Commander Karn was silent for a moment. What the Cipher Agent was proposing was unbelievably risky and would put his own reputation on the line. Not only that but it could also cause an intergalactic incident with heated tension between Serenno and the Empire. Was that really worth it? Levik could almost hear the interim director berating him while the lieutenant-general stood over them both threatening to use his horns to impale him, like he used to do and did to Sith like Darth Asminys.

"I doubt you're flexible enough for a Catharese love-knot," Levik replied, referring to the signature trantric sexual techniques of the firrerreo's cousins. Whatever she thought to achieve by flashing those fangs, it probably wasn't a reference to a sexual position and for a moment Levik froze as he realized that there was a time and place for bringing up a Catharese love-knot and this -definitely- wasn't it. "Ahem," he corrected his uniform, "You think you can escape those stuncuffs on your own?" he looked around to see if there was anything sharp or pointy in her vicinity.

Knock-knock, "Eh Commander Levik," a voice on the other side of the door began and was easily recognizable as coming from Viscount Henry Palerma, "I mean, Commander Karn?" without waiting for a response the door slowly opened and revealed the pudgy human. "I thought I'd come and tell you how I overpowered these insurgents," he began as he walked closer to the bed and looked at the Cipher Agent in a way that could only be described as high on power and lustful.

Out of respect to the kid's father, and because Levik was gearing up mentally for a diplomatic incident in which he would probably need the Count's support, the commander remained silent and listened.

"I outstrategized them, you see-" he mixed strategy with tactics, a classic mistake, "-I positioned my men all around them without them every knowing or seeing our movements so intricately had I planned and instructed the men." In truth it had been an accidental discovery by tipsy militiamen looking to get a few cards in against a nobleman that was notoriously bad at both pazaak and sabacc, but who cared about those details, right? "I took one down in single-combat, I did. He was three times my size and a combat veteran like you-" he turned his head towards Levik, who did look like a military man with his tread and the rigidness around the shoulders, "-but I knew I had to keep some alive, too. So it wasn't like I forgot my blaster was on stun, sir-" he referenced Levik's earlier comment, "-but I stun this one on purpose." he turned towards the Cipher Agent with those lustful eyes again and that was about all the Commander could stomach.

"Right then, you should have the honor of uncuffing her from the bed then. Escort her to my shuttle, will you?" Levik said, thinking this allowed the Cipher both her chance and a moment of fun as she put the young noble in his place. More importantly it would allow him to safe face by once again pinning the whole thing on the viscount. "Where's your father?" the boy responded by way of pointing in a general direction further into the estate.

With that Commander Karn left the room and headed to the Count to discuss the terms of the prisoner transfer.

She stared with morbid curiosity as he mentioned the love knot, "I can appreciate the interesting setting of us in a bedroom and me in handcuffs, but really there is a time and place," She snickered in amusement.

Six shrugged at Levik’s question, “Not without breaking my thumbs,” She glanced down at the cuffs, “I think we need me to keep my thumbs,” She said dryly. Thankfully, an opportunity presented itself in the form of Henry of all people. When Levik gave him the task of freeing her, Six had to bite back a smile. It was as if Life Day came early.

“Oh..Oh me?” Henry blubbered at the idea of uncuffing her. For her part, Six appeared as defenseless as possible, which was extremely difficult to do. She got rid of the cigarra, for one, to avoid looking accidentally confident. Once the Commander was out of sight, Henry paused to look at her.

“You’re not so tough,” He snickered, “I had you down in one shot,” He said as he uncuffed her, “Woulda had my way too if those stupid Imperials didn’t show up.”

Six kept a straight face, allowing Henry to lead her out of the ‘cell’. To her surprise, he wasn’t taking her towards the shuttle.

“Where are we going?”

“Shut up bitch,” He spat, looking around. She didn’t know what he intended, but her patience had run its course. Abruptly, she yanked herself out of his grip. He turned to look at her and she slammed the top of her head against his face, shattering his nose. She yanked the blaster from his hip, switching to lethal before blowing a hole into his chest with the blaster pressed right against it.

Six managed to separate her hands in the cuffs with the keycard on Henry’s person. She knew people would come to investigate the noise, and she fled the scene to make her way to the other prisoner. She spotted a ‘guard’ standing outside a closet who panicked at the sight of her. Six leveled her blaster, “It’s not set to stun,” She said flatly. He bolted in the other direction, clearly not trained for a job like this. Six aimed and shot him in the leg to drop him where he was. She couldn't have reinforcements being called in sooner than intended. She also needed an eyewitness to corroborate that she helped the prisoner escape because Oracle would have intel feeding in.

Six yanked the closet door open to see the other prisoner beaten and bloody. He was in a daze, blood dribbling down his chin. Six cursed, shooting his binds off before yanking him up to stand. She practically dragged him out of there, relying on her Firrerreo strength. There was a balcony that oversaw some bushes and she promptly jumped out, landing in the garden and into the night.

Meanwhile the Count of Palerma wandered over to spot Levik. He had been walking about aimlessly, already appearing impatient, “Commander,” He said, “Have you seen my son? That boy will be the death of me,” He grumbled.

Levik was glad to have found the Count so fast as that would save him some walking around the estate in search of the man, but the first question asked did somehow surprise him. Surely if the Count truly cared for his fuck-up of a son he would've treated him better, instead of making him guard the Imperial depot like a lowborn lacky? "Actually, I have-" the Commander smiled as he thrust a thumb over his shoulder, "He's escorting the woman prisoner to my shuttle. I was just about to find you to discuss your pri-" -ice for them, he had wanted to say before they were both distracted by a sudden sound, eerily similar to that of a blaster.

The Count seemed rather annoyed, "I swear, if this kid shot another prisoner I'm going to-" he didn't finish his sentence as he walked passed Levik in the direction of what he assumed was his son shooting someone over not complying with his 'nobles wishes'. It wouldn't be the first time, either. Back when he was still treated like a Viscount he had almost gotten away with..

"HENRY!?" almost the entire estate heard the desperate wail of the Count as the poor man rushed over to his son, whose body lie lifelessly on the hallway floor. Levik was soon to arrive at the scene and witnessed how the father held the son in his embrace, tears running down his cheeks as he rocket for- and backwards as if to cradle the innocent boy that had once been his beloved son.

"Commander," one of Levik's peacekeepers rushed over from behind him, "the prisoners have escaped." and that little tidbit of news caused the count to look up at the Commander. "This is all your fault, this is all the Empire's fault!" he cried in anger as more and more Serenno guards arrived, holding vibro-rapiers or blaster pistols and thinking that it had been Levik to shoot and kill the kid based on what they heard the father say.

"You're under arrest, Imperials," a man appeared that wore a sash over his guard uniform to symbolize his rank as the 'Captain of the Guard'. "Hand over your weapons."

Nothing moved quickly when the Empire was still getting its bearings. It took a few days before intel reached all the way to the top and Altair was informed. An Imperial Commander thrown into a neutral world prison - especially a world that was Sith-leaning - wasn’t something he would stand for. Not only that, but this particular Commander was involved in a massive insurgent case that Altair and only a handful of others were privy to.

As a result, the Warmaster himself made the trip to Serenno to get his critical resource out of prison as soon as possible. Negotiations were tough, especially since the Warmaster was responsible for destroying a Serrenian palace when he killed both the Sith Empress and Councilor Trelain. Even if he provided funding and reparations, the locals were always a bit uneasy around him.

It took several weeks of deliberation until Altair had to agree to a prisoner swap. There was a known cultist imprisoned on Raxus that was held as leverage. At the end of the day, Altair valued his officers more. He would negotiate to the best of his ability since he couldn’t afford to use brute force to get his way. Nor did that align with the principles on which he built this new Empire.

Eventually, the swap was arranged and the Serranians got back their prisoner and Altair was there to receive Karn. He hadn’t met the man, but he heard quite a bit about him and his quick rise through the ranks.

Levik Karn had been transferred to an actual detention facility along with his peacekeepers. The others would be stuck for now, but Altair secured Karn’s release. The tiefling was waiting at the main office for Karn to be brought out by local authorities.

It wasn't the daily beatings or the lack of decent food that got to him. Levik understood the need for a father to avenge his son. Eventually the news of the prisoner swap reached him and also the identity of the prisoner he was to be swapped for. Sith Academy dropout turned Sith Cultist Supreme Baron Dok Van Hass. A man responsible for ritual sacrifices in honor of the Dark Lords of the Sith of a mystical power he could only hardly sense himself. Whoever made this deal should've let Levik rot.

No single individual was worth giving a man like Baron Van Hass his freedom again. His freedom to no doubt turn his estate into a new shrine of devotion to the Sith Order. Levik could already see the faces of the innocents that would be sacrificed in the name of long-dead egomaniacs and him being helpless to stop any of it.

His cell was nothing more than a few square feet with a single matras and a durasteel bench. The toilet could be pulled from the wall and Levik was thankful for that one. It saved him from spending his days in the smell of his own feces. Food was administered through a suction-tube and both flavorless and rationed. Imperial design, the peacekeeper had remarked at the beginning of his time at the detention facility. All of it was Imperial design. Serenno had profited much from the boost in technology that Imperial engineering had provided them and now it felt like it was the Empire that held him prisoner instead of its long lost cousin.

"Prisoner Twelve/dash/thirteen. Levik Karn," the guard said as the door to his cell swung open. "We're going to hit the showers and then you get you personal affects back. Your Emperor is bailing you out personally." Levik blinked a few times, stupified by the news and wondering how long he had exactly been in this cell. A few months at best, he thought, but had they really elected a new Emperor in the interim!? And why would someone of such rank lower themselves to come and bail out a few peacekeepers on a neutral world so far from Imperial territory.

30 minutes later and he stepped into the office, with a bad shave, bewildered look and a uniform that hadn't been pressed and cleaned for months. This was a far cry from how he usually presented himself and this time he was meeting...

"Lieutenant-general Din," Levik quickly said and snapped to attention, which was proper Imperial protocol in situations like this. Or wait, had he supposed to call him Emperor? No, the uniform the Tiefling was wearing was clearly still that of a lieutenant-general.

If Altair had an opinion on Karn’s appearance, it certainly didn’t manifest on his face.

“At ease,” He stated before he gave a curt nod to the Serrenian officials. Altair turned and began to walk, expecting Karn to join him. They were walking back to a private transport where Karn would be joining Altair on the ride back to Imperial space.

“I will keep working on getting your men out,” Altair explained as they walked. His posture was more relaxed than back in the prison facility. He was among his own people again, always comfortable in the presence of Imperials, “Your two main priorities are 1) to re-engage your operation and do a welfare check on your operative and 2) coordinate with the ISB to make Van Hass disappear for good,” He didn’t like the idea of the transfer, not when it was a heinous criminal. However, Altair wasn’t going to let the man go right back to what he was doing. They had to strike fast before his trail ran cold from the release. With luck, he would die right here in Serenno and there would be no proof of Imperial involvement.

The tiefling stepped into the private shuttle, glancing over at the soldier, “And get a proper shave,” He smirked.

“Do you have anything else to report?” Altair asked before they took off. He had been debriefed on what happened till now, but he would listen to any other color commentary Levik had to add.

Levik was -for the first time- in the presence of the lieutenant-general. Well, not the first time, for he had once had the pleasure of being invited to the celebrations of the succesful Expulsion of the Sith Order where he had watched the Tiefling dance with the now presumedly-deceased Director. When it came to brass, it was always best to only speak when spoken to and thus Levik followed the lieutenant-general wordlessly to his private transport.

That is, until the Tiefling spoke the very words that were on his own mind, too. "I will see them done before the end of the week, lieutenant-general," he replied after receiving his two priorities from the highest-ranked imperial in the current Empire. Cipher Six had been on Levik's mind a lot in these past few months and the harsh reality of their situations hadn't gone unnoticed. He might've been imprisoned, ill-fed and on the receiving end of several weekly beatings, but at least he knew the Serennians wouldn't kill him out of fear of an intergalactic incident. The same couldn't be said for the Cipher, who worked in the dark with the constant fear of death and betrayal on her mind.

It was the smirk and the comment on his bad shave that surprised the Commander. He had heard rumors of the Tiefling's casual attitude out of his uniform, but this level of emotional maturity wasn't often seen amongst the Imperial ranks. "A hot shower and a shave, sir. That's the dream," but first there was work to be done.

He didn't have anything else that was more pressing than the priorities the lieutenant-general had just given him, so once aboard the shuttle he eyed the conference room. "I know the codes by heart," he referred to the transmit and receiver codes with which he could communicate with the Cipher. Perhaps if he had been imprisoned for a shorter time he would have been more tempted to share his account of what he at the time viewed as rather reckless behavior from a Cipher Agent. Yet, now that he had the time to think about it were those exact impulses that made Cipher Agents excell at their jobs. It was always simply a pain for the handlers. Like, spending months in a prison. "So if I could have permission to use the conference room?"

If he received permission he would make sure to activate the Imperial encryption keys so the long-distance communicator couldn't be listened in on or spoofed and then left a simple coded message for the Cipher to receive. Translation it would read as follows;

[ Request Contact Stop Thursday 0100 Raxus time Stop Previous line End ]

He didn't know where she'd be, but this transmission on long range could travel almost the entire galaxy in time for her to respond. She would only have to call Yakotori Seafood and Supplies to let him know she was still alive.

After sending the message, Levik left the conference room and headed for the lounge area of the private transport that sported a small kitchenette and -to nobody's surprise- the best caf the Empire had to offer. Subconsciously his right hand went into his pocket and he pulled out his golden lighter with the crest of the Eriadu Naval Academy engraved on it. A graduation present and boy, did he need a smoke right now.

The day and time came and went. And the next day. And the next. With each passing day, it became unclear whether Six had been captured or dead. Even worse, there was no intel on her last known location.

It was a full two weeks until that comms line rang again.

“This is Madam Clara,” The voice said, familiar, but weary. She said nothing for a moment. Seconds ticked by, but he would know she was still on the line, “Escargot is a delicacy where I am,” Hutt space, “The days are getting harder. I don’t know how much longer I have,” She hesitated. She paused. The threat of that audible click of the line disconnecting loomed in the air.

Once the lieutenant-general's personal transport had touched down on Raxus, Levik immediately boarded another. This time it was a small freighter and the Captain's quarters were reserved for the Commander. Inside was a familiar bag and inside a familiar armor. Peacekeeper Armor with the Commander insignia on the shoulders and chest. Aside from the crew several others of the Tarisian peacekeepers were onboard preparing their weapons and armor for a special assignment.

Fifteen hours later and Baron Dok Van Hass was blissfully asleep in his kingsize bed, hugging the satin sheets as he enjoyed his refound freedom. After he landed earlier that day he had engorged himself on all the Serrenno delicacies he had missed dearly and then gave in to his other desires with his estranged wife and two younger servant girls. From his bedroom in the east wing he couldn't hear how they now tried to cry themselves to sleep.

He was so content that he slept like a baby and didn't notice the balcony door slowly opening. Only a shimmering of moonlight was noticeable, but the light seemed to morph more and more as the Commander stepped closed to the bed. From within his tunic he retrieved the DX-2 Disruptor Pistol that he owned for assignments like this one. Without uttering a word, he aimed the pistol at the sleeping Baron and pulled the trigger. The Sith Cultist and all-around horrible sentient desintegrated in front of his eyes. The sheets were slowly pulled away as he intended to take the man's pyjama's with him, but there were none. The Baron had slept in the nude.

Content that there had been no proof of foul play, after all the Baron could've just disappeared out of his own free will, Levik pocketed the pistol, pulled the sheets up and slowly left the room again. The Imperial-made cloaking device proving its worth once again.

________________

He had been back in time for the scheduled check-in with Cipher Six, but she had been a no show. This had been worrisome, to say the least, and Levik had for the first time in his career not just berated commanders in the Imperial Armed Forces, but even overseers in the Imperial Security Bureau. In his mind they had dropped to ball to not replace him as Cipher Six' handler and put her in a needless amount of added danger while she had no doubt tried to reach him for months following her re-insertion.

Meanwhile Levik's Tarisian office had been abandoned due to the Imperial declassify the planet as having no strategic value. It was too far away from the main imperial territories now and didn't warrant a full complementary fleet and Imperial Security Bureau offices. Not wanting to miss out on the long-distance messages, he had commandeered a Pugio-class Frigate and parked it in the Ojoster Sector near Taris. The fancy bottles of cognac had been replaced by opened half-empty bottles of Spiced Rum from Agamar and he hadn't bothered fetching a class for it either.

Then, finally, Cipher Six replied. He didn't like her tone of voice. Not the feeling behind it, so he wouldn't beat around the bush this time either. "Oracle's identity," he stated it more than it was a question. She should know by now, or else all of this would've been for nothing. The imprisonment, the deaths, the sleepless nights. "Find the 'Haradan' on Nar Shaddaa for extraction."

The Haradan. Pugio-class Imperial Frigate. He had been granted to honor of naming a frigate and he had decided to name it after a pirate vessel that had escaped him two years ago. Ben of the Haradan, the name of the pirate had always lingered in the back of Levik's head.

The Pugio-class Imperial Frigate had entered cartel space five days ago. Commander Karn had several remarkably tiring holo-calls with representatives of the Desilijic Clan that ruled over these parts since before they had even left Taris, culminating in an agreement that he would shut down his engines in the middle of black space and wait. The intelligence officers he had taken with him to man the long-range comms the frigate was known for had objected to this course of action vehemently and yet Levik -who had officially assumed command of the 'Haradan'- had complied to the cartel's demands anyway.

He knew the shady parts of the galaxy much better than the Imperial-generation ever would. After all, he was partners with both the boss of an aftermarket Exchange, the Troig Eccle'baal, and a known gang boss and pirate, the Klatoonian Gentis Freem. He knew that being an Imperial, he would simply have to spend more Imperial credits to secure safe passage than any other ship crossing the cartel's borders in hope of finding a dock on Nar Shaddaa.

So there he was. Dead in Space.

In direct violation of protocols concerning uniformed code of conduct, Levik sat slanted in the captain's chair on the bridge of the 'Haradan' and -Clack- played with the golden lighter -Click- that had been a graduation present from the Eriadu Naval Academy, -Clack. He was itching to light up a cigarette or get a taste of any liquor, but military vessels usually forbade both while engaged in an operation or travelling through unfriendly territory. "Commander Karn," the radar-officer turner her chair towards him, "We've got one vessel incoming."

Sighing to undo some of the stress that was building up, Levik sat up straight and clenched the lighter in his hand. This was the moment of truth. Either the Hutt Cartel would blast them away, or it would notify them they were going to board to pick up their tribute. Either way, them showing up with just the one ship seemed promising that it might be the latter option.

Since the Hutt Cartel had disengaged from broader galactic conflicts, they had invested considerably in expanding the defences on their border. A web of small space stations dotted key ingress positions, loaded with fighters to rapidly engage possible assailants and, more importantly, to take the required tribute payments Lordas expected.

One such station hung lazily before the approaching Imperial now.

"Welcome to Hutt Space." the commander of the station intoned over a comlink to the approaching vessel "Please stand by for an inspection." not a single inspection ship left the station. Instead, a request for an 'inspection fee' would appear on Leviks datapad.

The amount was significant enough to be worthwhile, but not to much so as to be insulting. There was no request for the name or identifier of the ship, nor for its cargo, just a request for payment. Businesslike, just as the Hutts liked it.

Once the payment was made, the ship would be able to continue unmolested.

The prompt on Commander Karn's datapad showed the requested transfer of a sizable amount of credits. An amount of such size would seriously hamper this operation's budget and force him to request additional funding from the director. Yet, with his agent's life on the line working an operation that threatened to destabilize the entirity of Altaïr Din's new Empire? Levik didn't hesitate to transfer the requested sum.

"Tell the knights they no longer need to hide and have them change into their usual uniforms again," Commander Karn ordered a nearby imperial, who nodded and immediately left the bridge. In order to not unnecessarily frustrate the Desilijic clan, Levik had told the Imperial Knights that he had brought with him on board the 'Haradan' to dress up as ordinary imperial sailors. Just in case the cartel wanted to come aboard for an inspection and would take affront to there being Force users -and former Sith- enroute to their precious jewel.

The Empire had not forgotten the mistakes of the First Blade of the Empire nor Darth Caelestis.

When it was done, a mere signal from Levik restarted their engines and the Pugio-class Frigate continued its prepared route towards Hollastin. Having the freedom to travel through Hutt space would be a boon to their investigation and operational options to find out the Oracle's identity and stop this insurgency.

A few more weeks went by without a word. Six was deep in Hutt space, deep inside the web and making progress every day. Having Dram was a game changer. He had all the insurgents eating out the palm of his hand, and his ideas had been excellent.

“This is Madam Clara,” Her familiar voice resounded, sounding more positive than it did the last time they spoke, “I’ve gained an audience with them..just on holo. Gender confirmed female. I’m running the missions closer to them,” She had more freedom now and could speak freely on these calls, “I need a Knight for a job transporting…magic items,” Six used code anyway, but he’d know she meant Sith artifacts, “A good Knight,” The ones she had heard of thus far were either absent or only good at overt gigs. This called for someone that could be discreet and play any role needed to get the job done.

Commander Karn's trip to Hollastin had forced him to spend a couple days in the medical bay of the 'Haradan' and then an entire week on restricted duties. It wasn't easy to rid his body from the after-effects of this synthetic form of glitterryll, or for his mind to process what he had learned in the headquarters of the Mothkari Crime Family. Their advancement in black market cybernetics was shocking and in a galaxy that relied more and more on droids to do the work instead of -increasingly lazy- sentients, Levik worried for whatever that female cyborg said she'd contact him for.

What he had learned is that 'it' involved artefacts and that -unlike the Exchange and the Crimson Dawn- the Mothkari Crime Family did not deal in such items. In other words: a very costly dead end. Hopefully Cipher Six had more luck from within the insurgency.. and when she called he was sitting in the captain's quarters onboard the Haradan, typing out some long-overdue operation after-action reports.

"Good. It's a she," Levik replied and couldn't help but let his mind drift toward the female cyborg that had drugged and interrogated him. She'd fit the bill, wouldn't she? "focus on artefacts independently verified," the Cipher mentioned 'magic items' was all they needed to corroborate the Mothkari intel. Apparently this Oracle was involved in some way with artefacts and considering she was targeting the Empire, Levik felt comfortable in narrowing that down further to Sith Artefacts. If they were to confirm that suspicion, then Six' transporting job had to be a success. Levik opened the list of Imperial Knights that he had brought along with him for this journey into Hutt Space and there was really only one man that fit the description of a 'good knight'. "I'm sending you our best, Cipher. Don't get him killed." and by doing so, don't get yourself killed, either. Unspoken, but communicated nevertheless. Why else would he send her the most valuable knight the Empire had in its arsenal?

Another two months passed. Six had no idea that the Imperials were leading an assault on Dathomir. The comms line rang after a while, “This is Madam Clara,” She said. She was in a safe location and for once didn’t need the codes, “Oracle’s name confirmed Vivienne,” Six said, “Considering the data on the type of smuggling and the Sith we’ve engaged, I have concluded that this is the leader of Crimson Dawn. Need your help in drilling down the location and we can move in.”

This was it.

Levik had been pulled out of the docking maneuver to answer a call on the 'special line'. The cipher couldn't have better timing, for the Haradan had finally reached the Smuggler's Moon and was taking up quite the space at the spaceport district. "Tell me you got something useful, Cipher-" the Commander asked as he accepted the call.

What Cipher Six told him was both surprising as completely logical. Vivienne Donatade was the leader of the Crimson Dawn and a former member of The Collective that lead the Five Syndicate coalition. She might have had to let Preef of the Crymorah and Nor'baal of the cartel stand in the spotlight as galactic crimelords of note, but Levik knew that the Troig Eccle'baal had always thought that she had done so on purpose. Let others get the spotlight and face the wrath of law enforcement agencies across the galaxy. She had been at the top of the galactic underworld for 30 years. The Crimson Dawn had -under her leadership- become noted collectors of Sith Artefacts and with her network within the galactic underworld and the resources she could pull, it was almost embarrassing that the Imperial Security Bureau didn't flag her as a person-of-interest sooner. Them not doing so... was a sign of just how formidable Vivienne Donatade was.

What in the world did she have against the Empire?

"Get to the Haradan, Cipher Six, we'll assemble a team" Levik replied as he took the other communicator out of his pocket and shot a message to the Troig. The Exchange would be able to help him find Vivienne Donatade. If only to get them a 'meet' under false pretenses. Even with a location and a window of opportunity, taking on the leader of the Crimson Dawn wasn't a small feat. The Imperial Security Bureau had to send in their best for a strike team that could potentially be skilled and geared enough to out-blaster Preef Callo, out-doublecross Nor'baal the Hutt and most importantly of all: Out-think Vivienne -the kriffing Oracle- Donatade.
