[Event] A Game of Influences

The Core worlds have always held a particular place in the galaxy's history. To gain control over these planets located at the centre of the galaxy, one cannot simply expect to launch an assault against the infrastructures of whatever faction exerts the most influence over them. Instead one has to play an intricate game of influences and hope to gain the favours of its population and, perhaps more importantly, of the few people that govern these more prominent worlds.

In order the address to growing discontentment over PvP on the site to the detriment of meaningful storytelling experiences, the war for the Corellian sector is going to be fought differently than what has been done until now. Instead of strict skirmishes, dogfights and tactical battles, the battle that will oppose the forces of the Sith Empire and the Insurgency will be fought as game of influences, as the former struggle to maintain its position of power while the latter attempts to gain then necessary support to overthrow the current leadership. If the rebel organization was to gain more influence in the Corellian sector than the Sith Empire, the Empire would lose control of these planets and the Battle of Corellia would ensue.

INSURGENCY​

How does a faction gain or lose influence?Through the completion of story objectives and IC activity, factions will win influence points to either raise their influence level or lower that of its opponent. All objectives must be completed on worlds located in the Corellian sector. A non-exhaustive list of the story objectives that can grant influence points can be found below. If a specific objective is not listed, please contact @Malon and @Aberforth and they will determine how much influence points should be granted.

+2Capture a vessel from the opposing faction
-2Help defectors from the opposing faction to escape
+2Get a defector from the opposing faction to provide support or intel for your faction
+1Infiltrate a base from the opposing faction to gather intel
-4Lead an assault against a base of the opposing faction *
-2Sabotage vessels or infrastructures of the opposing faction
+3Locate the children of the Force and get them to serve your faction's interests *
+4Establish a base *
+1Reach out to local government and gain their support
+1Provide support to a local rebel cell or imperial garrison

Objectives marked with a star need to be completed in OPEN threads, while the others can be completed in ASK or OPEN threads. If an OPEN thread is met with opposition from the opposing faction and the objective is completed, it will be rewarded with twice as many influence points (e.i.; +8 instead of +4; -4 instead of -2). Threads must be completed for them to be eligible to receive influence points.
How does one participate in the event?Characters must sign up for the event in an attempt to balance participation from people fighting for both the Empire and the Insurgency. Note that characters from other factions can sign up for the event, but that they will have to chose a side to support and that priority in approving participation will be given to members of the Empire and the Insurgency.
How does a faction win?The event will end when one of the following condition is met. If the Insurgency's influence rise above that of the Empire at any given time, the Insurgency will win the event and ergo control of the Corellian sector. If the Empire's maintain its superiority for three months, the Empire will win the event and the Insurgency and its allies will have to retreat from the Core worlds.

Just a couple quick questions here (as they have cropped up in discussion about this on Skype):

1) Are people locked in on the side they chose to support from the outset?

And depending on the answer to the first question...

2) Are people allowed to sign another character up at a later time for the opposing side?

@Aberforth I have a potential thread where a Sith would be interrogated by Kesiya, my Jedi that is participating in the Game of Influences. The sith in question was captured by the Jedi during the battle of Urce, one of the Battles of Ithor. Since Kesiya is a participant in the Game and the sith is obviously a sith, if I found a member of the Insurgency willing to join my Jedi during the interrogation, would this thread count as "Getting a defector from the opposing faction to provide support or intel for your faction," assuming the sith actually did end up defecting/giving us intel/support? Also, would this thread have to be within sith territory or can it take place on Lothal, a Jedi world where the sith is being held prisoner? I could always have Kesiya transport the sith to Insurgency territory if that would be better.​

1) Nope, though, as this is a story-oriented event, there would need to be sufficient build-up IC to justify a change of allegiance. Also, rules about espionage still apply to this event, so if anyone wants to attempt that, then by all means, please do. Just make sure you are following the rules.

2) Yes.

Furthermore (since I have noted some queries about that on Skype and it is somewhat relevant here), characters have to sign up for the event not so much because there are limited spots, but rather because I want to keep some balance between both sides (10 v. 50 are never enjoyable).

Generally, all threads have to be set in the Corellian sector (there are a few minor rebel bases scattered around where you could no doubt transfer your prisoner and have him interrogated), but I think an exemption could be made if the intel gathered is pertinent to rebel activities in the Corellian sector (pending @Malon's approval).
