DESCRIPTION​

The Barancese Hidromon is a pattern of heavy warship which was first developed in the Tion Cluster by starshipwrights of the planet Barancar. Commissioned for the empire of Xim the Despot, they were the largest, most heavily armed ships in his navy; equivalent to a modern heavy cruiser, they fairly bristled with armament, carried their own starfighters, and were well protected by a scheme of moveable spaced armor segments copied from the Thanium Star-Glaive. They were generally reserved as flagships for high-ranking admirals, with Xim himself often commanding from his personal example, the legendary Eibon Scimitar.

Although only a relative handful of Barancese Hidromons were actually built prior to the collapse of Xim's empire, the ships had an outsized influence on naval architecture for millennia to come. They directly inspired a line of later Republic warships, which culminated in the 2-kilometer-long Invincible-class star cruiser, one of the most powerful ships of its day.

In the present day, no complete Barancese Hidromons are known to still exist, although wrecks can be found scattered across the Outer Rim, primarily in the Tion Cluster and the frontiers of Hutt Space. Fragments of the Eibon Scimitar - including what is believed to be part of the command bridge - are a major attraction at the Bureau of Ships & Services Heritage Museum. The lack of preserved examples has fueled rampant speculation about the type's scale and capabilities, inspiring a number of outlandish replicas over the years.

Restricted. Barancese Hidromons are classified as heavy capital ships under Galactic law. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities.
