Che womok!

For millennia the Ewoks of Endor had lived a relatively isolated existence, visited only by the occasional passing trader (often down on their luck) and every now and then a wayward pirate or two. Their only trouble comes from internecine tribal conflicts and clashes with the forest moons other occupants. Yet after the fall of the Galactic Empire, Endor had seen many changes owing to its pivotal role in the totemic ‘final battle’ which saw the demise of the Sith Lords: Palpatine and Vader.

Tourists. Troublemakers. Troubadours - and more besides.

Many had come to Endor seeking to visit the historic location, and some had come with far less honest intentions. Pirates, hunters and trappers had come as well, and Endor had suffered for it. It had led to the Ewoks in some of the settlements close to off-world interference and outposts doubling, nay, tripling their patrols in an effort to keep their lands safe.

Yet, there were rumours from the offworlders that a far more nefarious force was abroad. Great shoals of gigantic war machines had appeared in the skies above other worlds, some of which even had Ewok colonies on them, and visited ruination and death - scores of metal men pouring out of the bellies of these ships, and bringing destruction with them. Narpoo had many sleepless nights thinking of these stories, the ever-present question in his mind: What if they came here?

He had raised it with the Elders, and Narpoo had been entrusted to make his people ready for war.

Standing at the entrance to one of Endors ‘trading outposts’, Narpoo was ready to do just that. He had been connected through one of the Elders to an offworlder, one who was willing to help the Ewoks with their preparations for invasion, and so here he stood, eyes peeled as he looked out for their new arrival.

Kotii thought carefully about how to best approach the Ewoks of Endor. The man thought to take a page out of Arthos's book after his work with the Mandillian Giants. They didn't appreciate the built in tools of armor functions, considering them weapons and boons lacking the level of honor and respect as more conventional weapons like the bes'kad or beviin. But it was also important to be up front about who and what they were.

The Alor of clan Solus slowly brought the Werda Kom'rk in for a cautious landing. Its scanners did its best before arriving to check the surrounding area for possible threats. The world was a backwater moon, a planetoid technically and not a true planet. But the Ewoks of Endor were known across the galaxy since the days of the second Death Star's destruction.

<"There's one of them."> Aden said from the pilot seat and gestured with a hand over the ship's dashboard while the rotating blade like wings in the livery of clan Solus turned to point skyward while the main central body remained parallel to the ground during its descent. <"There's probably more."> He said with a bit of respect. They were still able to put up an effective fight against the Galactic Empire and ever since then.

Atin of clan Solus and also Kotii's foundling, Hauron were aboard the troop transport. Each of them were not required by Kotii to take off their helmets. The village elder had a hologram of the Mandalorian's upper half, adorned in his scatterweave coated beskar'gam and, thanks to a protocol droid translating, Kotii had been able to understand he was to meet a skilled boar hunter. He would represent the Sharp Stone tribe in this first in-person meeting. The machine had been powered down for most of the trip except for a little bit to help teach Hauron a bit of Mando'a and try his first hand at Ewokese. Its photoreceptors flickered as the machine finished rebooting.

Narpoo ran up to the newcomer as they arrived, a person he recognised almost immediately as a Mandalorian. They were strong warriors, this was something Narpoo knew by reputation alone - he was confident he could learn much from them. "Skuka toh Endor" he bowed to the newcomer. Affording them the respect a visiting dignitary would deserve, he finished his introduction, and rose from the bow, before handing her a simple wooden axe, adorned with a head of volcanic glass, with the sigil of Clan Solus carved into the head itself.

"Eepa squee." he smiled, his brown fur pulled back over his lips to reveal remarkable shiny teeth as he added, in obviously rehearsed basic "From Sharp Stone, to Solus Clan." Narpoo expertly butchered the syntax of his basic, nonetheless beaming with pride at his assumed mastery of the language.

Stepping back from the newcomer, his gift now given and his welcome done, Narpoo wondered what expertise she would bring to their world, as they made ready to keep the people of Endor safe from the prying eyes and snatching hands of those who would seek to do them harm.

The Ewok that had come to meet them seemed to be both excited and also confident despite being approached by four Mandalorains. The furball had guts and maybe had more of his tribe close by backing him up. It was wise to think they had eyes on them anytime they entered the forest moon's gravity well.

Kotii was not entirely certain if he should have expected to bring a gift. It did sound like something diplomats did. The Alor of Clan Solus was not necessarily prepared for this. All the same, the man nodded his helmet. "You have my thanks." He would examine the axe for a moment before putting it through his belt on his right side. The hand would come back but with Kotii's vibroblade in it. The badger tossed the blade over his own hand, causing it to spin and then be caught expertly by the blade in Kotii's hand, handle extended towards Narpoo. "Please, take this. My gift to you." It had been his only melee weapon and was possibly still more effective than the axe Narpoo had given him. But it was important to give a gift that was also a sacrifice. "Careful. It tears like a possessed tooth..." He tried to not speak to quickly for the Ewok. The man didn't want him to get frightened when he hit the blade's activation switch and think it was a trap. "...but will cut into almost any enemy." It seemed fitting to exchange hand to hand weapons.

Narpoo made a noise that could only accurately be described as a high pitched 'yeep' as Kotii handed him a gift. He had never received a gift from an off-worlder in his entire life, making this a pretty spectacular moment for him. He took the vibro-blade with a grin on his face and held it up to catch the sun.

It was a metal dagger, one that the off-worlders often used. Narpoo had wanted one for ages, ever since he was a wokling and had seen Chuk-Chuk, the tribes best warrior, wielding one.

With the introductions done, he stepped back and stowed the dagger on his hip, before waving forward and aged and slightly rusty protocol unit. Narpoo realised he probably should have used it earlier, but - hey ho. "We thank you for your gift. Mandalorians are a warrior people, like the Ewoks, and we have much we can learn from you." the droid translated Narpoos excited yapping, as the Ewok waved for Kotii to follow him to the village.

Kotii was glad to see his gift had made a positive impression on Narpoo. The Ewok was hopefully a renowned representative as well, otherwise the man had just given the village idiot one of his favorite weapons. The craftsmanship of the axe however seemed to be rather sturdy. Under closer inspection it probably would make short work of duraplast. No wonder the empire never stood a chance.

Thankfully the representative guided a weathered protocol droid. Its translator wasn't the best but it spoke in Mando'a well enough. The man's helmet cocked the side, not used to hearing his people's tongue come from a droid. All the same the badger was glad for it and righted his head before replying. <"You are welcome. We would be happy to share our wisdom with your tribe."> He did not want to offend and ask for anything just yet. The last thing he wanted to do was come off as if he were demanding something. The squad of Mandalorians followed the Ewok guide with a relaxed posture, able to easily keep up with the shortened stride of the smaller biped. Still, their visors looked about, taking in the sights of the native environment.

<"There is a new enemy, much like the Galactic Empire. I fear they will inevitably come to Endor, to your home. Furthermore the pirates, slavers and others that come to steal and harass you, I wish to help you and your people be able to defend themselves, if you'll allow me."> The Sith Empire of course was the faction he meant first. The second but not the least, were the groups that took advantage of the remote forest moon and its people already. Perhaps in the Ewok's mind that was his priority. Both of them were equally important in the mind of the Alor.

"Whatever you are happy to teach us, we shall be humbled to learn." came the chittered reply, as Narpoo led them through a patch of undergrowth and into a small clearing, dotted on all sides with dense trees. The clearing was large, dominated by a small hill. "I would agree as well, Endor has long been a target for slavers and pirates - the former after the Ewoks, the latter looking for somewhere to move their ill-gotten gains, or lay low from the authorities." Narpoo sighed "Which in itself brings problems when the authorities come looking."

Briefly, Narpoo looked around at the woods, his home, and a crestfallen expression fell across his face. The last thing he wanted was a war here, but history showed that war didn't come only to those who wished for it.

"We've got a long history here of defending ourselves from technologically superior outsiders. With your help, however, I think we can ensure we do better this time around than last. Tell me, what do you make of the world, and the threats that could face us?"

<"It's my first time here but I am impressed. This is a beautiful place and one I wouldn't mind visiting again. What weapons have your people mastered?"> He continued in Mando'a, not knowing just how advanced in technology the Ewoks were. The tour would take them among some of his people and within view of their structures. So far it seemed like simple hunter and gatherer communities. Their treetop homes were elaborate and it was no surprise that the small people were able to move about and attack any invaders. <"I'm a good marksman myself. I can teach you how to shoot as can any Mandalorian with some time if that's something you would be interested in."> Of course there were benefits to the ways that the Ewoks fought so he was curious to hear any reasoning.

Kotii would stop walking for a moment so that he could have Narpoo's attention on a serious matter. <"There are people that we used to call brother and sisters. They believe that the Sith Empire can be trusted, that they won't turn on them. My tribe is now split, you see and I am at war with people I used to call family."> He heard Narpoo's words before saying this and wanted him to know all of this before going any further. <"I think they will eventually come here and perhaps with some help from us, you can defend what belongs to you."> Maybe they would prefer the Mandalorians left out of fear that it would attract the attention of the newer Sith Empire.

Narpoo looked quite considerably more worried now than he had when the Mandalorians had first arrived. He had not anticipated the threats facing his moon to be any larger than a few random skirmishes with pirates! Learning of entire armies of wrong-doers was not what he had expected. "With what you say, perhaps learning to shoot would be useful for our warriors? We still use what some consider 'outdated' weapons, after all." Narpoo added.

Hearing that her tribe was split, Narpoo knew that perhaps they could work together. "Perhaps training for our warriors is a good start, combining the way of the Mandalorians with the skills of our people?" he thought out loud, the droid garbling along with a translation. "We have used spears and other weapons of a more traditional design for centuries, alongside traps and the like. Blasters, and perhaps some more modern melee weapons, would go a long way to help us."

The helmeted head of the Alor of House Solus nodded after hearing the translated words from the droid. <"We can start whenever you have warriors interested in learning. I can get together what we brought but in a few days I can reach out to the rest of my tribe and have them bring more.">

<"Hauron, go back to the ship and unload medium and light blasters from the Werda Kom'rk.">
The young Mikkian nodded replying <"Yes father">

The Mandalorians were scattered and on the move. They were not in large groups or in one cohesive fleet. The Solus would be able to send a message out for small arms and other supplies to bring to Endor. Every Mandalorian was an army in their own right and the Werda Kom'rk had enough weapons to outfit quite a few Ewoks.

<"Where is a good place to practice shooting? Do you have a range or targets to try your luck on?"> He asked Narpoo. Some of the weapons wouldn't be weildable by the small beings. But the ones they could carry would serve as good practice blasters.
