As much as I would love to, on account it makes it easier for me, the rules are clear that it needs to be OPEN and PvP enabled I think.

Actually, open/pvp is usually the case. But you can work out an arrangement with your captor(s). This has been done with a Jedi not to long ago who fought (staff) dmed opposition in an ask thread. And a different Rebel who is doing it in a self-dmed thread. Open/pvp is the default unless a different agreement was made. Unless you really want to slug it out in open pvp, you can maybe still work out something with the Mandos.
