distracted by the chirping of the birds around her. Singing from the trees, suddenly there was an audience. They flew away…but wait they just relocated.

The music stopped that same moment. A boy’s voice followed. “Just a squirrel?” No longer any need to whisper as Leh’Min entered.

She looked around the cockpit. Nothing looked out of the ordinary except for a poster of a half-naked Twi’lek chick. Well. That’s not appropriate. “Whaddya mean just a squirrel?”

Lem scratched her head, perplexed. “Ya tellin' this girl there was a squirrel playin’ music or a squirrel hit ya on the head like a cracked egg?” Then again, stranger things had happened, like when Leh’Min’Ayd encountered Bush Jade.

“Hey, wait a sec, what the hett?” She gestured toward the consoles and controls in the cockpit. There was a button and beside it was a light that was suddenly blinking. “What is it, Lin?”

Sure, he probably had less of an answer than her in that instant, but what she really meant was: ‘You go first and check it out because if it explodes then it’ll blow up your face anyhow instead of mine. Yay!’

As Lemon looked around the cockpit, Quin’s gaze came to rest on the poster the same time as hers. He hadn’t even noticed it earlier. Must have had a lenient commander. What did she say? Oh. The squirrel.

“Erm… it hit a button or two on the console. I think that’s where the music was coming from.” He chose not to mention the video he’d switched off for Lemon’s sake. However, when his friend once again drew his attention to the console, he saw that a button was blinking. That hadn’t been there before.

“That’s a good question.” Quin approached the console, giving it a closer look as he extended a hesitant hand to the button. “You think it’ll explode?” Despite the potential danger though, he still found himself curious. Besides, if it really was a volcano that they saw back there about to explode, they wouldn’t have much of a chance of survival anyway. “I guess we’ll find out.”

He pressed the button, mentally bracing himself for an explosion or whatever he was expecting. However, nothing happened. the button simply stopped blinking, and Quin glanced back at Lemon.

“We’re alive!” he exclaimed with a grin just as he heard a crackle behind him.

“Whaddya mean just a squirrel? Ya tellin’ this girl there was a squirrel playin’ music or a squirrel hit ya on the head like a cracked egg?”

Turning back around, Quin spotted two hologram versions of him and Lemon just a few moments ago. Realization at what was happening dawned on him, and relief washed over him.

“It’s just a holorecorder! We must have replaced the old video.” He looked at the button again. As he did, an idea popped into his head. “We should make a new one. Make it ours,” he suggested, looking at Lemon with a smile. “If we ever come back to Sonos, this can be our spot with evidence to prove it.”
