Hey, my name is David, I was here before, even did an introduction like this one too, but got distracted by things (forgot my username) and my rp'ing never went anywhere. I don't planning on doing that again, I've even gone and set up a proper avatar to show I mean business this time.

Anyways, I don't know nearly enough about star wars as I should to feel comfortable here, but I do know I like writing... most of the time. I've been role playing maybe a year now, on and off. So if there are any kind and merciful souls out there willing to suffer through my noobish questions to hep me get my footing, I would appreciate it.

I don't see the problem.

A user's 'welcome' thread is for us to welcome 'em, not recruit 'em. There's no problem with you trying to recruit if they ask what factions they should join, but otherwise let them peruse the boards for themselves and decide what faction they want to join. Heck, they may even want to stay independent. =D

If you -do- want to point them to the factions, then post links to all the factions and let them have a chance to see it all. Speaking of which, I forgot to post my customary WelcomeSpam[TM]...

If this is your first RP forum (then again even if it isn't) you should give a quick glance to the stickies in this board. That includes the "Guide to Roleplaying", the "Roleplaying Rules" and "Brandon Rhea's Guide to Roleplaying".

Once you're ready to make a character, I would certainly recommend using one of the character templates found in this thread; it's worth noting that the first template [aka: The Standard Profile Template] is easier to use at first. Mind you, the template isn't set in stone; you can change things around and omit things to make the profile your own. So long as it has fifty words of personality and fifty words of history, you're set. Also when creating your character and writing their history make sure you check out the Disallowed Species and the Disallowed Planets stickies; that way you don't get a tirade of members telling you what you have to change immediately. Also make sure you read The Story: The Hutt War thread and the Timeline of Galactic History. I would also suggest giving Grim's Guide to Not Making Crappy Characters a read, as it can be very helpful. Last but certainly not least, make sure to read the Timeline Technology thread so that you know what footing you're on in terms of weapons, ships, and other such tech.

Once you've got your character, if you do not want to sign them up to a faction, you can begin roleplaying straight away. Just remember these things and you should be fine. If you do want to join a faction, it's worth having a look at each, and reading all the stickies in the main faction threads:

The Galactic Republic
The Jedi Order
The Hutt Empire
The Dark Jedi of the Bogan

Make sure to check out each faction and their subfactions by reading through their boards; if the main faction doesn't interest you, then perhaps one of its subfactions will! There are also a few independent factions which you can look up in The Independent Factions Board.

If you have any questions at all, you can PM myself or any other staff members. There's almost always one of us on, and we [usually] don't bite. So again, welcome to the SWRP, and enjoy your stay! =)

Jedi Order isn't a bad choice at all. And, if worse comes to worse, you can always have your character change allegiances or simply make a new character if you desire a change of pace. If you have any questions about the Order, feel free to PM either myself, Sreeya, or Will; we're the Jedi Order's Triumvirate of Awesome. [Or if you have any questions in general, give us or any other faction leader/staff member a shout - we'd all be happy to help.]

Before you make a Jedi, though, I'd suggest peeking into the independent force sensitive factions. Some of those factions are very interesting, and they might appeal to you! Or, if you want to take a 'go-with-the-flow' approach, you can make a independent Force User [somewhere around or below Padawan level in terms of training and skill] and pop into a thread and see if someone tries to recruit your char IC'ly. That's always fun.
