(Cross-posted from the Lords of the Sith Thread)

I've spent the past few days trying to figure out what faction I'd end up joining and I've settled on the Lords of the Sith. Right now I've got two basic character concepts that appeal to me but I'm unsure which to choose. It'd be nice if anyone could critique the ideas:

The first idea would be a fallen jedi who had pledged himself as a servant of the Will of the Dark Side. In a sense he'd truly be a dark jedi in that he would not try to control the dark side as other sith do but rather serve it. He sees it as a pointless endeavour as he has come to believe the moment one becomes a force-user they are forever under the influence of the Force.

All Force users, in his view, are the chess pieces of the Force whether they know it or not. I'd have him follow a view similar to the Way of the Dark from the EU and I imagine when it comes to his actions and loyalties it would be the Dark Side above all (even the Sith Order). As for how he came to this view, I'm thinking this character would have spent his life in obscurity and mediocrity. I'd like to think that he came from a successful family and that as the years went by his parents' disappointment in him only rose.

Upon discovering his force sensitivity and joining the Jedi Order I imagine at first he would be overjoyed to finally be someone special and escape the mediocrity that had dogged him only to find that even amongst the Jedi he was a failure and an all too familiar disappointment could be seen in the faces of his peers and masters. It would be then that, perhaps on some sort of Jedi expedition, he'd come across a Sith/Dark Side Holocron.

The hologram from the holocron would initially shield his origins from the padawan; only helping the padawan in non obviously dark side ways in order to help him succeed within the Jedi Order. Overtime he would introduce the dark side and its philosophies on the force to him which would eventually cause the Jedi to fall. I imagine my character's desperation not to fail again and his desire to be a somebody (to have a destiny) would be the key to this and he'd see pledging himself to serving the Dark Side as the key to this. This would of course lead to him abandoning the Jedi Order and joining the Sith in order to further pursue the Dark Side.

My other idea is inspired by figures like Kel'eth Ur and Darth Gravid; I'm not sure how feasible this idea actually is but I'll present it anyway.

He would be a Sith seeking to improve the Sith Order so that it will not fail again to take over the galaxy and destroy the Republic. The problem however is that his ideas would at best be considered simply laughable and at worst paint him as a heretical traitor and Jedi sympathiser in the eyes of other Sith.

He has come to believe that for the Sith Order to succeed this time round and gain the power necessary to destroy the Republic they need to restrict dark side usage and begin utilising the Light Side of the Force. He accepts the Dark Side is the easiest path to power and in properly trained individuals considers it to be the best path to power. However an entire organisation embracing the dark side is disastrous; its very nature encourages infighting and weakens the order as a whole. Added to the fact that few are able to manage the strong emotions of the dark side without letting themselves be controlled as well as the whole issue of Dark Side Corruption (which tended to exacerbate latent insanity in individuals) and it appears to this character that perhaps letting every force user in the Sith use the Dark Side is a mistake. As for advocating Light Side usage, he simply sees it as the only avenue of power left unexplored by the Sith.

Some would say if in order for the Sith to win they must give up the Dark Side then it's not worth winning. He would say that the Sith Order owes it to the galaxy to win; whatever it takes. The powers of the Force make Force Users best suited to Leadership and since the Jedi seem content to slave themselves to the Force then clearly the Sith have to step in and do something. The Sith Order has followed the same path since its inception and time and time again it either is defeated or it wins only to shortly collapse due to infighting. It clearly has to change if the Sith wish to dominate the galaxy forever.

Critiques would be nice; especially opinions on which concept you prefer (and why if you can be bothered).

On this I would say that the first one would be the best to start with. RPing him fully falling and coming into the order could be fun. I do like the second character but I think it would be a better fit a bit more into the timeline once everything starts flowing and the Sith Order expands slightly.

So I want your guys thought on the concept of my character, and what you think of my little visual concept/image I created using my photoshop. For this timeline since I'll actually be at the start of the timeline, I'm going to go with a younger character than I usually play. Below, I'll be introducing Kal Glider--a poor farmer stuck on the planet Ord Cestus--with dreams of travelling the galaxy. (I plan on possibly going smuggler or some sort of pilot/drifter with him, I'm really excited to see how he evolves.)
Hal_Basic%20Info_zpsmcfcniqu.png

I mean its quite hard to get to much from that. But what I would say is that the concept itself is good, but unless you have a few people you can RP with to get him to that stage. You may end up just RPing with yourself until you get to that stage.

Another character I'll be writing with in the next timeline. I'll be using him in a dedicated group of characters that'll stick together in a ship based RP group. Feedback is desired!

Ailill's parents, both pureblood Corellians living on Onderon, struggled to bring in enough income from their custodial droid maintenance jobs to pay for his expenses. When conventional treatments to cure their son's solar urticaria failed they desperately turned to more experimental methods. If anything, his condition was worsened by pseudomedicine and home remedies. Determined to give Ailill the best opportunity they could they worked long hours in addition to odd jobs to put him through a private school that could adapt to his condition, though couldn't hide how little hope they had for their son's future. In a last ditch effort to give Ailill a fighting chance, they spent their life savings on a protective suit that would shield him from harmful light.

As a young adult Ailill struck out on his own. Fed up with his parent's lack of confidence in their own child's ability to succede in the galaxy, he hopped onto a Startours shuttle and fled. Ailill is now hellbent on finding his own way in the galaxy with the mindset that the only thing that can stop him is himself.

LIFE WITH SOLAR URTICARIA
[fancybox4="http://i.imgur.com/nDSqUYP.jpg?1"]

"I hate the dark."

Solar urticaria is classified as the rare condition in which exposure to ultraviolet, and sometimes even visible, light can induce cases of painful blisters and hives on unprotected areas of skin. Ailill has lived with an extreme case of the already rare disease since the beginnings of infancy. His condition developed further into his teens, then plateaued at a peak at the age of sixteen. He was forced to live a near nocturnal life, only able to attend school late in the evening. Ailill had to wear special ultraviolet resistent clothing and ultraviolet film had to be fitted onto the windows of his home to protect him from harmful sunlight.

In its current state, Ailill's solar urticaria causes lesions, blisters, and hives of such intensity when exposed to ultraviolet light that he is unable to perform simple tasks. The protective suit he wears is the only thing that gives him the ability to leave the darkness.
[/fancybox4]

It seems like a bit of a jump from his parents spending all their earnings on getting him a suit so he can live a normal life and then he just jumps ship. As he was fed up with them.

BARON VOREN MAKR
CEO of the Czerka Corporation

In such a wide and expansive Galaxy, a place with Jedi, Sith and Mystical Forces beyond comprehension, there are those who manage to somehow stay ahead of the game, through a blend of luck, blinding charisma and a hold out pistol. Voren is one such man, a combination of a maverick, ruthless industrialist, and a gentleman of character and skill. Born on the planet of Correllia - known for its smugglers and rogues - Voren went into the armed forces at a young age, rising through the ranks of his squadron with haste, before leaving onto greater things: commerce and industry.

Becoming a pilot for hire, Voren took to gambling and womanizing, before eventually being drawn into the Cargo Running game, his life leading him to bounce from planet to planet, system to system, on the run from debtors and lovers, and always in pursuit of the Cargo, or to top up his crew. Shortly after making a large windfall in the cargo running game, the man set up a firm of his own, running cargo down the dangerous routes into the Outer-Rim. At some point in his life, Voren cheated a member of the Kuati Nobility out of their title, and stole their daughter before leaving her at a motel.

Soon after, the Baron made his way into the world of corporate business, becoming one of Czerka Corps Special Executives, with a special remit to expand the Czerka Operations into the logging industry. Moving to the distant moon of Endor, he began a deforestation campaign, soon growing the profits of the company immensely, soon working his way up through the ranks to Director, and some years later, CEO.

BIOGRAPHY

Born on Correllia to a mother who was known as 'a lady of the night', and as such Voren is not entirely sure who his father was. Regardless, after nearly eight years on the streets as a criminal and thief, Voren was accepted into one of the planetary academies, entering a fast-stream toward military service. Whilst at school he learned a lot of the technical skills such as ship piloting, forearms and basic engineering, that he would come to find of great use in his later years.

MILITARY SERVICE

Within weeks of his graduation however, the young man was moved into Military Service at the demand of his national Government, and was quickly assigned to a small regiment as one of their supply pilots and gunship operatives. Flying several missions before he was promoted, the young man became one of the most renowned Pilots in the armed forces, before eventually being promoted out of front-line operations. Whilst some would see this as a blessing, Voren was not one for shying away from danger, and soon stepped down from his position, to become a Pilot for hire - or as some would say - a Smuggler.

SHIPPING

Purchasing a ship - with a false credit card - Voren began moving goods for numerous outer-rim criminals and other business personnel, running everything from Spice to Weapons, often working on the Republic Border so as to remain just outside their legal policing area. Never being caught, he became somewhat of a premium shipping pilot, before moving into the more legitimate field of cargo shipping, working up an equally sufficient reputation as a pilot in this field also.

Working for nearly half a decade as a captain of his own mass freight hauler, losing crew to pirates, internal disputes, or accidents, Voren held off numerous piracy attacks alongside his crew and first mate, before realizing that his professional life could most likely benefit more if he took on a safer line of work, for an existing company. However, such companies did not exist, with the vast majority of shipping being performed in the inner rim and core - few vessels daring to go into the outer-rim in a professional and legal capacity.

Setting up investment parties, at which the Industrialist secured investment from wealthy core-worlders, Voren soon had sufficient capital to start one of the first 'frontier' organisations, a shipping company that hauled vast volumes of cargo and people from the Core to the Outer-Rim. Profiting immensely from the rush of emigration to these 'new' planets, his company grew and grew, before attracting the attention of a much larger entity.

Czerka. The largest company in the Outer-Rim, and some even said the galaxy, Czerka proceeded to form a merger with Vorens shipping company, and take him on as a Special Executive, in charge of operations from shipping to their new logging operations on Endor. Growing into his new role, he took on more responsibilities, even as the company flounder as a result of their poor business and ethical malpractice.

CHEATING A PRINCESS

As part of his employment with Czerka, the young man was moved on detachment to their Endor Operations, run by a Kuati Noble, who's daughter he was the direct superior of. Over the course of three years, he was promoted gradually to lead the operation on Endor, forming close links with the wealthy Kuati, before marrying the daughter of the Kuati Noble - Kila Kuat.

Using his new found money, Voren purchased a large volume of shares in his company, effectively purchasing a seat on the Board of Directors, just before heading onto their honeymoon. After the first week, he left his wife in a bar on Tatooine, with a pistol containing a single shot, and a map pointing towards the nearest Krayt Dragon cave, and divorced her via holo-message the next day, before buying her father out of the company. The next month he was appointed as the new CEO of Czerka, despite repeat protests from one of its shareholders, Kila Kuat, who mysteriously vanished days after his appointment.

I'm really debating whether to have this guy as my 3rd character. The last time I RPed him on another site he was IGBC Chairman but now I'm not sure where he would fit in in the new TL here. I suppose SBoZ?
idk...I may just scrap him if I can't find a good spot to put him.
link in sig.

Unless someone already posted in the face claim thread for any given character found on the internet, you should be okay with that method

Okay I've started to work on my character (basically I've outlined his driving motive, I'll continue the rest tomorrow), here's a taster:

Kairo Taylwin
[fancybox4="http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/6/6f/Darthriv.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20090301001724"]FULL NAME: --- Kairo Taylwin
AGE: --- 30
SPECIES: --- Human
GENDER: --- Male

HEIGHT: --- 5' 9" (1.75 m)
WEIGHT: --- 150 lbs (68 kg)

EYE COLOR: --- Emerald Green
HAIR COLOR: --- Dark Brown
SKIN COLOR: --- Caucasian
MARKINGS: --- None

FACTION: --- Lords of the Sith

RANK: --- TBA (whenever rankings come out)
FORCE SENSITIVE: --- Yes

MISSION STATEMENT: "What is it that defines a true Sith? Most would argue that it is the pursuit of mastery over the Force. Some would say it is the pursuit of absolute liberation. Others would say it is the pursuit of dominion over all. Perhaps it is those who pursue power as its own end or even who seek to command their passions? It is true that these things are important but they are not what separates Sith from non-Sith.

What truly marks a Sith from all others is their commitment to self mastery. To never allow oneself to stagnate. To always evolve. It does not matter how much power you have, how limited you are and even Force Sensitivity does not truly matter. All that matters is that till the day you are buried you strive to be better than you were. If you make this your primary goal regardless of the circumstances then I can assure you that all you desire will eventually be within your grasp.

Many in the Galaxy, including some among our own order, fail to internalise this foundational principle to their detriment; willing to coddle themselves and stunt their potential in some effort to avoid facing the reality of how wasteful their one precious life is. I intend to change that; to make each and every single individual ask themselves a simple question: are you deserving of the title of Sith. I hope Acolytes that for your sake this is true,".
[/fancybox4]

Critique is of course welcomed.

I plan on commissioning a series of images for Kytana, but the stand-ins until then were just found via google image searching different things. That method should be okay, provided you're also okay with taking it down if it belongs to someone that didn't want it used elsewhere without their permission.

Looking for feedback on my rough draft background!

Background

"For my family, there was never a clear distinction between good and evil. The Jedi, engorged on their own dogma and hubris, were all hypocrites. They eradicated the Sith Empire under the pretense of peace and justice, ravaging entire worlds and tearing families apart. My father did the same, but at least he owned up to his actions, labeling them as a necessary sacrifice in the pursuit of power. The difference was that the Sith pursued an ideal in the face of immediate adversity. Through passion, strength. Through strength, power. Through power, victory. And with victory, my chains were broken. After my father's death, it was how I thought the galaxy was meant to be. My resolve in following the Code was absolute......until I met [insert name here]."

After my father’s death, my mother, Lady Estalle Telluria, took control as the head of House Mecetti. I was grief stricken. My father, a Lord of the Sith, had fallen to the Jedi.

It was on a diplomatic trip to Alderaan when I met [insert name here]. I was probably 11 at the time, still very much feeling the pain of having lost my father to the Jedi. [Insert name here] was a Jedi padawan, likely around the same age as I was. [insert name here]’s master was there too. I distinctly remember them being the calm, collected, and emotionless type, typical of Jedi Masters.

“Hey, my name’s [insert name here]! What’s yours?” they said. At first I was very wary. I hated the Jedi. They had killed my father, forcing me to carry the weight of his legacy and his revenge. But [insert name here] was different. [Insert name here] was easy to get along with, and soon enough, we’d become best friends. Later I would learn that [insert name here] was living on Alderaan and training there to become a powerful Jedi Knight, and eventually, a Jedi Master. Over the years, I’d frequently visit Alderaan with my mother on diplomatic trips. Every time I visited, [insert name here] and I would hang out, sharing secrets and playing games. [Insert name here] taught me about what they had learned about the force, and lightsaber dueling, practicing with sticks against each other. I’d return the favor, teaching them what I learned about lightsaber dueling, although I’d always make the excuse that I learned it from a vibroblade teacher. [Insert name here] always told me I’d make a good jedi, encouraging me to somehow get the attention of the masters. But painfully, I always refused, never telling [insert name here] that I was actually Sith. That we were destined to become mortal enemies.

For years, my education in lightsaber dueling and the usage of the force continued in secret, sponsored by Sith in hiding on Nyssa. Eventually, when I turned 20, my mother arranged for me to represent my
homeward Obulette in the Galactic Senate, using that status as a means to further the plans of the remaining Sith Order. [Insert name here] and I would still hang out from time to time, but our lives quickly became busy, as [insert name here] had been promoted to the rank of Jedi Knight. And despite all the things I learned of the Dark Side, I couldn’t help but doubt the Sith code. What if it was a lie? What if the Jedi were right? These doubts plagued my every action. And it was all because I met [insert name here]…."
