To my knowledge, we didn't go there for oil. We went there because they had been harboring terrorists. And the 90 people were from an air strike that hit some Taliban and civilians.

No....you misunderstood my statement...I was talking about how the civilians were gathering around the tanker because, since the tanker got stuck in the mud, one of the Taliban had opened it to lighten the load. The people came around the tanker to gather the oil.....

During war, oil is more precious than gold.

If the Taliban take back Afghanistan, they've got a good chance of taking Pakistan from there.

Who're nuclear armed.

This. WWII shows that more than any recent wars. The only reason Germany invaded Africa was to gain oil and that was the major factor of invading Russia too. Not to mention one of the major factors of Japan attacking Pearl Harbor was the oil embargo slapped on them by the US.

With respect, don't you think the Gulf War illustrates this better than WWII?

Obviously.

WW2 wasn't about oil.

It was only a factor regarding battlefield operations, but it barely had any influence in the grand scheme of things.

I doubt they'd be able to retake much of Afghanistan unless we fully pull out and give no aid to them. And if Pakistan were to somehow fall, it would probably have to fall from the inside. Probably by parts of the ISI which is their version of Sector 13 except that we've heard of it.
