The "Galactic Evolution"

Here goes nothing... She thought and entered room 101 on deck 101, designed officially for briefings. It was a shiny room all in all. When one entered trough one of the two doors all to the left and right, one immediately oversaw some descending rows of compfy chaurs and connected rows of tables, much like a colliseum. Down at the centre, a pedestrial with a holoprojector took place, usually used for three dimensional briefings but right now fed with a slightly rewritten program.

Good thing she Meditated until she was drawn out of the Meditation by the ship wide message asking each and every Padawan interested in learning the Jedi Code and Code of Conduct to be in this room in... A quick look on her watch revealed she had two more minutes left. Good good.

Clad in her light blue Jedi robe with black accents she posted herself next to the holoprojector and waited for the Padawans interested in more then just the Force tricks to arrive.

[Thread rules: response within 48hrs or getting skipped; Open to all Padawans until the lesson starts; No death

Felix had been occupying himself by tossing up his wrench and catching it in his hand over and over. He started whistling and staring at the wall as he did this, having nothing else to really do. He was away from his own ship and most of his parts, so he didn't have any droids to put together or anything to tinker with. So, he was just waiting for something to happen. The fact that his family members were still missing troubled him to no end, but he tried not to show it. He had a lot to learn from the Jedi, and it was better to do this than to run into trouble. Besides, part of being a Jedi was to practice patience. At least, that's what he'd heard. He was usually patient anyway, but in times like this, it was hard.

When the ship-wide message came on about padawans reporting to a different room, Felix quickly set the wrench down. It was the basics of the basics about being a Jedi, but still valuable. After all, Felix really didn't know anything. He had a run-down of the Jedi Code and what it meant, but nothing in detail. He didn't fully understand it all. He turned his attention from the ever-interesting wall and walked out of the room. He took his time getting there, since he wasn't too familiar with the layout. However, as he walked into the briefing room, he felt like he got here too early. The only other person there at the moment was the teacher.

"Hey!" He greeted the teacher rather loudly, with a wave of his hand. He hurried over to one of the seats and took a seat, then looked around the room with interest, making him look distracted already.

Verac was a complete noob. Somebody had picked him up off the street, calmed his mind, made him aware of his acute sensitivity to The Force. His connection was...very acute. Uncontrollable, even. However, the most important...and obvious...point to Verac was that he was young. Young, impressionable, and lacking a guiding hand most of his life.

He had ended up at this lesson through various means of taxiing, shuttling, words of mouth, and other means. Verac lacked goals, purpose, at least in the present. His only long term goal was to discover the truth of the disappearance of his parents at the hands of the Imperium, one way or another. Until then, he needed to work his way up to something. Become stronger.

So, the strange new padawan entered the room, packing a blaster pistol on his side and dressed in very old and worn street clothes. He was unsure about how to address or approach his new teacher, for the time, and simply settled on a rather enthusiastic wave before finding a seat.

Taruna was astonished. She actually expected her first class to be a complete bust and already imagined herself standing at the very same spot she was not as a skeleton, waiting for students that never would arrive. But then the door opened and two padawan entered, what meant that there were padawans in need of training out there. She smiled at them in a friendly manner "Welcome, you two. It seems to be a rather cosy class, so please come closer, take a seat and make yourself comfortable. I will start the class in a few moments."

You know what the funny thing about ceilings was? Sometimes when you're stuck staring at them they stare back. For real, try it sometime. Khivas was trying it at that moment and the ceiling of his bunk inside the Galactic Evolution definitely stared back at him. The white alabaster color washed in and out of his conscious vision, images of the recent past blaring in front of him in a display both angry and calm, from the events on Naboo all the way up to now all flashed in front of him as Khivas thought back and meditated on them, drawing on all of his training and knowledge and skills, how each one had come into play to keep him alive and how some newer ones had been learned.

All of it came to a crashing close however when Khivas closed his eyes and quieted his mind, knowing that it's bad practice for any person, let alone a Jedi, to dwell too hard or too long on their past. Sitting up in his bed, the young man stared at the rest of the room, noting his equipment scattered about it, noting the surroundings being a mess before catching a glimpse of himself in the mirror. "And damn, aren't you ugly." He thought to himself as Khivas barely recognized the man staring back at him.

Gone was the poor street rat from Corellia, thieving and pick-pocketing to survive. Gone was the young, rash freedom fighter who strived only to free his world one city block at a time. Gone was the young bounty hunter and mercenary, the one who hid what he was in order to survive a world turned against him. There sat instead now a man who had grown into his own yet remained such a babe in the water. A man that knew so much yet knew nothing at all, with only the fact that he had a long ways to go until he was truly to be considered a Jedi.

Getting up from the bedside to go stand in the mirror now, Khivas gazed at his face, wondering just what exactly had happened to him all those years ago, only a few months ago even, trying to figure out where it was along the way that he went from being the young innocent one to the guy that can forge weapons and armor for wandering fools who stumbled their way into the Jedi, to helping old friends reconcile with their darkness, or being an apprentice to a man who seemed almost monolithic in his power, causing Khivas, for all his haughtiness and occasional arrogance, to feel incredibly unworthy. The burn scar from the lightsaber still rested on his face, a grim reminder of the night he lost Ayso, his friends, and the marking of an end to his childhood, not that being a teenage freedom fighter didn't do that job well enough as is.

And yet it also served as a staunch reminder of something else. He was still alive, he had survived that night and all the nights thereafter, all the years thereafter leading up until now. Sith Lords, Stormtroopers, Hutts, Gangs, Mandalorian Mercenaries, Rogue Force users, Space Pirates, he had survived them all and came out stronger for it. While he didn't quite know who it was staring back at him, he did at least feel assured enough that he wasn't such a bad guy at all.

Moving over to the temperature control panel, Khivas reached up and tried to alter the room's AC to cool off a bit, and that's when the message came in telling him that if he wanted a lecture on the Jedi Code and Jedi Conduct Codes, to report to Briefing Hall 2b, and since Khivas didn't feel like working out, sparring, or even practicing actual Force techniques for once decided that instead of sitting inside his bunk feeling all mopey and dwelling too hard on the past, he decided that he could use the distraction, both for his amusement as he was rather...Unorthodox in his view of the Conduct Codes, especially when he gazed down at the bottle of the cider from Naboo, a parting gift from a certain "friend" from a cantina not too long ago.

But alas, as Khivas walked down the halls without his armor or blaster, only the black jumpsuit and his lightsaber, he felt a smile cross his lips as he searched out the room, and with his mood lifted, opened the door and greeted those inside, moving to a seat behind them and bowing to the instructor, yet another person who was a knight and younger than him by a pretty decent margin, and thus sitting down, ready for the lecture to begin.

Felix waved enthusiastically at the other padawan that entered the room after him. He put on a big smile that seemed genuine enough, more than eager to learn about the ways of the Jedi and how this was going to help him with his other training. He didn't even know how to meditate yet, and although he learned a little bit, he never felt like it helped much. He figured that he was just doing it wrong, but he never wanted to admit that. Then yet another padawan entered the room and Felix waved at him as well. At least, he thought this person was a padawan. The guy had a lightsaber, and now that Felix thought about it, he never really got to see one up close. Well, that wasn't important right now. What was important was the task at hand, which was learning the Jedi Code.

When the instructor told them to take a seat closer to the front, Felix rose from the chair he was in, and began to run up to the front. However, as soon as he went for a chair, he tripped. He would have fallen right on his face if he wasn't used to something like this happening. Instead, he extended his arms in front of him and turned the fall into a roll, and then jumped right back up to his feet. He smiled a bit awkwardly and sat down in a chair near the front.

"Just thought I'd spice things up a little bit!" He said with a laugh. "Things were kinda boring around here!" Because if he ever made a clumsy mistake, it was always deliberate. When he fell while leaning against his ship, crash-landed on Tatooine, and even when he cut the wrong wire when doing repairs for a client. Totally on purpose and for a good reason. He leaned back in the chair with a confident smile, waiting patiently for the class to begin.

Kade had settled in for a time onboard probably one of the largest ships he'd been on. Exploring it, checking out the internals and getting a feel for the technology that was used in its construction. Wandering the halls and ducking every now and then to avoid low hanging cielings, lights or other bits was a common thing for the giant fuzzball that made his way through. Eventually he went to the 101st deck and the 101st room, surprisingly he didn't think such a ship could have so many decks! The Kushari made his way up to the door and slowly stepped inside, sporting a comfortable set of clothes with his utility belt with him the fellow stuck out like a wookiee at a shaving contest. He looked to the other Padawans in the room and gave a wave, mildly shy in nature as he had yet to meet any of these fellows and this was a class. It felt.. strange and it made him slightly uneasy.

Even moreso was that their teacher was a bleedin' Chiss! An alien species he had -zero- understanding of aside from them being rather blue and a touch icy by reputation. His size made making use of the simple seats to be a tough situation and so he just sat down somewhere that was comfortable and played with the bracer mounted computer he had. Setting it to record so he could keep this for future reference and settled in. Eventually the Gold Tiger spoke up "Hello." He smiled. It was a toothy smile but not an unfriendly one though. He kept himself in pristine condition so a pearly white smile could be seen as a good thing, least from his understanding of humans said.

Leah couldnt quite believe the scope of the vessel she was now roaming the halls of, slowing making her way towards the 101st deck and 101st room... she couldnt help herself, the vessel was too grand and epic not to curiously study at an almost leisurely pace. Her own shipDawn Charger was a fairly hefty piece of kit, but this ship put it to shame; if there was one thing she didnt like though it was that it seemed so... sterile. It clashed sharply with the interior of her own ship to the point it was jarring, while clean and nicely lit, the Dawn Charger was hues of yellows and heated oranges splashed with the ill green glow from the navicomp and interfaces.
Finally she made her way to the desired deck with only the clack of her boots to audibly announce her presence, twin lightsabers of her own construction sat upon her utility belt and she wore her sleeveless bodysuit, just incase, afterall it was her go to piece of garb. The robes didnt often sit too well on her shoulders.
Room 101.
With a long inhale to gather herself she stepped inside, looking over those within with quiet study as she settled not far inside the room "I'm not late am i?" and she offered the room at large a rather adorable, though sheepish smile.

It was somewhat elevating and daunting to see that there appeared to be a bigger interest in the Jedi Code then she believed. Which was a good thing, since the skills to fight and defend yourself and others were nice, but even the greatest power was nothing without control and purpose. It was just too bad that Aeryun was not here yet, Taruna would have loved to see her here, giving either support to her class or make it awful hard for her to concentrate.

Good thing she got the files of all Padawans currently aboard from Night owl, so she could try and impress them.

Anyways, she responded to the respectful bow of Khivas with an even bow and a smile "Greetings Khivas".
She guessed he was here to get a deeper understanding in the code. And Felix.. well.. She watched his fall and quick attempt to turn it into something else, watching his body reacting with reflexes only a Jedi could have. She wondered if some training would help him later "Please be careful, Felix. Breaking your neck in my class will forever tarnish my reputation" .. which she did not have yet.

When Kade entered, she was quite impressed with this cat-person's height, and only smiled softly as he struggled to take a seat. "Thanks for joining us, Kade"

And then, when she was about to start, the door opened again, and the young blonde woman arrived, asking if she was too late. With a friendly grin she answered "In the nick of time, Leah. I am about to start. Please take a seat"

On the press of a button, the doors closed and would only open from the outside when someone was ringing, but remained to offer free passage for those wishing to leave. The lights also dimmed and the holo-projector on her right started to do his job showing the words

<Jedi Code>

"Welcome to this basic class about the jedi code." she smiled and spoke while the others were still busy getting seated "Today I will explain to you the very basics of what differentiates us from the sith, most of the other force sensitive organisations and will help you understand why this is so important to us"

She walked some careful steps so she stood in front of the word and proceeded in a fluid and energetic tone. She loved this topic.

"Do not be alarmed, this is very dry-as-dust, but I will only use a small portion to teach you the things you need to know, and will start an open conversation so you can clear up mistakes, things you did not understand or want to clarified. There are actually as much opinions of the code as there are Jedi, and albeit each of them looks at them from a different angle," the words behind her were now accompanied with a multitude of words spelling 'Jedi Code' in different languages and definitions "giving them different means, these are only possible because each of them knows the code at its basic form, a solid base to expand upon and build your own definition of what the jedi code may be and should be." she looked at each of them with a warning, but not too serious look "I expect you all not to fall asleep too fast."

Leah made her way inside and sat herself down quietly, crossed her legs and leaning forward attentively. It was clear that her current Chiss teacher, Taruna, had her complete attention. Much like her, Leah found the topic deeply interesting, it had captivated her since she truly discovered the Force within herself and earned the rank of Padawan. Now all that was left was to explore that want for knowledge. "You dont have to worry about me" she called out as she adjusted herself one last time "I'll be wide awake" and with that she offered a polite smile and returned to attentive quietness.

Verac raised his hand at when it became silent enough. He understood ideology well enough, but its application seemed to be the important part...especially in a relevant sort of way. The Sith were the Jedi's enemy, though perhaps not his enemy. Each faction had a code, and each believed they were right. Why? If Verac could understand both of these parties, he'd easier further his own goals...and maybe pick the best side for him.

"Ma'am, will we be comparing and contrasting this to the code of the Sith as well? Surely our written moral compass can't stand in a vacuum, correct?"

As Taruna did her best to act as the role of teacher and guider, Khivas sat patiently and quietly in the back, watching as faces old and new poured in, filling the vacant seats of the classroom. It was odd, this sensation, having so many people younger than he around him all studying the same topic, and the teacher of said topic being a teenager, but at the same time as Taruna lit up the display and paced around speaking, she didn't give off the least bit of evidence that she was but a babe in the water. She stood with enthusiasm, confidence, and a bearing befit of a knight.

"I guess that's why she was promoted and I'm still here..." Khivas thought, realizing his own stature and bearing as a Jedi wasn't exactly the most knightly of things, but rather still very rogue like, very mercenary like, and despite him helping others, it was always as an order from the council. "Ever the soldier." Khivas' own voice said in the back of his mind, mocking him and his approach to things. "Perhaps you're right. Maybe I'll rethink my stance on being a Jedi after this, but for now, let's just sit and watch." He replied back to the voice, and listened as the other students spoke up and gave their input and asked their questions, one of which caught Khivas' attention strongly.

"Will we be comparing the Sith code to the Jedi code?"

What a question, and at first Khivas wanted to object and say that he should be wary of such things, that if best it would do wonders to try and avoid any and all Sith teachings. Then he remembered how he had first met Rakkir, and during their first few years together traded secrets of the Jedi and Sith with each other, particularly their codes and upbringings, and it was these "teachings" that Khivas learned that the Sith truly were evil, even those among them with the best of intentions were always twisted and corrupted by the Dark Side Of The Force, turning everything they knew and loved to ash as they paved a fresh road to hell on those good intentions of theirs.

With this thought in mind, Khivas would take his turn to speak up, and in doing so said "I'd normally say be careful with that line of thought, wanting to learn the Sith Code, but I feel that I should probably speak on experience on this one and simply say that the Sith are called evil for a reason. Reasons I've seen and felt first hand." as his hand reached up from his crossed-arm position and rubbed the scar going across his eye and nose. "I'm sure Master Taruna will help you compare, but believe you me kid, the Sith Code is all about asserting your dominance and will over others as you lose control of yourself, and not for a minute caring about those around you as your very essence is twisted and shrouded in darkness."

After realizing that he may have spoken a bit too loud, Khivas awkwardly cleared his throat and with a very muffled "Ahem", simply bowed his head and shied away from the others as he waited for Taruna to continue the lesson.

Felix shrugged at the Knight's response to his fall. He'd probably find his sister before he'd break his neck in a simple Jedi Code class. There was no way he'd let himself get that embarrassed. As he looked around the classroom at the other padawans, he figured that Jedi came from all walks of life, which gave him a bit more hope about fitting in. It was in the back of his mind, but he was wondering if he was really Jedi-like. He'd learn, of course. That was why he was here. He turned his attention back to the instructor and folded his arms on his lap. He didn't have anything to record the class with, but he was sure he'd remember everything!

The Knight opened the floor for discussion and questions, and someone brought up the interesting question of comparing the Jedi Code with the Sith Code. Felix had to admit he was a bit curious about the Sith, because all he heard about them was that they were bad people. He wondered if that was actually true or if their ideas simply clashed with the Jedi's without being "bad." He abandoned that train of thought when another padawan spoke up--one with much more experience than Felix. Now, what his parents had told him about the Sith made more sense. He only wished they went into more detail. Although the other padawan warned them about the path of the Sith, Felix was still confused about something.

"Why should we be careful?" He asked, just speaking up without raising his hand. "Just learning about it won't turn us into Sith, right? I mean, we're all here because we want to be Jedi." It was obvious he was more than clueless about quite a few things, but the way he saw it, having something to compare the Jedi Code to might make it easier to understand. More like a list of what not to do as well. He turned in his seat to get a better look at the padawans that sat in rows behind him, looking up curiously.

Kade listened as he settled in against the wall as people spoke, a few questions came up here and there and then came the topic of the Sith Code. "Why should you be careful handling a Lightsaber?" Kade would ask to Felix. "Information is a dangerous thing to play with when you have it and do not understand it, or treat it with the respect it deserves." he says. "However would it turn you into a Sith? No. Unless you sought that path out on your own. For Sith is an ideology, a belief, the opposite side of the coin that the Jedi exist on." He nods. "The Darkness of our Light." He hums a bit as he twitches his tail about slowly, the tip twitching a tiny bit as well nearest to someone.

"However it is also wise to understand your enemies. Understand why you fight them and why they fight you. But understand that each individual is, like you in the end. Someone who fights for a cause, an ideology. It might help you respect them some and it might help you bring them to your cause." He coughed a bit, a bit of his own experiences coming out from a different time. He stared a bit at the floor then looked around slightly alarmed. "Sorry.. didn't mean for that to just.. come out." He smiled rather awkwardly. "Though I do have another question, what variation of the code does the order use or recognize formally? I am aware that there were several different ones from different eras and times."

Listening to the other padawans, the young teacher-knight had to smile a little. It was not that long ago that she herself had similar discussions with her own Master about that topic. Raising her hands, to ask for attention she spoke up.

"I do understand your eagerness to compare the Jedi code with the Sith code. And when I brought to you the Jedi code, we can talk about the Sith code as well. It is true that too much playing with the fire can burn you, so to speak." she looked at those padawans who spoke against it "But it is also true that you need to understand the enemy. But I am not here to compare the two codes with you, I am here to teach you the actual code. The development of the code will be covered too, no worries. It's a part of the code, and it's important for you to understand why exactly it changed over the course of time." she half turned around to point with her right pointing finger at the Jedi Code floating behind her "But for now, let's concentrate on what we are here for. The Jedi code as it is today, followed by what it was and then we end it with a comparison to the Sith code. We should also not forget the pillars, so this is actually pretty much at once, does anyone need a Pad to make notes?"

Leah raised her hand "I'd like a pad, if i may" giving Taruna a soft smile before her gaze swept the room.
She felt no need to join the chorus of voices and their questions of the Sith, their code and understanding them, in truth she wasnt entirely fussed by that topic right now. Leah had come to learn of the Jedi Code, to better ground herself in it and expand, her time to learn of the Sith had been planned for another time.
Though she did not object, she was happy enough to sit quietly, because who knows? perhaps Taruna would perhaps cover some part of their questions regardless, and that was extra information gained. When the Chiss spoke of bringing the comparison at the end however, she couldnt help but smile a little- there was that little piece of extra information.
"You'll have to forgive my lack of questioning, im still fairly new to the ways of things" chuckling she shrugged honestly, as if to say 'thats why im here'

The incredibly tall person in the room was right. Felix didn't really think about it from that approach, but it definitely made sense. He had to be careful with any new information. Not only that, but the comparison would help them understand the enemy a lot better. Felix thought on some of his travels for a bit, and the possibility that his sister could be involved with the Sith. It didn't sound like something she would do, but for some reason, it seemed possible. If that were the case, he wanted to learn as much as he could. He started to wonder that if someone became a Sith, would it be possible for them to change? Could they be turned to the Jedi instead? Kade mentioned it, so it must be possible.

Felix decided to save those questions for later. This class may not be the right place to ask that kind of question, anyway. He turned his attention back to the instructor and crossed his arms over his chest as he leaned back in the chair and listened. A confident smile returned to his face when the Jedi Knight asked if anyone needed to take notes. "No need over here!" He said and brought a hand up to tap the side of his head. "I've got an amazing memory!"

There was a bit of a vocal response to Khivas' little speech debacle on the Sith Code and why playing with fire was usually a bad thing, something Khivas knew was coming but still wished he could have avoided. "Next time just keep your damn mouth shut, bub." He thought to himself as he heard his fellow Padawans talking with each other about why one should and shouldn't learn the Code of the Sith.

As they said their pieces, and before Taruna could put everyone to ease, Khivas raised a hand and summoned a small bit of his voice to address those who had raised concerns and questions, but then realized that he wasn't teaching the class and it was pretty much common sense to figure out these things, so instead he simply floundered a bit and leaned forward in his seat and lowered his arm, instead saying in a quieter tone than before "As my large friend here says, it's possible to learn it and not become evil, it's the teachings and mentality that make a Sith, a Sith, just like us and ourselves being Jedi for our minds and motives, not so much the code, but make no mistake when I say these Codes are vital to the matter of actually being either one of those things, and even more so when converting somebody from one to the other. Again, something I'm familiar with."

And just like that Taruna managed to carry on the lesson, putting minds at ease like a pro, even offering to hand out datapads to those that may need them to take down notes. As Khivas was already versed in the subject of the Jedi Code, a datapad was the last thing he needed, but when one of the padawans present apologized for actually having the audacity to be new and all that entailed, Khivas simply smiled at her and spoke on Taruna's behalf for this one, saying "It's quite alright, everybody that's ever been something always started out new, and we're no different.", shutting up quickly so the lesson could begin in earnest.

Apparently, Verac had said something a little bit too sensitive. It sparked a lot of discussion, negativity, and perhaps some unwanted attention. The boy slinked down in his seat slightly, mumbling a few words that sounded like "sorry". Perhaps not really warranted, the boy felt waves of embarassment and inferiority to these students around him. He heard the voices again, things were coming less clear. Verac tried his best to shut them out again, using the techniques taught to him by a Sith on the Daedalus. The voices in his head quieted, his connection to the Force strengthening. During this small "episode", acutely-sensitive Jedi might have felt a torrential and violent disturbance in the Force, emanating from the boy. It was soon quieted. It was an honest and concerned earlier question, but maybe it was best not to make waves on the first day of school. Especially with his...condition.

Verac spoke up again on the question of datapads. "I'm okay, please continue." He did his best to remain composed and try to shake off the previous little "episode". As long as his attention was unbroken, he wouldn't need one. Besides, he could use his own.

Kade went quiet and began to listen. "I'm good. Got a record-.." He paused and glanced toward Verac, he felt the disturbance and shivered a tiny bit. There was something off with that one. It wasn't his place to comment about it and so he kept quiet for the time being. "I got my recorder going." He smiled.
