Just something that I've noticed, looking back on my threads, is that many people assume how 'big' another character's presence is. In a way, the way I look at it, it's kind of God-Modding, cause it's happened many times to me personally that - "Oh, she is so strong in the Force I can easily find her in a forest I've never been in before." Not a big deal, I know, but it's just an example. Because of this, I've added what Ashara's presence would feel like under normal circumstances and while meditating.

I was just curious what thoughts people had on this subject. Why they assume Grandmaster/Dark Lord = biggest presence in the Force in a room full of Jedi/Sith.

Personally, I think its a lot like a balance between a person's attunement to the Force, coupled with their level of control over their 'presence' and also, what I believe to be a key factor in the equation; the character's personality.

I think a 'big' extroverted personality will hold a larger presence in the Force. Like you and I had discussed on the matter on Skype, Mav. I believe that Juno would have a bigger presence in the Force than Ashara would be.

I feel that I am guilty of this, and I apologize. Still new to RPing a Padawan in that aspect I guess.

To me, if you're extremely powerful in the Force then you're much harder to detect through the Force. If you're hiding from someone then you have the ability to hide your Force connection pretty well.

Well, I personally believe both views are accurate. The more powerful you are in the Force, like a Jedi/Sith Master and higher, the bigger a 'blip' you are on someone's Force Radar. However, as Bac stated, that means you're also capable of concealing that presence, through both skill and power, making you capable of hiding in plain sight.

Take Skhai for example. She's with Vereor, the Dark Lord of the Sith at the moment, and he has no idea she's Force Sensetive, nevermind the former Jedi Sage Master, because she's minimizing her presence within the Force.

Shouldn't that only be true if they know the relevant techniques to hide their signature?

Yes, but at the same time, the Force is often noted as an extension of yourself. So if you want to be subtle, the Force follows in suit, I imagine.

If you're that powerful, I think it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that you know that. Such a power should be standard Jedi training.

Should being the operative term. I think that the Jedi are about to lose all forms of what is standard. ^-^ Anyway, that makes sense.

There are specific techniques (Force Stealth, most notably used by Palpatine) for subduing your presence in the Force, otherwise you can be sensed. I always kind of.view it as a matter of control - putting out any aura should take some energy, which is why Vereor is always tightly concealing things. He only really unbinds those concealments when he is making a point or for dramatics.

Or to scare someone shitless.

And honestly - its going by history. Palpatine was described as being a black nexus or black hole of dark side energy. Yoda was said to give off an aura of calm and light to all around him that could sense it.

Is it bad that I can picture the Jaws theme playing whenever Darth Vereor walks into a room? Everyone's just like: please don't let him be coming to talk to me.

This guy ^ :CHappy

Also, force stealth isn't a commonly trained skill, at least not in the NJO. Voxyn and vornsksr were such prolific force hunters and as big of a threat as they were because they didn't know how to subdue their presence enough to avoid being picked up.

Yeah, that is why when Drakus became a master i gave him force concealment. That way he could go around and avoid people sensing him through the force. :CStern

I generally make a guess based on what the other character is doing. If they're just minding their own business and not doing much, I probably won't even mention sensing them. If they're actively drawing on the Force, then I'll make a guesstimate based on what they're doing.

As for my own characters, most of my Force Sensitives actively mask their presence. I generally make a point of explaining what their aura is like in-thread, if and when it ever becomes relevant. Delun, for example, can go from being a beacon of light to an insignificant speck. It depends on what he's doing and how focused he is on masking his aura. It all depends, I guess.

Personally, I would go with a person's potential in the Force. However, I would also say that the Dark Lord and all Sith Lords likely would be the least sensed because they would hide their signatures the most. Also, I think the Grandmaster would likely be sensed no differently than he would as a regular Jedi Knight.

I always felt that one's presence within the force was relevant to Charisma, and the culmination, and cultivation of force knowledge, techniques, et cetera. I could be crazy though.
