Matthias had been told to be here. This exact place. To train, apparently. In what, or who by, he hadn't been told. He didn't honestly care. All he knew was that he needed to be strong.

Stronger.

So, here he was. Otherwise ordinary, now at least, he was told he had what it took to be trained here, or might do at least. With no idea what to expect, or what he was going to have to do, or for how long.

But if that was it took, he would do it. No matter what.

(((The Blackest Night falls from the skies. The darkness grows as all light dies. We crave your hearts and your demise. By my black hand, the dead shall rise!

Nescius Caedo strode in confidently, wearing loose fitting black trousers, boots and a black tunic. He wore no cloak, and stood, gazing at his new apprentice. The acolyte was young still, fresh faced. Well, Nescius would see just how ready for this he was.

"Peace. Knowledge. Serenity. Harmony. And life." He paused. "They sound like good things, don't they? Positive. Happy. Good."

He looked up, shaken out of his melancholic reverie by the sound of the other man's voice. He looked older than Matthias. Much older. Matthias himself was young, though he had been through more than most would ever have to deal with in their lives, but this man... he clearly had seen more, done more. Done... terrible things. Good.

Raising his gaze to meet the other man's gaze, he couldn't help but to laugh a little as he spoke. Not at the man, but what he said.

"They sound more like luxuries that most can ill afford. Like a mockery of those that are forced to go without."

From most boy's his age, his words would have been ridiculous. Nonsense brought on by a desire to rebel. From him, they were a reflection of his life; a daily fight for survival, no time for peace, for knowledge.

"And you would have me think you know what true pain is, you've had nothing in your life, you only know sadness. You won't find sympathy anywhere in this temple, so cut the violin now. Everyone thinks they know the worst experiences known to the galaxy," he paused a second, "but let's suppose for a minute that you actually do believe that those things are ill-afforded luxuries, why? What's bad about them? And what would you have in their place?"
