DESCRIPTION
The Class VI bulk freighter is a heavy transport manufactured by the Corellian Engineering Corporation. One of the company's older designs, it is based on the hull-form of the ancient Praetorian-class frigate, the design of which was acquired by CEC after manufacturer Rendili Hyperworks was liquidated following bankruptcy. Although obsolete as a warship, CEC saw potential in the design, and put a variant into production.

The Class VI, although based on a military design, has been significantly down-rated in terms of performance. Still 280 meters in length, its cargo capacity has been doubled to 20,000 standard tons, at the cost of any ability to carry starfighters, although there is still a small hangar bay which can accommodate 2 shuttles, usually used for ferry work, moving cargo to and from small spaceports without the facilities to handle a ship the size of a Class VI. Its hull, rather than the original duranium, is standard durasteel, although its combat-rated structural elements remain in place, giving the Class VI a high degree of durability. The ship has a top speed of 40 MGLT, down from the 55 of the Praetorian, and has a class 4 hyperdrive. Consumables allow for voyages lasting up to 2 years, if necessary.

Due to a high degree of automation and general simplification, the Class VI has a very small crew, just 4 beings, including a pilot, copilot, engineer and gunner. 6 passengers can also be carried.

Notably, the Class VI is armed, being equipped with a single dorsal turret mounting a single light turbolaser, a holdover from the design's heritage as a warship. Though powerful, this cannon cannot traverse quickly enough to deal with most starfighters, although it is deadly against other freighters and even some light warships.

Overall, the Class VI is a sturdy, reliable design, having been kept in production by CEC for centuries, and likely to exist for centuries yet. Notably, although its similarities to its ancestor are plain, the ship's down-rated systems and construction materials have frustrated most attempts to turn them into warships, at least not without significant effort.

LEGALITY
Legal. Bulk freighters such as the Class VI are considered innocuous enough under most jurisdictions, and are not restricted in most systems. Their turbolaser armament may draw scrutiny in some, however.

INTENT
To bring a vessel from Legends to our site's fanon.

RESTRICTIONS
Though not especially rare, Class VI transports can carry a phenomenal amount of cargo, and are not ideal for personal ownership, as they are much more expensive to maintain and operate than a standard light freighter. They are typically faction assets, although they could also serve as the focal point of a player-run business venture.
