Not sure how serious it is, but a lot of rivers and lakes are looking dry, and I hear that fines will be issued to people who take long showers. So if California does run out of water, I am more curious as to "what now"?

Discuss. Anyone in California doing their part to save water?

I only shower every several days and when ever it rains is when my car gets washed.

I don't think you need to be that conservative.

Um, no? People don't need to shower every day unless they get filthy or sweaty every day.

And by several days, I mean generally 3-4 days.

That's shampooing your hair, not washing your body.

Not sure how serious it is

Well you only have one year left of water reserves, and Governor Brown just signed an executive order mandating that all water agencies cut their water output by 25%.

So I'd say it's pretty serious.

Isn't California looking into desalination to help alleviate the problem?

Per this 2009 report.

You can shower more, Phil.

San Diego's working on a big desalination plant, but the process is expensive. I imagine, given the drought, they'll find ways to pay for increased desalination and graywater efforts.

My shower schedule isn't really a topic of debate. I mean, you can if you want, but I shower when I need too, which is every few days. I like to think that what would happen if we didn't have that luxury to shower if water was scarce or expensive. But that is also the wastelander in me talking.

They need too, I know a lot of people can be careless with water from watering pretty flowers and lawns to using excess amount to wash cars, etc.

You brought it up.

I mentioned it as a way of me saving water. There is no more to it. It's not something that will change unless life changes and it's necessary for me too do it daily. Right now, it's not.

I think a lot of you are either spoiled or were conditioned to shower daily, and you don't know any better or have never tried or wanted to go for a few days without showering. You don't appreciate it.

During Wasteland Weekend, the only water we had was for drinking or washing dishes. Anything that remained that was not drinkable we would use to wash our faces if needed. But no one here would ever dare go longer then a day without showering, because you know no other way.

Don't pretend to be all high and mighty now when you literally opened the thread confessing to not being sure how bad the drought was.

If I don't shower in the morning, I will smell the rest of the day.

You walk around wearing a fedora and a giant black trench coat in California. You work in a warehouse. Something tells me you need to shower every day.

Not to mention the fact that you go to these Wasteland Weekends and "play" survivor. That's textbook white privilege, so don't act all high and mighty.

You're also playing Mad Max. People don't actually live that way.

Take a god damn shower.

Forgive me then if I don't believe every media source that says the drought is so serious that California will die if it don't get rain. I think it's serious, but not as serious as some media sources make it out to be.

Most of my time is in a office inside a warehouse. I don't usually wear the trench coat in the summer, and rarely to work. I used to have to shower every day when I was a driver because boxes love to collect dust.

We're 20 miles/35 minutes away from the nearest town with a store when we go out there. It's literally in the desert in the middle of no where, so if you don't bring enough water for your stay, which could be between a day or a week(longer for the construction crew), and no one else has it, then it does not exist.

People don't actually live that way.
Maybe not living like a Wastelander, but there are people who live in the wilderness/away from society.
