Darmus was in the process of packing his bags for his long-term trip to Nar Shaddaa when his attention was claimed by the large screen in the living area that usually played bad western movies. The Holonet News came in with an urgent broadcast that interrupted one of those debate programs Darmus couldn't be bothered with to pay attention to and yet when the youthful figure appeared, his bright eyes stole the ranger's attention.
The speech started off with the usual dribble. "Galaxy is bleeding, but I have the bacta patch to fix it" but then something made Darmus drop whatever he had in his hands and fold them into clenched fists. "He has some nerve," the old ranger hissed as Emryc used the destruction of Ranger Command and the massacre of Darmus' friends and fellow rangers in his obviously political speech. Even worse, he showed footage of the very events Darmus couldn't even talk about to his friends. Suddenly his head was spinning and his body was drained of energy as he barely managed to find the couch and sit down. Kriff, he realized he was trembling.. he had been so focused on finding the people responsible for the attacks, so focused on planning to arrest and bring to justice the Eclipse.. who were hiding outside FWA space on the lower levels of Nar Shaddaa, that he never stopped to process just what had happened. Everyone had died.
Cold sweat rolled down his left temple as he tried to calm his quivering breath. Whatever he thought of this politician using his fellow rangers to push his agenda.. he found himself still agreeing to the sentiment. The Jedi and their war were responsible for all those deaths and yet the Republic and the FWA still entertained them as keepers of the peace. A long time ago he had thanked Jedi Master Oren Zapan for his help with investigations, but like Darmus the Jedi had changed since then.. and not for the better.
It took a while for Darmus to claim back control from his panic attack and despite himself he found some amusement as a smile slowly crept onto his features. "Maybe they'll need their own rangers?" he asked himself. A ranger service in the Outer Rim without the meddling presence of the Jedi and Sith.. that actually sounded pretty good.
