Relana Isolde Tanoor sat in the central spire of the Galactic Senate Building, looking out at the hundreds of beings spiraling up around her, sitting on their rotundas. Raising her hands, an eerie silence befalling the agitated members of the Senate.

"Senators! A dark day is upon us. As I speak, a battle rages on the hyperlanes of Coruscant. It can now be known that our aggressor is the Alsakan Union, fervent in their religious beliefs. It does not look good, they knew the exact place we would exit hyperspace, and they crippled our transportation in mere seconds. The only explanation is treason." Relana's voice was magnified tenfold by the machinations of the Rotunda she stood on.

"I have called this meeting to discuss the impending war, and to plan for the possible conquest of Coruscant." Her voice died out as the Senate roared to life.

Senator Nuka Usikt of Umbara stood in her rotunda, listening to the Supreme Chancellor’s short speech. The senator wore the traditional Shadowcloak of her people, the hood of such a garment lowered for security reasons. However, the Senate room was dimly lit enough for her to avoid damaging her delicate eyes.

Like many other senators, she was stunned by the surprise attack by the Alsakans. From her current knowledge, an unannounced, surprise attack. An act that the Republic would never tolerate: an act of guaranteed war.

*The Galactic Senate, the legislative body of the Republic. Alcor had been a member for some years now, and during that time he had served as an ambassador to Alderaan where he also offered sage advice to the Alderaanian monarchy and local legislature about how best to maintain the government and society. There was a wide variety of different local governments along the political spectrum varying from monarchies to republics to hive-like communes, but Alderaan had been a monarchy ever since his ancestors first became prominent, and despite his great love of democratic-republicanism, he would not have the Alderaanian government any other way.

Because he was currently stationed on Alderaan at his private offices and was not able to attend the emergency session of Congress that would deal with the new threat posed by the Alsakan Union, he was forced to communicate through a holographic-feed. He preferred to be in a congressional session in person, though there was nothing he could do to get to Coruscant in time. The hyperspace lanes were blocked off by the union forces, and travel by regular light speed would take far too much time and it would be far too dangerous, perhaps even suicidal depending on his luck.

As his shimmering-blue image faded to life within the Alderaanian Senate Pod, he could see on his holo-feed the overall view of the Senate where the Supreme Chancellor, his cousin's wife, was speaking to the assembled delegates about the crisis. The building contained thousands of floating platforms, many of which contained several senators who represented a sector of the galaxy. Due to its prominence in the Core Worlds, however, Alderaan was given a pod of its own where Alcor generally sat with his armed guards. That remained with him at all times as a security precaution. He never liked using armed guards, but he understood why others wanted him to have them with him at all times.

As his cousin finished speaking, Alcor listened to the erruption of voices coming from the thousands of pods. The one downside to such a massive legislature was that everyone attempted to speak at once, despite parliamentary procedure. At that point, he had nothing yet to say, so he simply leaned back in his office chair and put his hand to his chin, considering what was said and what would be said by the thousands of assembled senators, both those in attendance in person or via holographic technology.*

Lana sat in her rotunda. She was feeling slightly scared, after all she was the senate's new girl. She had only been elected ealier this year and was young for a politician. She wore a simple black dress and slightly regretted not bringing a jacket as she shivered a little in the vast halls of the senate. She listened to the Chancellor's words with rapt attention, and winced as the noise erupted around her. She decided to remain silent, she had little idea what to say at this stage and decided to see what the others had to suggest. If they all stopped shouting long enough for somebody to get a word in edgeways.

Athena lifted her hand to her mouth at the Supreme Chancellor's message. She had known that Coruscant had been attacked, but it had been so many times before, and each time they had managed to hold the seat of power... but the Chancellor was speaking as if... this time... they might lose. She could not speak.

Was this... was this the end of democracy? If the Alsakans could take Coruscant, they held the Republic by the throat. She was stunned by the thought that she may be witnessing the end of thousands of years of this beloved government of hers. The Empress of Perelandrea, once standing, now, as gracefully as she could, fell back into her seat, hooves brushing the floor. She looked down at the floor, the only thing yet sane, eyes darting as she contemplated the consequences.

She felt sick.

Senator Ekkehardt sat in his chair, his guards and aides flanking him. He nodded. He began making notes ferverently, constructing a speech, possible retaliations, and thus replies to the nay-sayers. Oh, there would be war!, glorious, bloody war! The Republic would have to fight the Alsakans now! Instead of sitting back and growing fat and weak over time, as it had been doing. Up until now.

Several senators looked over in concern to the Chandrilan pod as muffled cries could be heard, the sound of someone howling in pain, and then silence. Lying on the ground of the pod, a grey-haired man was now gagged and bound. Gregory Pea, Senator of Chandrila, now stood ready to speak, though he was hardly an awe-inspiring sight. The small skirmish had left his hair - poorly brushed to begin with - now poking out in all directions, and his cheap suit had torn along one of the sleeves, revealing that the business shirt he was wearing underneath...was missing its sleeves. His pale, muscleless shoulder was now on display to the entire Senate. Several of the more conservative senators nearly fainted at the sight of, by their standards, indecent exposure.

Grasping for what little dignity remained with hopeless desperation akin to that of a Hutt grabbing the last piece of food - even once you got your paws on it, here was no more to be had anyway - Gregory cleared his throat, straightened his clip-on tie, and spoke.

Too bad noone heard a word he was saying. He had forgotten to turn his microphone on.

This could not be the beginning of the end...

Just then, an important news flash appeared across the screen in front of the Landran Sector's pod. Upon seeing it, she began to feel faint, but she managed to conquer it, knowing the figure she was must remain calm at all times... even when the HoloNews just reported that the main supply of water to Coruscant's metropolis had been destroyed.

Judah Zaren entered through the hallway into his Senate Pod, and took a seat in the the seat in the center of the circular pod. Those whom boarded with him were two political advisors, and three CorSec agents. He sat and all he could hear was silence, and the echo of coughing within the rotunda. He looked at his datapad, and had looked up when the Chancellor began her opening. He then looked down when she was finished and looked through the datapad, then pocketed it.

Raising her hands in silence, Relana spoke: "The attack raging above us has us all tense, but we must be logical. We must prepare for the evacuation of Republic personnel if we should loose this battle. It pains me to think we would leave so many behind, but it is a necessary evil.

We have tried to contact our holdings in the Expansion Region, to prepare for more attacks. But it has been difficult. Long range communications have been largely severed. Those Senators here today through holo-technology, I call to you, inform as many systems as you can.

I wish to begin talks with the Jedi Order, to try and get their support in our hour of need, but this cannot happen without the Senate's approval. And on to the final array of business. The emergency location of the Republic Senate. We must secure a secret, well defended place to continue operations!" Relana's voice died out as the murmur of Senators again sounded throughout the hall.

(((I gave plenty of time. All Senators that have not posted as of now are no longer in the Senate.)))

Judah pondered on what the Supreme Chancellor had just informed them about. The Chancellor planned on evacuating Coruscant if necessary, and would be ready to leave many behind. That would be necessary to ensure the survival of the Republic's ways. She also wanted the Jedi Order to have part in this, and Judah strongly opposed the Jedi's crazy religious views, which in his opinion is blasphemey.

Judah rose from his pod chair. "I, Judah Zaren of Corellia approve the evacuation of Coruscant if necessary, but votes to deny the intervention of the Jedi Order in government decisions." Judah then sat back down and awaited feedback.

"Alderaan will support the Supreme Chancellor's proposal to remove Republic personnel from Coruscant if the battle is lost," Alcor said, although he was greatly taken aback by Corellia's rejection of allowing the Jedi to assist them. "I strongly condemn, however, Corellia's move to deny the Jedi Order to help us. Their mandate is to be the guardians of peace and justice in this galaxy, and we must take them up on their offer. Alderaan will support the Supreme Chancellor's proposal to seek the assistance of the Jedi Order. Regarding the matter of the secret location of the Galactic Senate, I strongly recommend that we table such discussion until a later date and grant the Supreme Chancellor sole authority in selecting this new location. It's not wise to discuss a location of security in this venue when there could be spies among us."

Judah rose as Alderaan's senator, Alcor, presented his vote on the matter. As he agreed with a possible evacuation, he disagreed with Judah on the matter of Jedi intervention. "Corellia seconds Alderaan's decision for the location of a new base to be determined by the Supreme Chancellor. Corellia's decision about the Jedi still stands."

"If the Gentleman from Corellia would be so kind as to state why he disagrees with the Chancellor's proposal for Jedi aide," Alcor said with somewhat of an irritated tone, "then perhaps more weight could be put behind it and he could convince others to support him. As of now, you've given us no reason to support your opinion on this matter."

Alderaan had just asked why Judah votes against Jedi support. "The Jedi are a sect of extreme religious individuals which should have no say in government actions. I believe the seperation of religion and state, and these Jedi should serve only as soldiers just like everyone else."

Gregory was still fiddling with his microphone when suddenly it switched on - largely by accident - and a screech of feedback shut everyone up - for only a brief moment, unfortunately. Still, Gregory felt determined to put his two cents in, and so he charged headlong into the fray, nearly falling out of his pod in the process.

'L-leave the Jedi out of this war. There is no point to bring keeers of the peace into a full scale conflict. In any case, the Jedi do not answer to the Senate, so such a proposal is moot anyway. And Chandrila opposes the movement of the Senate - I just got my cable holochannels plugged in.'

Judah turned as Chandrila's representative cast his vote, he was glad and angered by his words. "Voting against moving the Senate? That is proposterous! We are not safe here!"

'Oh, get off your high horse, Judah. We all know about your Twi'lek habits on the fourteenth floor. You won't get that if we move off-world,' Gregory stabbed back. The fired f the Senate had begun burning once more, and despite his shabby appearance, the Chandrilan senator was more sure of himself now than ever.

Judah was shocked by Chandrila's feedback. How did they know of him committing adultery with Twi'leks? "I have no idea what you were referring to in that statement." He lied. "But we are dooming ourselves here!"
