African Slavery Apology

A civil rights group is now calling on African traditional rulers to apologize for their ancestor's responsibility in the slave trade in Nigeria. The group especially wants them to apologize as the traditional rulers are trying to be included in Nigeria's new constitutional amendment.

Civil Rights activists are normally a bit crazy (now a days at least. I don't consider racism a big problem in the western world anymore (ie Britain and the US)), but this is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

The tribal chiefs back in the day did go use their forces back in the day to go out and capture slaves who were then sold to Europeans and sent to America.
Trying to get them to apologize seems as legitimate as getting Spain, Portugal, and Britain to apologize for their role in the slave trade.

I agree 100% that these people need to own up and acknowledge their ancestors role in slavery. I'm getting so tired of hearing from blacks "WELL YOUR ANCESTORS ENSLAVED MY ANCESTORS." Well guess what, your ancestors enslaved your answer too! If whites are suddenly supposed to own up to their ancestor's role, then so does everyone else.

That said, I disagree with the apology thing. It just needs to be outright acknowledged.

Addressing the topic: While normally my stance would be impassionate and borderline cruel... This actually bothers me. Hypothetically speaking, had a portion of my family at one time endorsed and participated in the enslavement of another race, I can't say I would feel overly obliged to apologize as I had not actually committed any transgression.

I will apologize on behalf of imperialism. That was a bad idea.
It strikes me my stance my still be borderline cruel.
