The main thing with the Sith is simply because this this is an era that predates the Sith Philosophy. As is even the " Jedi" are technically sort of new-ish and still hold much of their Ashla roots.

long story short Dark Jedi of the Bogan are what the darkside knew of before Sith ^_^

it's semantics more or less with a few minor philosophical differences ( aka the Sith are actually more strict and controlled )

To be honest, no not really. Some work well within main factions(example: Jade). Both my Indie factions run with the Hutts.

Hutt Empire Alliances

A list of good indie factions.

No, I mean that they don't normally follow the main plot of the Timeline. Rather, they focus on personal drama and secondary actions during the war. It has an appeal to some.

Indie faction working with the Hutts is an example of secondary actions during the war.

That is good to know. Especially since I want to create a character that is very Sith like. Is there any pre-created sith like characters that anyone knows of that I could use to help spur my inspiration?

Secondary actions as in no impact on the main storyline? Because indie factions can have a impact on it well working with main factions. I personally would call that following the main plot by the way ...but your post slightly confused me, sorry.

EDIT:

Both main and indie factions can have character drama equally the same. Depends what you want. Nothing is stopping you from making a thread or connection with your main faction characters. Doesn't make any sense to me why you can't. TBH, I wouldn't join indie just for character development.

Why you go sith? :CIsee

On a side note, indie factions and main factions have their pros and cons. Indies are pretty much great for character development, and due to smaller size, I would say a bit more personal (don't quote me on that last part). Granted main factions are more involved in the story and play a bigger role than indie factions.

Granted, main factions are also good for character development, and if you want your character to have a place in history ^_^ (or so that's how its been in some rps). Do this place have a timeline? Or Hall of fame? or something recording past events? (besides archives).

You could also do a mix of both, join a main faction, then later split off into indie or vice versa. Or do what I'm doing and just wander the galaxy and learn on your own, and see where it leads you. That option still leaves you open for joining factions, but you gotta' be persuaded or something like that.

Anyways, that's my two cents...good luck figuring out what you want to do :D.

Meh. I haven't been sleeping and my posts probably don't make sense. I'll try to respond tomorrow.

Most of this early history is written as events, and not so much focused on any characters " that come to mind" which is sort of the big appeal of these eras because they are wide open ^_^

but these may help get a little creativity going:

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Force_Wars

and a little backing on the whole Bogan/Ashla thing:
wookie said:
In 25,053 BBY, long after the fall of the Infinite Empire, the galaxy was building a new government, the Galactic Republic. Prior to the dawn of this new era scientists, philosophers, priests, and warriors gathered on the planet Tython to discuss and investigate an anomalous energy present throughout the galaxy. The group was able to discover Ashla, what became known as the light side of the Force. Eventually however, members of the group discovered and began to advocate the use of Bogan, or what would later become known as the dark side. These two groups clashed on the planet in a decade-long conflict known as the Force Wars of Tython. In the aftermath of the war, the followers of Ashla developed the Jedi Order, while the followers of Bogan seemingly faded from history.
The dark side would not present a significant threat again until 24,500 BBY, in the First Great Schism of the Jedi Order. Once again however, the followers of the dark side, including Lettow General Xendor, the first known Dark Jedi, were defeated by the members of the Jedi Order. Those who followed Xendor came to be known as the Legions of Lettow, and embraced combat in place of meditation, and focused their emotions on battle rather than calm. Several members of the Jedi Order would once again take up these teachings and embrace the dark side in 7,000 BBY sparking the Second Great Schism, also known as the Hundred-Year Darkness. Although the Dark Jedi were again defeated and eventually exiled, it was this conflict that allowed for the creation of an enduring dark side organization, as the Exiles would be the predecessors to the Sith.

Welcome to the Mad House. Down the hall on your left is where you can get fitted for your personal straight jacket. Oh, and don't feed the Bac. He bites.
