THE HOLOCRON OF ANDERS DRAST
THEME

On the forest world of Corvus and more specifically inside it's walled city of Calodan, Vena had been searching for a presence from the remnants of the Sith Order. She had followed rumors to this planet and because it was far from Imperial space had chosen to forego the armor in favor of clothing more approprate to the wet almost swamp-like climate. The lightsaber that she hid underneath her leather jacket was her only weapon. A risky move, perhaps, but she was confident she would be able to manage just fine with the Force alone.

She had promised to keep in active communications with the other Imperial Knight currently in Caloban, but it wasn't in her nature to team up and so she prowled the night streets alone. The bleeping red dot on her personav was the only light that illuminated her face somewhat as she reached her intended destination. A house, upper class according to the standards of this impoverished Outer Rim planet, seemed to have the item inside that she was tracking. This must be the home of the Sith Champion, Anders Drast. Vena looked up and down the deserted narrow street and saw no one walking about or observing her. Perfect. Force use would betray her to the champion if they were home, so she took the hit of her lightsaber and placed one side to the lock. One, Two, Three, she ignited it and the pure white blade made its way through the door almost instantly, melting the lock and rendering it useless. On the fifth count she disabled her lightsaber again and put it out of sight in her jacket again.

Slowly she pushed the door open to reveal the dark spartan interior of a home not made for comforts. Runes were scribbled on old leather-bound tomes and equipment more befitting long-range communications or tracking, anything that could host a monitoring dataplague, was disabled, unplugged or outright smashed to bits. "Kalique," Vena finally opened up the commline with her fellow Imperial Knight, "sending you coordinates. I think I found something."

Anders Drast seemed to have become a paranoid madman just like most of the Sith Order she had encountered, but she couldn't resist to pick up one of the runed tomes and open it. She recognized the words. It was written in the Sith Language of Old, the one they only taught at the Korriban Temple. It was basic knowledge on how the Force worked, with every aspect brought back to have some relevance of meaning to the Tenets of the Sith. Apparently Anders was highly focused and obsessed with his own last name -Drast- and kept referring to an ancient Sith Empress with the same name; Andraste.

Choosing to disregard it for now, Vena tossed the book back on the table and walked over to the corner near the stairs where she picked up what looked very much like a Holocron. It was dented and scratched as if Anders had tried to opened it by tossing it around the room, yet still not applied so much Force in fear of breaking what he must've thought contained priceless historical knowledge of the Dark Side of the Force. "Tried to open it, did you?" Vena chuckled. She knew what it was. It was a device designed by the Imperial Security Bureau and along with others of its kind it had been spread out across the galaxy as bait. This was the very item that her personav had been tracking.

Being an Imperial Knight was never boring as there were always problems on the few worlds that had stayed loyal to the Empire, spottings of presumed Sith that had to be investigated or new missions that followed revelations of alleged Sith artifacts that needed to be secured before they could fall into the wrong hands.

Today's mission was a rather clear. The commands she had received included two targets: Follow the faked 'holocron's' signal and deal with a Sith Champion that had been spotted on the planet of Corvus, right in the City of Calodan, accordingly. He had gone after the presumably valuable bait, wanting to investigate what was inside it and hence he had walked right into their trap.

Kalique was busy following a subject for a possible interrogation without getting spotted as the comms suddenly cackled, hinting at an incoming message from the other Imperial Knight that had been deployed with her on the Forest planet. As Kalique had not worked with the other Knight before, she was obviously curious about the woman and desisted of her target to turn into an alley way to respond discretely.

"Perfect. I'm on my way". The coordinates came in on her datapad right away and the Knight took the shortest route to the other Knight's location, hoping that her lead would bring them closer to finding Drast. It didn't take long for her to arrive, but as she set foot into the house, the first thing that basically sprang into her face were the smeared runes.

"Good job on finding the house" she offered a few words genuine praise as obviously, the annoying part of finding his hideout was accomplished and that the Sith had just fallen for it. "Looks liks it had worked" she gestured for the 'holocron' that immediately brought a smirk to her lips, "the Sith on the loose might be a little frustrated though". It worked...not always but sometimes, but it was obvious that Drast had hoped to gain whatever knowledge laid dormant inside.

"Okay, so we found his hideout...if we mask our presence within the Force, we could ambush him here" she suggested as she started walking around, taking a look at what he had left behind before her gaze shifted towards the opened door. "You broke the lock?" she asked, presuming that it had been the easiest way in, however it would mean that the Sith would get suspicious the moment he'd arrive, if he even planned on coming back any time soon. Still, even if he'd just appear at the doorstop, they'd get the chance for a little talk.

Vena shrugged in response as she gazed at the holocron. So this is what they're supposed to look like? The real ones, that is. She had heard of Holocrons of Palpatine, Vader, Andraste and other Sith that had ruled and crushed their enemies. Palpatine and Andraste had even formed Empires. In some ways Vena felt a strong connection to them, the Force-sensitives of Empires. It was too bad they became slaves of the Dark Side instead of devout believers in the principles of the Empire.

Although she had initially viewed Sith like Wodan to be traitors that had easily given up their creeds for cushy positions among the Imperial Knights, with the understanding that mere Acolytes like Vena didn't have much of a choice in the matter, now she had come to think of the Lord-Commander as admirable. He had forsaken the Dark Side pull and chosen to live by the principles of the Empire.

"It opened the door," she smiled at Kalique as she offered her explanation, "guess one of us as the wait outside so we can ambush him at the door." There wasn't an inkling noticeable in her body-language to suggest that she was willing to be that person and instead she handed Kalique the fake holocron and walked back over to the books. "He's copying the Tenets as taught at the Sith academies," she explained, "do you think he means to bring them to where they train younglings?"

While Kalique did a little tour around the presumed living room, she started analyzing a few of the runes and collected some footage with her datapad before she safely stored it away again.

Kalique had studied ancient Ur-Kittât runes to some extent, not out of personal reasons but for academic purposes, actually. In order to hunt down Sith, you needed as much knowledge as you could gain to use it to your advantage and understanding runes was an important part of it.

She didn't comment the runes just yet but approached Vena again when she outlined their plan. Was she afraid? With one eyebrow raised, she held eye contact for another moment before she shrugged. "Sure. Let's get this bastard. I can get into position outside if you want to" she thus suggested, nodding at her suggestion. "Possibly, yes. They might not train acolytes in masses, but I'm pretty sure he wants to pass on knowledge to someone" she mused, rolling her shoulders. "I'll take the roof across the street. That should give me a good overview and then we'll probably play the waiting game". Who knew whether he'd even show up today, but that remained to be seen.

"Maybe we should keep him alive, then-" her words trailed. She wasn't sure whether she was curious to see if this Anders Drast was something more than a mere cultists or overly fanatic yet underskilled Champion of the Sith Order, or just wanted the opportunity to help younglings leave the Sith while had yet to be fully corrupted by the Dark Side of the Force.

Regardless of what Kalique would reply, the both of them took up their position with the front door to the house closed and appearing to be locked and undisturbed. This gave Vena the change to read more of Anders' writing as she waited for Kalique to give the signal over their commline that their target was approaching the house. There writings intrigued her, but at the same time they were clearly ill-copied and badly memorized versions of the originals texts that she remembered seeing once at the Korriban temple. If she wanted to learn more of the Sith -to better track them ofcourse- then the knowledge of one of the ancient Sith locked inside a real Holocron would be invaluable.

After an hour of waiting a hooded figure appeared on the street. Humanoid by the looks of it, possible male judging from the shoulder width and clearly walking in the direction of the house. Was this him? Was this Anders Drast?

Odd. One detail that began to worry her was that the Sith had drawn those symbols all across the room, especially because they weren't even well made, letting her wonder whether they had walked right into the trap themselves now or whether this Drast was just a weird fanatic. Maybe he had even intended to practice drawing the runes before casting them, or maybe this was indeed becoming interesting, but potentially not in a positive way...

"Good call. We might conduct an interrogation after delivering him to the ISB" as their endeavor was planned in advance and no surprise confrontation which would have prompted them to kill him immediately. "I'll try to take him out from outside...if he enters, I'll conjure a distraction maneuver", she added, thus sharing her ideas.

The two women were then taking their position with Kalique immediately climbing the roof of the house across Drast's as intended. She tried ringing the bell first in order to inform the ones who lived there, but as no one answered she just used the veranda, windowsills and facade to reach her target.

Kalique waited patiently as the sky was turning grey, having her blaster ready and set to stun before the rain even began. She had clear sight on the door, but it took quite a while until a hooded figure suddenly appeared. "Get ready" she informed Vena over the comms, her voice lowered and not choosing telepathy as she was avoiding any use of the Force for now.

She slowly rose to her feet and targeted the figure, not actually caring whether this was the Sith they were looking for or just bait. From what she could tell from above, the figure hadn't noticed any of what the Knights had planned just yet, so that when the well aimed shot was finally fired, the figure spun a second too late and dropped to the ground.

Even though her position was now given away, she ducked down once again, opening comms and telling Vena, "Subject down. Can you pull him inside and check it out?". If this was just someone sent by Drast, Kalique was ready to pounce from above, hence she intended to wait until Vena had that clarity, choosing a rather discreet way as no one had been around to witness any of it just yet.

Vena could hardly believe her ears when Kalique announced she had succesfully stunned Anders Drast, so she might've been a bit careless when she rushed outside to witness the man laying in the middle of the street. His cloak covered the entire body except for his calves and shoes, so Vena went up to him and turned him on his side first so she could pull the hood back and. "Human male, mid-twenties, seems to be Anders Drast but he doesn't have a beard on his file." At least, not in the file the ISB provided the Imperial Knights with. No doubt those intelligence operatives and peacekeepers had a lot more intel than they gave to the former Sith.

Guess they needed to get a better look, "Taking him inside." She used the Force to drag him across the street and towards his own house, where a rather rough landing forced him onto the floor. When he woke from his stun he would no doubt discover some new bruises and painful joints.

Inside she waited for Kalique to join her and together they could strap him to a chair. If this was Anders Drast, and it seemed to be, then he probably had answered Vena preferred to hear directly from the man and not through some heavily redactied ISB after-action report. "Well, what do they say?" she asked Kalique before slapping Anders in the face with the palm of her hand, "When you can't wake him the first time," she struck him again and this time the man seemed to register it as a low moan escaped his lips.

Vena turned to Kalique with a prideful smile, "Works every time."

Kalique kept watch from her elevated position, scanning the environment for any possible dangers. Even after Vena's quick report Kalique observed the calm streets for another moment before quietly hopped down and entered the house once again to join the other Knight.

"If the beard's the only detail that's a little off, we're still lucky" she finally replied with a little smirk, helping her tie him down before she took her position right next to her. "I'd assume he won't be happy. Let's prepare for any force attacks". It was an obvious thought, but Kalique had learnt that voicing the obvious was never a mistake.

She crossed her arms in front of her chest and waited for Vena to do her part while she already had the Force coiled around her in case they needed to knock him out again. Vena's hand made contact with the man's cheek with a loud 'slap' once and he didn't budge, so that the other Knight followed with a second slap. Drast - or whoever this was - stirred and despite the moan indicated that the formerly stunned man wasn't fully focused yet, Kalique stayed on her guard.

"Wakey time my dear friend", she stated rather coldly, slightly tilting her head to the side as she man blinked a few times. "Kriffing hell...who are you?!", he snapped at them angrily, a furious, however still slightly unsettled gaze shifting from one woman to the other.

Vena was notably disappointed. This had all been too easy, which meant Anders Drast wasn't the skilled Sith Champion that all these books and runes had made her believe him to be. "Oh right," she plucked at her clothes and turned slightly towards Kalique, "we're hard to recognize without the armor." The comment already made the gears in the Sith's head turn slightly, but they didn't really have the time nor energy to let give him the ages he apparently needed to jump to the right conclusions.

"We're Imperial Knights, Anders." Vena said as she opened up her leather jacket and retrieved her lightsaber. She didn't ignite the white blade, but the hilt alone would be enough proof to her statement. "You found one of our fake Holocrons, we tracked it to you and now-" she smiled, thinking rather highly of herself, "-here we are."

It was time to get down to business. "Where is the Sith Order hiding," Vena said hopefully, but knowing better than that this man would know. "Where is Darth Tempest?" If the Imperial Knight Order could track down and defeat the new self-proclaimed Dark Lord of the Sith, then they could prove their loyalty to the rest of the Empire and maybe... just maybe.. Vena could step into her father's footsteps after all. Peacekeeper Lieutenant Lann did have a nice ring to it.

Unfortunately the Sith cultist flashed nothing but his own self-important grin. "Darth Tempest?" he shook his head, "The Sith Order belongs to the Drast Family." he stated with a lot of bravado despite his circumstances, "It belongs to me."

Somehow about this Anders Drast immediately told her that he wasn't as dangerous as the ISB had presumed at first. He was much more tame and there wasn't even a real kind of defiance or spite in the way he reacted upon their revelation.

"He's just a waste of time" Kalique declared rather coldly as she started circling him slowly, the Force already at her command and slowly pushing him tighter against the chair.

The other Knight meanwhile began with a direct question that surprised Kalique a little. Was Vena trule expecting he'd just start blabbing? She cocked her head to the side ever so slightly while giving her a quick side-eye. Maybe a good old game of good cop bad cop would help.

"Quit that shit" she growled at Drast, the Force now focused around his neck while she began to constrict his windpipe in a way that would be very unpleasant for him. "Of course he doesn't know a single thing. He's weak and unimportant and just another fanatic who calls himself Sith", this part was stated flatly and was directed at Vena. She then shrugged casually, deciding that the pressure needed to be enhanced. Cocky darksiders often cracked rather easily. "Let's move on. Do you wanna finish him?". Maybe a well placed death thread could still help, but Kalique was de facto convinced that he knew nothing.

Kalique was tough, Vena noticed as the former started what was nothing less than torture. She was right, too, because this Anders Drast wasn't worthy to call himself a Sith. Perhaps he had been an acolyte once. Most likely he had never been able to make it any further and these books were the summation of his training. That was too bad. The trip to Corvis had taken a while and wasn't with its unpleasantries either.

So when Kalique suggested Vena finished the pathetic worm of a man off, Vena didn't hesitate and ignited her lightsaber. Anders began shaking his head violently as she brought it up, her gaze switching from his face to an open spot in his neck where she was aiming her lightsaber to go... "Wait! I'll tell you-" the lightsaber swung down and decapitated Anders Drast in one swift motion. He head rolled down the floor as Vena immediately disabled her lightsaber and turned to look at Kalique with raised eyebrows, "Did he say something?"

Had she just been too quick to execute him? Did he actually know something or was it a pathetic attempt to delay the inevitable. Vena guessed it was more likely the latter. "Might not include that in the report," she said apologetically, knowing that knights showing poor judgment or being to prone to summary execution wasn't something that would help the 'New Order' come out from under the close supervision of the Imperial Security Bureau.

Kalique made sure the man was attacking neither of them by holding him in place with the Force. She found it truly weird that he was neither attempting to fight back, nor trying to find a way out of it, but what gave him away as the Sith they were looking for was how he did finally coil the Force around him before Vena suddenly played this game way too quickly.

As the head toppled down Kalique let go and faced tne other Knight who was even grinning apologetically, one eyebrow raised. "...Yeah" she shared her thoughts rather directly, also finding it maybe even a little suspicious that she dealt with him so quickly. Was it patience she was lacking? Or guidance? One way or another, it seemed like she hadn't understood Kalique's tactic, but maybe she had simply thought he wouldn't help them.

"It would have been better to see what else he knew. Also, he was obviously no threat, so I'd say a proper treament would have been to stun him and take him to the ISB". It was too late now though. She had judged to quickly in Kalique's eyes but it was not like they could reverse that now. She was still young and shapable, but the question was whether she wanted to learn..."Why did you kill him right away? Not judging, just wondering. Also, we might want to go through his stuff and check whether there aren't more Sith around here".

A look of surprise crossed Vena's face as Kalique started to question her. "But, you told me to," she replied. The older knight had said to "finish him." She choked him, he didn't know anything, so she ordered Vena to kill him. That was the Sith way... oh.. old habits. Vena looked away and at the lifeless head on the floor. "I already went through his stuff while we waited for him to arrive," she gestured towards the books and other runes displayed around them before she knelt by the head and picked it up by its hair.

"I read somewhere that the Nightsisters of Dathomir can communicate with the dead," she lifted the head up so that its lifeless eyes were directed towards Kalique, "Maybe they'd.." she stopped mid-sentence as she realized that as opposed to a few years ago, the nightsisters were no longer part of the Empire. It seemed that a lot of powerful and useful Force techniques had been lost when the Empire expelled the Sith, leaving the knights handicapped when it came to fighting other Force users.

"Nevermind," Vena dropped the head and rose back to her feet before finally stowing her lightsaber back in the inside pockets of her leather jacket and zipping it closed. "the ISB will no doubt be tracking another fake holocron in this or neighboring sectors," the Tarisian knight took the fake holocron in her hands and tossed it over to Kalique, "maybe the next one knows more."

Vena seemed admittedly a little caught off guard after Kalique's reactions which made her realize that the other Knight had been serious. "That was...meant as a threat. He was supposed to believe that, but obviously you believed that as well". Had this been the doing of an inexperienced new Knight or someone who was too quick-tempered like a real dark sider?

Kalique wasn't happy with what she had just learnt about her new companion but decided to not let anything bleed through. "It's okay" it would still have to end up in the report. "Maybe I'll shoot you a telepathical addition next time. As you saw, we were getting at a point where he likely would have talked. He didn't know anything about Tempest but maybe about other Siths' whereabouts".

As dark side users, they were walking a thin line, but there was still a difference between doing what needs to be done for the Empire and just behading someone who hadn't given them a reason yet. "You might be right though. I'll stay the night and check whether we're called somewhere".

Vena nodded and turned towards the door. She didn't have the heart to share with the other knight that she had still been an acolyte of the Sith Order and that talking to another telepathically was far beyond her skill. She didn't know much about Kalique Demici it seemed. Well, besides from the fact that she was utterly devoted to the Empire and possessed a far greater refinement in her usage of the Force.

It was Vena's job as an Imperial Knight to track down and kill the remnants of the Sith Order, so that she did. She had tracked Anders Drast down and killed him. There was a simplicity to it that didn't stray even from the Justicars of the Jedi Order, but where those Justicars bathed in their Light Side and died defending a principle of peace.. Vena had learned that with great power also comes possibility to realize one's ambitions. If she could learn how to use the Force just as Kalique could, if she had been taught more by the Sith Academies, perhaps...

"Roger that," she replied as she manually opened the door by sliding it to the side, since she broke the lock earlier. "I'll get back to the ship and file the after-action report."
