One dimensional is killing for the sake of killing, aye. However, there needs to be a drive or something that drove people into this faction specifically. It has to be a common view in some sense of the word. That's why this 'neutral, indifference' attitude makes little sense to me. There are plenty of independent factions that suit that ideology much better.

It's not necessarily indifference with the faction, but indifference toward Andraste. I've gotten the vibe that most characters don't care about her because she doesn't really do anything. If you've got no reason to stay but no reason to leave, that's where you get your indifference from.

For me, it was much easier to find IC justification to fight against her than to fight for her. So the Coterie was an obvious choice.

Okay now I follow. I think it's my fault in pointing to Andraste instead of faction. Because to me Andraste = Faction. I expect the indifference because I myself as a writer haven't been active in a long time, but ICly people should still know the story that spanned over decades in the plot. That's where I'm seeing a disconnect. You being a new player =/= your character being totally clueless about the history of this site's plot.

My new Sith acolyte, Anastasia, hasn't been around long enough to form an honest opinion about the civil war or Andraste. At the moment, she couldn't care less and is a Sith mainly because she wants to use their resources to make herself stronger. But hey, tell her the right things and she'll chop off anyone's head for you.

My Stormtrooper Rasha, however, is loyal as all hell. Patriotic nearly to the point of insane. He'd get the Imperial symbol tattooed on his left butt cheek to prove his loyalty. (But only the left cheek, though)

I'm fully aware of the site's plot.

It's more of a "What have you done for me lately?" type of thing. Cool beans she did stuff before, hasn't really done much for the Imperium recently.

By all means, fight against her. But have a strong reason for doing so and it'll be fun for everyone involved. If you are aware of the site plot, then you have all the info you need to make a decision on which side to be on. :)

My joined date is no reason to patronize me. I make informed decisions in most things I do, RP'ing is no different. Loyalty to the Imperium in its current state was never one of my long term goals regardless of what kind of sub-factions happened to find a resurgence since my character became a Sith.

I find the Coterie to just be a happy coincidence that happened to already fall in line with the mindset my character has always had.

Me patronizing you for join date would be me calling you a newb. It's because I don't see newer members any differently than old that I expect new members to take an interest in the story before getting involved and be up to speed. If you find that patronizing, then I apologize.

I may have read a generalized statement as a personally focused one. Hard to decipher tone on the internet, etc.

No apologies necessary.

Find your own reasons. Don't wait for someone to spoon feed your character(s) an opinion. That's kind of your job as the writer, to figure out what motivates your character and what drives them to do things.
Not to be rude here, but there's a reason why the site's story has been chronicled so extensively. Was he frozen in carbonite all his life or something? No? Then he should probably know who the Empress is.

I did read it when I first joined. Good read for the most part, kinda wish I was here in the early days rather then the tail end of the timeline. However What history had been written about the Empress or the Empire doesn't really have a barring on direction of a character. Least not as I see it. To me that's kind of like saying I am loyal to Oboma because of what he did as a Senator. Or I'm enlisting to be an Army Ranger because they were among the first to storm the beaches during D day.

Action makes and interaction with others makes a person. I dislike Oboma because he gives people free money and benefits, as well as a crap free healthcare system. I enlist in the Army because two generations of my family have severed including my Grand Father in Korea, I choose Rangers because my recruiter tells me I'll get a signing bonus and Rangers are the best of the best etc etc.

In Virion's case he was recruited to the Sith by Master Arcanist Raith (V). Who was more or less a Grey Sith for lack of a better term. V got busy. so attempted to be an apprentice to Crusader Sunsinger. They left shortly have becoming a Crusader and toward the end of the Thread. V tried again but real life got him busy. So again floating. All the while the mission and Arc boards were not changed or updated sense Rom's rule as FL, until very recently with the Civil War in full motion. Most of those were completed long before my character was even made. With the exception of perhaps the zodiac training missions. That's kind like I wanna go to collage but all the classes are full for the next two or three semesters.

I'm rambling a bit but I'm hoping I get my point across. I see you're points @Bee and @Sreeya but I also see flaws in them.

Okay, political wank aside (spoiler alert: no one cares) you're really just reinforcing my point. So your character doesn't care about politics. Acceptable.

V got busy. Saying your character was "floating" just sounds like you were too lazy to write him. So his master is busy - surely he has a life outside of that. Surely he isn't a barnacle on a blind man's buttcheek. The master/student relationships in this timeline are very relaxed, and Vexillar's character in specific is a chill dude. If you said hey, I did some stuff with my Sith while you were gone, literally no one would blame you for it. Instead, you're blaming someone else for your inactivity. That's no bueno.

The mission boards only recently fell into disrepair following the switch to Xenforo. Your character was made long before that. Again, blaming others for your lack of activity. Not everything needs to be training or missions - find some random person, ask if they want to do a thread, and figure it out as you go. Bam. No more "floating." No more needing to rely on others to get yourself out of a rut. The responsibility is on YOU to find stuff to do - not on other people to hand it to you on a silver platter.

I agree.

I also want to dispel a notion that seems to be going around that the admins (or, to be specific, me) are controlling the civil war, and indeed the entire RP. That is wrong. I don't know that much about the Imperium's civil war. I only know what the faction's leadership tells me about it. So the admin team is certainly not orchestrating this.

When we introduced the Legacies mythology, the admin team made something very clear: the admins would work on directing the mythology/Skywalker story, but the factions and members would be the ones who decide the outcome and trajectory of the war by role-playing the war, because that is ultimately the bread and butter of the site and what keeps people engaged. The staff has fulfilled that promise; we are not orchestrating things like the civil war.

I really hope this is true. One of the things I've loved about this site is the feeling of importance that my characters have. I love being able to assist a faction, actually see it grow, and not just be thrown busy work that in the end doesn't mean anything. If that were to ever change it would be incredibly upsetting. After all if our characters (the normal writers of the site) can't progress the story then what's the point?
