With respect to the Hapan/lore issue, you're totally free to do what you want re: name and what the leader call themselves, but why focus on the Lorell part if, for whatever various logical and relevant reasons, the Hapan-ness of the pirates is marginalized?

(Preface: I apologize ahead of time for this terrible analogy, no offense intended.) It'd be like starting a KKK-based group but being pretty open with who can join and just really sort of hating Catholics. Not really so much the KKK at that point as just some sort of hate group. If this group is accepting towards women and non-Hapans, why not just be pirates?

Thanks for the input, man, I tried to make it, as I said before, up to the crew of each ship, how they act towards pretty much everything. The idea is that this is not some single cohesive entity, but an amalgamation of chaotic, interacting groups, because that is always more fun, at least to me. These things will be made more clear tonight when I have time to make them from a computer as opposed to iPad and phone.

That works in the analogy just fine and I get what you are trying to say, but they are Pirates first. They usually will work with anyone who isn't going to shoot them in the back especially after being chased out by the Sith. As I said in my first post, IRL that is why groups that are fighting the various border wars right now are have various others fighting with them even if they do not totally get along. They might both be the same religion, but they may not hold the same exact beliefs but they fight together because they have something in common. IC this is the fact they are all pirates.



The group is lead by a Hapan, why would it be weird if he toke up the name of the Lorell Raiders? Yeah maybe we need to try and get more Hapans, but as pirates they can call themselves as others. He could keep the name and change it from survivors to say there are many hapans.

Are you your job? People are not defined by what they do for a living. They are shaped by the experiences they have, and having the overwhelmingly negative experience of being a male in Hapan society is kind of a big deal. Yes, IRL pirate types and generally nasty folk will group up for a common goal despite their prejudices, but outside of getting hella rich what are the Lorell Raiders trying to accomplish that would make them want to bring in people who they have such a bad history with? I'm not even saying "hey this is a no chickz allowed club," because that'd be kind of boring. But a woman in the group would likely be treated very, very poorly (mirroring the treatment these people received before becoming pirates) or at least be regarded with suspicion and a lot of resistance. And hey, that can be fun to write! But acting like it's all peaches and cream and equality and fairness seems unrealistic, even if we are debating the idea of internet space pirates and their theoretical behavior.

As I've said over and over, it's totally reasonable for them to use the name.. if they're a Hapan pirate group. Out of seven player characters, two of them are from Hapes. Did two friends look at each other and go, "Hey man, let's be pirates!" and jet off into the galaxy to make it rich? And if they're going to use the old title and be all dashing and sneaky why would they deviate from the formula that worked for their ancestors before the Jedi showed up? Which was no women, except for the ones they kidnapped and had babies with. And if they did change their ways, they're still coming from a society that was painfully matriarchal and simply popping into outer space isn't really enough to change or erase decades of systematic abuse.

Also Duke's joke was bad and I think we can all agree he should feel bad.

Apologies for the double post, but well, at work, I don't exactly have the time to make long, thought out posts on here, except at lunch breaks.

So, here goes:

1) I can't control people's characters, I'm not an admin or god or anything, they wanna make a generic human, I won't stop them, and halisstrad would allow them to join, he respects skill, and at this stage he needs it to help the group grow and become more powerful. So he's not gonna stop non-Hapans from joining.

2) As I understand the timing of things during the timeskip, Hapes as a whole was wiped out years ago, now they're a people on the run, with no more home, and who left their culture after years of oppression in the first place. Some may allow women in order to have some moral high ground, other captains may not due to years of oppression and what not, captains can bicker and argue, that was the idea behind the captains' table, so we could have all that delicious politicking. Anyway, after years on the run, hurting for materiel and manpower, perhaps even food, would you take whatever help you could get? I know I would. That's the logic behind things.

3) if you have issues with joining my faction other than "not enough Hapans," that's fine, I respect that, but you have no right to criticize me for trying to do what I can with what limited resources I have, which, right now, Hapans to be two hapan PCs that I play. More Hapans are encouraged to join as PCs, and if they join as a captain, they may design the crew attitudes of their ship however they want. That was the point of having players design their own ships. If you want to be stereotypical space pirates and say things like "Aye, avast!" Or make people walk the plank, join the fairwind and her crew, if you wanna play some more scifi themed pirate join the denial of self or the Elysium. You get what you put in, it's that simple.

4). I've tried to be nice about this and even agreed with some of your changes you recommended, people, so do NOT get snippy with me again, please. I treat you all with more respect than that. It may not always seem so do to my rather hectic rl situation, but I do my best here. I can't be on swrp 24/7, and I certainly don't expect it from all of you.

I ask that you treat people with respect in this thread from now on. We will be civil, or I will ask an admin to lock the thread and remake the whole thing into a faction of pink bunnies called "the lovely snuggy hour" or something. I'm serious, I'll do it. ( I mean it though about the civility, and if I have failed to be civil with people here, I do apologize, it's hard to get the time to respond with more than a quick sentence or two while at work.)

1) It's fine to have other people who aren't from the Consortium join. But when you're touting the whole HAPAN SPACE PIRATES! thing and then the faction is not, in fact, Hapan space pirates, you need to either get some or find another angle. Or make NPCs! NPCs are fine too.

2) The Consortium got wrecked in 1,022 ABY. It's 1,023 ABY. Unless all of these Hapan characters on the site are genetically engineered and age accelerated clones.. they're gonna remember what it was like to live there.

3) Um, I think part of the point of posting this stuff rather than PMing it to admins in private is so people can state their interest and post their questions/concerns. None of this was me saying "jeez Srota you're a big stupid lunkhead" because that's rude and, you know, something I'd save for a private message. :) It was pointing out that there are some inconsistencies that could be tweaked to make the faction stronger overall, even if it means altering your ideas a little bit. I'm speaking purely from my own perspective here, but making it seem like they're a group of people trying to forget the ways of the Consortium, while dealing with their own prejudices, could make the faction more interesting and drum up some interest. Even if you don't have missions to do all the time you would at least have interpersonal drama/relationship building to fall back on.

Excuse me? I'm not putting a character into your faction when I know it's going to die in a month because you were "too busy" and "no one did anything," despite there being a lack of leadership or stuff for other people to do. You get out what you put into these things, and I'm putting in zero because I want nothing to do with it.

Don't make me assume stuff about your faction. Write them up. Or you know, just make a group with no relation to the Lorell Raiders and save yourself the trouble.

You seem to be putting plenty into something that you really dont give a crap about. So why don't you bow out and let us 'go die in a month'. If we do, it really has no grand effect on you, so what do you care? None, you said so yourself.

I'm not sure what you're trying to gain from being so hostile. Like I said, sorry if you thought I was singling you out, because I wasn't. Clearly I'm not the only person who had questions about the faction though. I do care about stuff being consistent with lore that has a direct effect on my character, and regardless of everything else that's been posted I do think space pirates are a cool idea with some merit. My response to Srota was rude, no doubt about that, but I apologized in private and let him know that none of my replies were meant to tear his idea down.

The fact that you're trying to turn this into some kind of personal argument is baffling to me because we've never spoken before. If you have a problem with me or my writing, send me a private message. I am not open to discussing it here.
