In the midst of the chaos caused by the return of the Killiks, it seemed that sense of peace had shattered like the crashing of a stone through a still pond. Serenity crushed and security obliterated, all sense of safety and normalcy had been leeched from the galaxy. The Empire seemed no different. When reports of missing Sith Acolytes began to flutter upon the breeze of local rumor, panic was quick to follow. Like a wildfire, the fear of a Killik attack had rushed across the cities of Dromund Kaas. It didn't take long for local news outlets to pick up the story, either. And now, it seemed, the threat of Joined Acolytes was being taken far more seriously, at least in public. Sol had little doubt that the Empire had been doing it's own investigation, but the nosiness of holonet fanatics and citizens alike had now forced everything into the light.

The Kel'dor disembarks the transport shuttle with his saber at his belt, his ornate armor glistening in the humid light. The sound of machinery and insects fill the atmosphere with exotic ambience. The steps of the Academy still looked so new. Sol had not been long into his role as a Champion when the Academy had been bombed, nearly three years ago. It didn't seem that long in the past, with how clearly the Kel'dor could recall the devastation as videos of smoldering ruin circulated the Holonet, and now it was being reconstructed anew. Ah, but it was best not to be distracted, particularly with a mysterious threat on the loose. Whatever it was, it was targeting the Acolytes. If they had been Joined by the Killiks, none had yet made a suspicious re-appearance. Furthermore, no remains had been found of any bodies. All that was known was that something was hunting any Sith who dared step foot within the swampy wilderness of the ancient world.

Before Sol could make his way into the jungle, though, he would first have to meet those who would be joining him on this mission.

It had been awhile since Aadya had been to Dromund Kaas, probably not since the last time she'd visited Altair here, the more she thought about it. She'd always liked the place and had meant to visit more often, maybe even teach a few classes, but time had always seemed to slip away from her.

Though, when she'd heard there was something or someone targeting the acolytes that still called the place home, she felt a tinge of obligation to come check it out for herself. The Killik menace was a scourge that had been ravaging many parts of the galaxy and there was nothing saying they weren't now targeting the force sensitives on Dromund Kaas.

When she'd arrived, Aadya had actually found out that the Sith had put out a call for anyone to come help, so at least she wouldn't be trying to solve the mystery all on her own.

As Aadya approached the edges of the murky swampland that covered the planet, she noticed a large Kel Dor man she didn't recognize but he had all of the typical trappings of a fellow Sith. Approaching him, Aadya would greet Sol with an upturn of her chin and a simple wave.

You here to check out this shit too? She asked nonchalantly. I'm Aadya, by the way. You?

Caerllion didn’t visit Dromund Kaas since the Academy was bombed. Without the place to be a motivator, the Acolyte had no reason to be here. In his opinion, it would be a waste of his time. He could study in the other academies and if he was missing the urban life, the Annfyn could easily pick one of the several more interesting urban planets that still remained in the Empire.

However, when he heard about the mysterious disappearance of Acolytes on the planet, Caerllion decided to travel here to help with the investigations. With the recent attacks caused by the Killiks, such disappearances were being associated with the possible presence of these bugs in Dromund Kaas.

After what happened in Corellian, the Acolyte already hated these pests. If he could, Caerllion would cause the extinction of the entire species. They are less than animals and deserve to be exterminated. The opportunity of being able to kill more of these things, while helping the Empire was too much to ignore.

When he arrived at the place where the members of the investigation team were going to meet, Caerllion saw that other Sith were already there. He didn’t recognize any of the two, but moved to greet them. “Hello, my name is Caerllion. Are you two going to participate in the investigation?

It had been quite a while since Vahliri had stepped foot on Dromund Kaas. Since the bombing of the Academy, the half-Annfyn had spent the majority of her time on Ziost and Korriban - delving deep into her studies when Imperial duties didn’t call her elsewhere. In truth, she had come to avoid the rain-soaked planet - its familiar landscape a source of bitter memories that only ever left her reeling in the end. Nevertheless, when Vahliri heard the call to action to Dromund Kaas - and whispers that Acolytes were being targeted - she didn’t hesitate for even a moment to make an appearance. It was still a place she called home and cared about, and the half-Annfyn would rise to its defense regardless of what face the threat wore.

As her ship touched down on the surface of Dromund Kaas, Vahliri marched down the durasteel ramp - already outfitted for whatever was waiting. She wore her signature red-and-black robes, lightsaber and shoto clipped to both sides of her belt. Her black hair was tied back and braided intricately, left to drape down her right shoulder.

It didn’t take long for the half-Annfyn to rendezvous with the rest of the search party that was descending upon the Swamp - allowing the rain to calmly fall down and bead against her face. The moment she spotted Aadya and Sol, Vahliri began to march up from behind the pair, jutting her chin in greeting - a wide smirk spread across her lips. “‘Sup bitches,” She said, arching a brow before her gaze flicked to the Firrerreo.

“Aadya, good to see you.” She said a bit warmer.

“Sol.” And the warmth was gone.

Vahliri’s gaze promptly flicked over to Caerllion, giving the Acolyte a nod of agreeing. “Caer. Glad to see you’re still kicking.”

Lucas had found out why his transport to the Taris temple had been so delayed, the Killiks had found their way to Dromund Kaas. Apparently they had converted several lower ranked Sith into their cause, they had become something called "Joined" and would potentially pave the way for a full invasion of Sith Space. As such, recruits had been called to face down this threat in the Empire's name. Lucas had decided that this would be an excellent opportunity to potentially stand out from the rest of the newer Acolytes and decided to join up with a team of Sith who were investigation.

Before going to meet up with the team he had donned the Acolyte Armor he had been assigned, slid his WESTAR-55 Heavy Blaster Pistol into the holster, clipped his assigned lightsaber to his belt, and slid his chainsword into the sheathe and strapped it to his bag. In addition, he changed Dumpster Kitty's litter, gave her fresh food and water, and tried to give her a pet goodbye; she bit him for his efforts. Lucas paused in his tiny apartment to gaze at himself in a mirror, the armor was tight and ill-fitting to his oversized frame but he supposed he looked somewhat intimidating or heroic. He gave a sigh, ran his fingers through his blonde hair, and then headed out to the meeting site.

Lucas would be among the last of the group to arrive, he tipped the hover car taxi that he had hitched to this location and hopped out to make his way to the group. The team was comprised of a male Kel Dor, a male Annwfyn or Sephi, a female Annwfyn or Sephi, and what looked to be a human female as well. Lucas hoped he wasn't late, as such he picked up his speed to a slight jog and waved at the group.

"Hey all!" He would state when he got closer, a smile cracked across his visage. "I'm Lucas, I'm here to help out with the..." He would pause before speaking, glance around to ensure no one else was around, and lean forward towards the group. "...the investigation." He'd whisper.

The first to approach is a woman he's never met before. Not entirely a bad thing, the Order itself was vast, and the Kel'dor didn't know everyone. This would present an opportunity where most might feel disappointment. She seems respectful enough, and the Champion inclines his head with polite greetings. For so long as tempers remained peaceful, he, too, would maintain that cooperation.

"Sol Kenuk." The Sith responds lightly. "And yes. I am here for the investigation." And it would seem that Sol and Aadya would not be the only ones. A younger male arrives at the scene, and now it seemed that they were a trio. Three Sith would be more than enough to handle whatever it was that plagued the jungles. "We are. I am Sol, Sith Champion." The Kel'dor seems amicable enough. His vision flickers between them, before it shifts beyond the boundaries of the civilization they stood within, and into the damp jungle beyond. Within, murky swamps and ruthless predators would await, but the Empire could not afford to have their investigation hindered.

And then the peace seemed to shatter. Vahliri's presence was like poison beneath the Kel'dor's skin, and he's silent as she makes her way up to them, speaks her greetings. Just as she was cold to him, Sol was quick to offer his own lack of friendliness. The Champion doesn't bother to greet her, and he had to remind himself that he was here to do a job. He would do his best not to let the half-Annfyn sour the entire experience. In any case, perhaps the Killiks, or predator, would eat her first. Sol certainly wouldn't complain.

The last to arrive was a young (albeit similarly aged) Mirialin, nearly as tall as he was. Sol peers curiously at the Acolyte before he greets the man with a polite drawl,
"Welcome, Lucas." The Kel'dor notes the sheathed chainsword with an inquisitive eye. Now, it seemed that everyone had gathered. Five Sith was more than enough to handle whatever was hunting these Acolytes.

"Something has been hunting or otherwise snatching Acolytes who go out into the jungle. With the re-emergence of the Killiks, it's not such a stretch that the people here are concerned the captured Sith are being Joined." The thought of that was chilling enough. The Killiks were already far more threatening than Sol ever thought they'd be, but having a bunch of trained Sith under the hive-mind's command was certainly not on Sol's lists of things to fight against.

"If you're all ready, I had planned to head into the jungle and look for evidence. In truth, nobody has seen any Killiks. I suppose we'll be looking for signs of remains, or an unwanted insectoid infestation." Or something else entirely. Whatever it was, their hunting party was sizable enough to handle the threat. "Once we have a trail to follow, we need only eliminate the threat responsible." It sounded so simple, in practice. Reality was often disappointing, though. But with five Sith? He doubted the jungle had anything that they couldn't handle.

Aadya nodded her head in greeting when Caerllion arrived and introduced himself, returning his greeting with one of her own. I'm Aadya, and yep.

Before she could say much more, Aadya's attention was drawn to another new arrival, though she instantly recognized her face. A smirk creased Aadya's lips when she noticed the icy way that Vahl spoke to Sol and couldn't help but wonder at the story behind that interaction. If she was a betting woman, she'd definitely put money down on Vahliri being the instigator.

Aadya's mind flashed back to an interaction the two had had when Vahl was still an acolyte. She couldn't help but wonder how different things might be in her life now if she'd killed the Annfyn like she'd wanted to then. Life was funny like that sometimes.

Good to see you too. Aadya replied, the smirk still clinging at the corners of her lips.

When Lukas arrived, Aadya regarded him but didn't say much. She couldn't help but let her eyes run the tall man up and down, taking in his form. Her mind wandered to what his body looked like underneath of his clothes and noticed that his outfit was just a tad ill fitting. Well, they couldn't have that now could they?

If you manage not to die in the swamp, Lucas, perhaps you can come with me and we can find you some proper fitting clothes. The tone of her voice was joking and somewhat flirtatious., Aadya unable to help herself sometimes when she was around attractive men.

I'm ready enough, Aadya said to Sol, turning from the group and starting to head into the wilds. Do we have any heading at all or are we just blindly walking into the swamp?

It’s a pleasure to meet you two.” Caerllion said after the two other Sith told him their names. The Acolyte hoped that their mission would go well, even if they didn't know each other. Before anything else could be said, another person arrived to participate in the investigation. To the Annfyn’s chagrin, it was the insufferable Vahliri.

He wondered why the Force hated him so much. Now he would need to control himself to not fly at the half-blood’s neck. Caerllion watched how Vahliri interacted with the other two Sith and the change in her voice when she talked with Sol. At least she was never that cold with the Annfyn. He wondered if it was a signal that she didn’t hate him.

Was he feeling happy with this realization? No, not even a little bit.

Hello, Vahl. I say the same about you.” he answered her, while thinking how he wanted to finish this mission as fast as possible. The Acolyte didn’t want to stay any longer near the half-blood. “It seems that we are going to a swamp, again.” it seems that most of his missions these days would end with him walking through mud. At least this time there weren't giant spiders.

After the last member of the group, a Mirialan called Lucas, arrived, Sol gave them the instructions about what they were going to do during the mission. “I’m ready, but I agree with Aadya. Are we going to enter there without any clue? Or is there any information pointing toward a specific place?

Vahliri allowed her gaze to linger on Aadya for a moment or two longer - her lips tugging up ever-so-slightly as the Firrerreo returned the greeting. Regardless of where the two of them had started, such grievances had been buried on New Alderaan - and there was at least some level of respect and friendliness between them in the present day. Certainly the most Vahliri felt for anyone that had shown up so far.

The friendliness promptly faded from Vahliri’s expression when her attention flicked to Sol. She was under no illusions about how the Kel Dor felt about her - and the feeling was very much mutual. Nevertheless, she clearly noted his lack of greeting, and the way that her mere presence seemed to get under his skin. It was a sight that brought the traces of a smug, satisfied grin to her lips. It was an expression Sol would very clearly see if he glanced in her direction, and he would know exactly why it was there.

“Seems you have an affinity for the muck,” She glanced over to Caer, flashing the Acolyte a grin. Despite his pompous and aristocratic manners, the Acolyte made gone to great lengths to point out his frequent falls in the mud - and at this point she was starting to wonder if it was voluntarily. She was under no illusions as to how the Annfyn likely viewed her - but would see nothing but the friendly, playful grin that brushed her expression without meaning harm. Which was likely enough to drive him up a wall in of itself.

Vahliri’s attention flicked to the latecomer - amber eyes locking onto Lucas. She hadn’t met the Acolyte prior to that point - and she didn’t miss how the Mirialan towered over almost everyone present - most of all her own diminutive self. She offered him a nod of her head, lips tugging upwards with a playful grin when Aadya spoke. “That’s a big ‘if’,” She said with a small shrug of her shoulders. “Let's not get ahead of ourselves yet.” The half-Annfyn flashed him a wink to indicate she was mostly playing around.

She crossed her arms over her chest - listening as Sol went on to explain the situation. When he finished, the half-Annfyn’s gaze flicked over to the Firrerreo and Caer when they both asked the same question - and Vahliri couldn’t quite help her own smirk, “Luckily, should that be the case, Champion Kenuk has no lack of experience when it comes to blindly walking into a crisis,” She said smoothly, flashing the Kel’Dor a wink. She waited around to see he actually did have a route forward - and in the event he didn’t, would merely begin making her way towards the jungle edge with the rest of the group.

Most of the group seemed friendly enough as Lucas approached, at the very least no one was openly hostile towards him. His gaze fell between new face, and he politely nodded as individuals introduced themselves to him in return, that was until his gaze fell on Aadya. His eyes flickered openly down her body at her suggestion, the pleasant smile on his face took on a more knowing tone as he cocked an eyebrow in faux surprise at her forwardness. He liked a being that knew what they wanted, and she seemed to know exactly what her desires were.

Lucas’ admiring of Aadya was cut short by Vahliri’s own response the suggestion, it took a moment for Lucas to pull his eyes from Aadya and towards Vahl, catching her playful wink as he did. It caused Lucas to give her a genuinely playful grin in return, at least there were two people who didn’t seem to be sticks in the mud. Once the pleasantries had been dispensed, Lucas would come to stand slightly behind both Vahliri and Aadya as he listened to Sol’s explanation of what had occurred and what their goals were. For the briefest moment, Lucas couldn’t help but feel a little out of his depth and over his head, but he’d been informed that the Dark Side didn’t have time for weakness. Lucas had determined to face down and purge himself of fear in the face of this threat and perhaps earn himself some recognition within the Order.

As the group made to walk into the swamp, Lucas would glance down at Aadya. “Only new clothes?” He asked flirtatiously. “It’d be a shame if these ones didn't end up on your floor.” He continued, uncaring if the others heard, what they thought about the exchange, even if Aadya was receptive or not.

With his intentions clearly stated, Lucas would return his focus to the mission. Lucas understood his role in situations like this, he was there to be brute force and pure muscle. As such, he wouldn’t make any comments on strategy and instead he was perfectly content with taking up the rear of the party. From that point he could respond easily to any ambushes that might occur and could keep an eye out for any strange movement in the swamp.

Aadya. Sol offers her a dip of his head. He'd do his best to remember her name, and with any luck, the two would get along alright. The way she speaks to Lucas draw the Kel'dor's gaze, and he peers upon the Acolyte with an air of amusement. He supposed the lad was nice enough to look at, but Sol can't claim to share any interest. He didn't even know the man, didn't know what he was like, or whether or not he was even worth the Champion's time. At least Lucas and Aadya could have a good time, though.

As for the question directed at him, Sol does, in fact, have a place in which they could start their journey. The swamps of Dromund Kaas were hardly small, and he's not too keen on wading through the mud for the next several weeks. Before the Kel'dor can answer though, Vahliri decides to take a shot, and with that smug expression of her's too. He turns his gaze upon her, cold like ice. There is no friendliness there, no compassion nor comradery. The air of dry amusement that the Sith contracts was probably more than familiar to her, though.

"To be fair, navigating a crisis is made exceptionally more difficult when Vahliri is screeching like a child because some rats jumped into her hair. At least I wasn't put into a coma by an oversized boar." The smirk behind his mask is all too cruel, but if Vahliri wanted to tango, then so be it. Sol doesn't mind what was akin to free passes to insult her in front of the others. He was generally too polite to do such things without provocation. The half-Annfyn had dug her own grave.

Sol shifts his gaze back to the others, gesturing for them to follow. As they walk, though, his senses are flared outward. He hadn't forgotten Vahliri's first attack on him, and he would be sure to be ready for any tantrum she decided to throw now.

"We'll be heading about a mile west. The last Acolyte that went missing was on a training exercise, so Instructors were keeping track of him. We have his last known location before he went silent." Sol had lost the dry humor and now spoke with that professional politeness once again. Sol had the coordinates, so naturally, he headed toward the front of the group. He wouldn't try to stop anyone who decided to go out on their own, though. That was a them problem, not a him problem.

The banter between Lucas and Aadya amuses him, because the Kel'dor was far from beyond that stage in life himself. Sol has no interest in women, but he would silently wish the Acolyte luck. It seemed the deal was practically already sealed, though. At least he'd have some fun banter to listen to as they made their way into the wet jungle, where shadows threatened to swallow the group, and insects buzzed past sensitive ears.

The banter between Vahliri and Sol produced no small amount of hilarity for Aadya. It reminded her of how she and Vahl used to be, though with a distinctive lack of sexual tension. Unfortunate, really. The possibility of going for someone's throat only for it to end in a hate fuck was really the best part of any rivalry.

Aadya's mind drifted to the idea of Vahliri in her bed, but that thought was quickly shaken away when Sol moved on to the more pressing matters at hand. Once they'd arrived at the last known location of the acolyte, Aadya remained quiet as she began to look around. There seemed to be little in the ways of evidence as to what or who snatched them up, at least until Aadya brushed away some dirt near a tree and uncovered something shiny and metallic.

The acolyte's lighsaber is over here half buried in the dirt, she said to the others. Makes me think they were ambushed. There's no real signs of fighting around here, at least that I can see.

Picking it up, Aadya would pocket the weapon for now.

Anybody else see anything helpful?

Well, mud is good for the skin.” he said casually, controlling himself to not say something more offensive. The hybrid was lucky that he was still an Acolyte and couldn’t give a more sarcastic comment to her without risking being punished under the excuse of insubordination.

Caerllion discreetly smiled at Sol’s comment about Vahliri being afraid of rats jumping on her hair. Now he wanted to know more details about this story. It seemed to be hilarious and the opportunity of knowing more about the time that the insufferable hybrid had a crisis in the middle of a mission because of a simple rodent was too good to let it pass. He wondered if the Kel’Dor would tell him the whole thing.

After a brief flirtatious exchange between Lucas and Aaadya, Sol explained the details about where the group was going. With these instructions, they entered the swamp. Soon the Firrerreo Champion found a llightsaber, probably left behind by one of the Acolytes that disappeared.

Not seeing, but maybe I can feel something.” Caerllion said, before closing his eyes. He summoned his magick, feeling the Darkness surrounding his body. Then, the Annfyn released it in an invisible wave that moved through the forest. After it returned, the Acolyte opened his eyes.

Besides some animals here and there, I felt something strange in the direction.” he pointed to the west. “There is an odd feeling of dread and fear coming from there.” the Acolyte explained. This wasn’t something normal to be in a forest, unless it was sentient and something bad had happened.

Vahliri couldn’t resist the urge to roll her eyes at Sol’s remarks. She felt irritation that caused her fluted ears to twitch and flattened ever-so-slightly, accompanied by the familiar urge to simply throw Sol face-first into whatever problem they were facing. Resisting the temptation, the half-Annfyn merely strode ahead without missing a beat - making her way to head the group moving outward. “No,” She said back over her shoulder without pause, “Instead, you were too busy drooling over Altair’s dick to contribute much of anything.”

Content that she’d had enough of the Kel’dor for now, Vahliri continued right along - amber eyes flicking across the horizon for signs of anything of note. Her sensitive ears were attuned to her surroundings, picking up on every footstep and shift within the jungle. There was a Darkness that hung over Dromund Kaas, one that she hadn’t experienced despite ample time on the planet. It was chilling and foreign, only resulting in the half-Annfyn’s fingers twitching a bit closer to the curved hilt of her lightsaber.

While Aadya retrieved the lightsaber and Caerllion cast his magick, Vahliri turned in the direction the Annfyn Acolyte indicated. Without another word, Vahliri began trekking forward - unclipping the hilt of her saber without igniting the blade. She was prepared threat - Kilik or otherwise - presented itself. Though, from everything she’d seen of the Insectoids, fear wasn’t an emotion she attributed to their endless swarm.

She scoured - pushing through the vegetation and swatting away large, elephant-ear shaped leaves from her path. Though she said nothing, Vahliri deliberately pushed one of the plants aside and allowed it to snap back right into Sol’s face - likely catching the Kel’dor off guard as he trailed behind her. Moments of searching passed before Vahliri stopped in her tracks, her body growing tense. At once, the half-Annfyn ignited her lightsaber - pointing the crimson blade further into the brush and ferns. “Here.”

As the rest of the group came up behind her, they would be greeted by the sight of a teenage Mirialan huddled on the ground - knees brought up to his chests, hands covering his eyes. His attire was torn and bloodied, but clearly was that of a standard Kaas Acolyte. He rocked back and forth, muttering quietly to himself in a voice that was barely audible. Even without getting a good look at his face yet, the group would be able to tell something about the Acolyte that was.. Off.

His green skin - normally a vibrant, rich viridian - was pale and sickly, black veins protruding through his skin all across his body. Ink the color of midnight seeked from his ear canals and nostrils - while closer inspection would reveal that the Acolyte’s fingernails had been bitten or torn clean off his digits.

“They took them..” He muttered quietly, not even acknowledging the arrival of the group or the saber pointed at him. “They took them, they took them, they took them, they took…” He began rocking back and forth faster. “THEY TOOK THEM..”

"I'm attracted to men." The Kel'dor responded simply. Flirting with the Tiefling wasn't something he was going to apologize for, whether Vahliri liked it or not. Altair had nice horns. Sure, she probably felt like a third wheel that entire mission, given that he and Altair were enjoying one another's company, but that wasn't Sol's problem. Perhaps if the half-annfyn was a bit friendlier, there wouldn't have been a problem.

Regardless, into the jungle they did go. Naturally, Sol's not anywhere near Vahliri, because he's certainly not going to give her the opportunity to surprise attack him again.

The mud sticks to his boots and the heat was choking. Nevertheless, Sol looks through the murk alongside his companions. Aadya finds a lightsaber, left in the dust by the Acolyte that had once relied upon it. Certainly not an encouraging find. Caerllion's magick seems to direct them onto some sort of trail, which the Kel'dor is quick to follow.

Given that he's pointedly not walking anywhere near the half-Annfyn, the Champion easily ignores the attempt to swat him with the vegetation. Whether or not it hit someone else, though, well that was their problem. Did she really think that he wasn't watching her? Did she really think that he trusted her enough to go anywhere near her? Perhaps she still had that concussion.

Of course, all the childish mannerisms had to stop when they came across the Acolyte, huddled in the mud, knees tight to his chest. He looked... traumatized. And sickly. As if there were a poison flooding his veins. And what he muttered, they took them. Who was they?

Sol steps closer, peering at the young Mirialan curiously. He almost trips as he steps into a hole obscured by leaf litter. Stumbling, the Kel'dor catches his footing, turns to peer down at... well, it wasn't a hole. It was a footprint. And it was huge. Worse, still, there seemed to be more than one pair. Two, in fact. So that would probably be the them, wouldn't it? Something very large, and very powerful. Something that was deliberately hunting the Sith on Dromund Kaas.

"Watch your step. Look at the size of these prints." The Sith warns grimly.

Whatever it was, it was effective. The Kel'dor steps toward the terrified Acolyte once more, peering at him with cold eyes.

"Who took them?" Sol demands, his vocals sharp. They needed to know what they were dealing with here, but the Acolyte doesn't even look at the group. When he does finally respond, it's barely audible, little more than a hoarse whisper.

"Monsters."
